The words reverberated through the air like waves of demonic incantations, deafening and ceaseless, their throbbing pulses assaulting her eardrums as if an oncoming tide, relentless and powerful.
A frisson of fear finally found its way into the depths of her eyes.
Regardless of whether the demon before her was the fabled Mangonis of legend, the potent aura it exuded was unquestionably authentic! Even from hundreds of meters away, she could perceive its intimidating and daunting pressure.
Resembling a mountainous cranium, the creature’s head dripped with molten magma of eye-searing hue. It fell to the ground, met by the sweeping snow dust and released a cacophony of sizzling sounds.
After posing its question, the head began a slow rotation until finally, it gazed upon a petite figure — a woman.
The moment the demon detected her presence, the subterranean magma surged with heightened fervor. In the gloom of the Abyss, it seemed as though a series of pyrotechnics had burst into life.
Magma also flowed in the demon’s eyes, a fierce stare, brimming with rage, directed at her.
“Human…humans must die…kill you…I kill you…”
It was as though she was surrounded by a chorus of muttered chants, a dark symphony, where each murmur carried a profound malevolence. In the past, only she would utter threats to others; now, to be at the receiving end, was incredibly infuriating.
Yet, even with this rage, she knew she had to stay her hand.
She was acutely aware she could not best this demon. She didn’t even possess the courage to strike.
Furthermore, she had just lost a major advantage, invoked forbidden magic, and her body was wreathed in weariness. There was simply no possibility she could stand against such a formidable foe!
Her only course of action was to seize the opportunity to flee before it had completely emerged from the pit!
The petite woman, without hesitation, spun around and lithely dashed towards the trees, her destination far away.
Her movements incensed the partially emerged demon. It let out a roar, gripping the edge of the pit with its massive fingers, forcefully pulling itself out!
As it landed, the earth reverberated, and a fissure cracked open in the ground.
The fleeing woman risked a glance back and, upon seeing the full form of the demon, a shudder of fear ran through her. This beast was at least fifty meters tall, its body composed of stone-like matter, every portion of it trickling with luminescent red magma.
At its back was a cloak made of roaring flames that turned the falling snowflakes over Downfallen Forest into white mist. The visage of this titanic creature was as awe-inspiring as it was terrifying, a spectacle that would be etched into her memory, a symbol of fear and power from the depths of the Abyss.
The veil of melting snow hid its countenance, the only visible feature was the skeletal wings rising gradually from its back.
This seemed a hybrid of the Bone Wing Demon and Lava Giant Demon, yet its overwhelming presence surpassed them both!
“Could this creature possibly fly?! Even if it’s not an ancient demon, it’s certainly a unique breed of demon!” As the thought materialized in her mind, she felt an infinite number of molten sparks descending from the heavens!
These sparks appeared from thin air, encompassing her completely!
She was taken aback, seeing only one avenue for survival in such an air-tight encirclement. Without a moment’s hesitation, she bit her own tongue; the metallic taste of blood mingling with pain momentarily assuaged her exhaustion following the forbidden spell.
Subsequently, her body began to emanate a faint radiance, eventually transforming into nothingness!
Beneath the siege of the sparks, she forced herself to conjure the — Illusory Body! She hid her own body between the realms of existence and non-existence!
Although she successfully escaped the reach of the sparks, her mental state was utterly disordered! The successive use of forbidden spells had exceeded her limits.
Before she could breathe a sigh of relief from her narrow escape, the gigantic demon shattered the sound barrier with its speed, materializing before her in a blink.
Feeling the overwhelming presence in front of her, her once rosy face had turned deathly pale.
Her earlier conjectures were likely correct, the formidable demon standing before her was undoubtedly the one from legends!
——The Demon Lord who was once dethroned, Mangonis!
She was now filled with regret, berating herself for screaming earlier, which inevitably attracted such a formidable foe!
Mangonis extended his hand, a red vortex emerging within his palm, “Humans who disturb me, must pay the price!”
Accompanied by the ancient demonic language, a red mushroom cloud erupted from the ground.
Like a slowly expanding barrier, the flash of fire illuminated the entirety of Downfallen Forest. After the obliteration, within dozens of miles, everything was turned into nothingness, only a churning pool of molten lava remained…
…
The transformation of Downfallen Forest had also startled Watchtower Fortress.
Numerous people looked up towards the distant Watchtower Forest. Even Angel, at this moment, stepped out, ascending to the pinnacle of the high tower, gazing towards the snow-obscured dark territory from afar.
In that instant, all was shrouded in obscurity, with only the eerie echo of the wind’s lament and a fluctuation of cryptic energy piercing the silence. The perturbing herald of impending chaos relentlessly pounded against the hearts of every soul nestled within the fortress.
An apparition materialized above the head of Angel.
Sanders, holding a short staff in one hand and gently pressing a black gentleman’s hat with the other, descended from the ether, alighting with a grace that belied the gravity of the situation, at Angel’s side.
“What transpired, mentor?” Angel was clueless about the unfolding events. A restless inkling had stirred him from his research, guiding him to the pinnacle of the tower, where he noticed he wasn’t alone. The edifices of iron were crowded with individuals, all their gazes fixed on Downfallen Forest in the distance.
Clearly, the anxiety was a shared sentiment.
“The specifics are still uncertain,” Sanders responded. He had previously attempted to sense the situation in Downfallen Forest, but the expansive swath of verdant chaos couldn’t be comprehended in a fleeting moment. However, as he absorbed the riotous energy of the blaze, a conjecture formed: “Perhaps, a formidable adversary has made its presence known.”
“A formidable adversary? Could it be the Descendant of the Demon God that Lord Mengke has been waiting for?”
“No, but this aura is demonic. Moreover, it’s no run-of-the-mill demon. Even among the Great Demons, few possess such violent energy and a foreboding prelude that instills dread,” Sanders, while observing Downfallen Forest, silently murmured a name to himself: Demon Lord?
The Demon Lord, an absolute powerhouse who had conquered countless demons, ascending to the throne! Any Demon Lord possesses at least the wisdom of a third level true knowledge entity.
Furthermore, those Demon Lords of legend, comparable to Demon Gods, had transcended the realm of folklore and their strength had entered an unfathomable level.
What puzzled Sanders was the fact that the territories of Demon Lords lay in the inner layers, not near the superficial layers of the Abyss.
Could it be that this isn’t a Demon Lord? But this formidable force has already surpassed any Great Demon Sanders had previously encountered!
“What’s the conclusion, have you figured out what it is?” Canter materialized, appearing next to Sanders. Due to the abruptness of the situation, Canter hadn’t even donned his wizard’s hat adorned with purple flowers, revealing a head of silvery hair that the cold wind had whipped into disarray.
Sanders, his face grave, slowly shook his head.
Just as Canter was about to express further thoughts, two more individuals manifested on the modest tower.
The figure of Samantha, suffused with a transparency that seemed almost ethereal, stood beside Sineva, whose hair was as white as frost and eyes as fiery as molten lava.
Almost all the wizards of true knowledge in Watchtower Fortress had gathered at the lookout tower that Angel had casually chosen initially. Angel felt a tad uncomfortable, debating within his mind whether it would be wise to sidestep the assembly.
As Angel continued to mull over his decision, Sineva had already commenced speaking.
Initially, Angel had believed that Sineva and Samantha had come to seek Sanders. However, he was taken aback when they focused their attention on Canter.
“Lord Like the Night, could you possibly sense the status of Downfallen Forest?” asked Sineva.
Although Samantha remained silent, her gaze was unswervingly fixed on Canter.
After a moment’s hesitation, Canter said, “In the Abyss, where there is no day or night, to stimulate the bloodline of the night under such circumstances would be immensely exhausting.”
Before Sineva could respond to Canter’s comment, a sudden explosion of a fiery red light enveloped the distant Downfallen Forest. A vast mushroom cloud was shrouded in this incandescent sphere, transforming the distant darkness into dazzling daylight in an instant. Concurrently, countless flying snowflakes evaporated into a blanket of mist.
Although the crimson light had flashed only for a moment, its intensity was beyond everyone’s imagination!
Every wizard of true knowledge present had this intense light reflected in their eyes, silently wondering in their hearts: If it were me, could I withstand such a strike?
What a formidable power this was!
If it were to attack the fortress, it wouldn’t take more than three strikes to completely obliterate the fortress that had been painstakingly prepared over several years.
With this thought in mind, Sineva said without hesitation to Canter, “I can provide the materials for casting. If the fortress is attacked, it will be too late!”
Saying this, Sineva retrieved an oval black stone from her own space.
The black stone appeared like a container encompassing the universe itself, adorned with a galaxy of stars.
At this moment, Angel somewhat understood what Canter had meant by ‘immense consumption’. If the materials required for casting were of this sort, then indeed, it would be quite daunting.
——The stone was a Deep Starry Night Stone, a high-grade material, valued at least at ten thousand.
Canter, sensing the urgency of the circumstances, gave his consent to Sineva’s request without any hesitation. He took the Deep Starry Night Stone and promptly ground it into a fine powder, applying it to the center of his forehead.
In an instant, an extraordinary power radiated from Canter’s body.
As Angel looked at Canter in this moment, an inexplicable sense of solemnity overtook him. In the midst of his daze, he felt as though he was gazing upon a starry night sky.
After a spell, Canter’s eyes snapped open.
“The heart of Downfallen Forest, extending several tens of miles, has been completely transformed into a molten lava pool. The culprit behind this catastrophe is a creature that straddles the line between a Bone Wing Demon and Lava Giant Demon. Its power fluctuates greatly, potentially surpassing the peak of a second level true knowledge entity.” Canter paused, then continued, “This demon emerged from the depths of the ground. I’ve spotted a fissure underneath, and this crack leads directly to the Translayer passage.”
His words didn’t end there. Canter’s gaze lifted, his expression became severe.
“That nameless demon, it’s pursuing someone.”
“Who?”
Canter slowly uttered a name, “Dongola.”
Everyone was momentarily stunned, realizing Dongola had appeared in Downfallen Forest. A chilling thought struck them all: Dongola must have been tainted by the Harbinger of Doom’s aura!
With this revelation, they began to understand the sequence of events leading to the sudden appearance of this formidable demon.
Given the doom that Dongola was currently tainted with, it was inevitable that various disasters would follow. Furthermore, with the Harbinger of Doom’s potent aura of doom, even if Dongola did nothing at all, calamities such as meteorites could befall her.
After working out the cause and effect, Canter added, “Dongola can’t handle that demon and is currently leading it towards our fortress.”
