Chapter 1026 Fafnir <TOC> Chapter 1028 Hearing of Ice Valley Again

The gaze of Fafnir was as chilling as the northern wind, “What right do you possess that compels me to respond to you?”
Fafnir’s words echoed those uttered before his lapse into unconsciousness. However, Angel could distinctly discern that while Fafnir’s message was consistent, her tone was somewhat more amicable than before.
Perhaps, there was room for negotiation.
“Honorable Lady Fafnir, may I be bold enough to inquire as to what task must a humble being like myself perform in order for your grace to answer my query?” Angel asked with utmost respect.
Angel’s deferential demeanor appeared to satisfy Fafnir, who was no longer subjected to crude remarks and dismissive attitudes.
“Enlightening you wouldn’t be utterly off the table, but there is a favor I would require you to do for me.” As Fafnir spoke, a faint, inscrutable shadow crossed her eyes.
“What task may that be?” Angel asked cautiously, believing that if something was beyond Fafnir’s capability, it would likely be out of his reach as well.
Fafnir, seemingly perceiving Angel’s thoughts, offered a frosty smile: “I will guide you to a place. Your task will be to deliver a message for me.”
A simple task of delivering a message? On the surface, it didn’t seem particularly daunting. However, considering the caliber of beings Fafnir was likely acquainted with — significant figures of great power, it was clear that there must be a reason why Fafnir wouldn’t deliver the message herself. A reason potent enough to discourage, prohibit, or even deter her from delivering the message personally.
Perhaps it was fraught with danger, possibly due to restrictions, or a history of rejection. Generally, one of these three reasons could make Fafnir enlist an intermediary for communication.
These vague notions, in one sense or another, all hinted at a potential peril.
Angel’s thoughts raced rapidly. He intended to probe for the precise reason but was wary of violating any of Fafnir’s taboos. He decided to ask obliquely, “Presumably, there should be minimal risk in merely delivering a message, correct?”
“Risk is an inherent part of existence.” Fafnir replied sardonically, “Danger lurks on every journey with the potential for demonic encounters, calamities may strike during respite, and even meals can bring misfortune. All these are forms of danger. Furthermore, an insignificant human sitting before me is also under considerable risk of losing his life.”
Fafnir’s words were now laced with an undisguised threat.
Fafnir’s decision not to terminate Angel’s life and even granting him an opportunity was already an act of extraordinary grace. However, this man dared to hesitate? This audacious act of indecisiveness was truly unexpected.
Angel sensed a dangerous aura permeating Fafnir’s countenance, and in a moment of intense realization, he acknowledged that the woman before him was far from ordinary. The mere ripple of her casual air could strike him down in countless iterations!
With this insight, Angel mustered a laugh and swiftly shifted the conversation, “Of course, no issue there. May I know what message you wish me to convey?”
Fafnir, upon Angel’s agreement, coldly retorted, “Do not perceive this as intimidation on my part. If you wish to lift the curse upon him, you, too, will need to meet Odeklaes.”
Odeklaes? Angel registered an unfamiliar name, presumably the intended recipient of Fafnir’s message.
“To eliminate the curse befallen by the Harbinger of Doom, there are myriad ways. For instance, seeking the harbinger itself could solve your dilemma, but dare you approach it? Moreover, transcendent entities such as Demon Gods could dispel the curse, yet dare you encounter them?”
Fafnir, knowing well the futility of these options for herself, considered Angel even less likely to dare such feats.
“Hence, there are only a limited number of solutions to dismiss the curse that you could realistically pursue. The simplest among these would be to seek a safe haven and let time erode it away.”
While time could potentially erode all curses, where in the Abyss could one find a place of safety?
Moreover, returning to the Wizarding World from the Abyss was an impracticality. Consider Sanders: he made two attempts at using Fragment Ephemera to escape via the interplanar passage, only to fail. Even now, his fate hangs in the balance.
Thus, once entrapped in a curse, entering the interplanar passage could prove perilous to the extreme.
This solution was evidently impractical.
“All in all, the residual aura left by the Harbinger of Doom is, in essence, a form of disguised curse. However, this incorporates certain aspects of oscillation rates,” explained Fafnir.
A brief elucidation of oscillation rates translated into the Wizarding World’s vernacular could mean a large-scale collapse of positive variables and the amalgamation of negative ones, bringing it into the realm of esoteric prophecy theory.
“Although it is a curse, common methods cannot lift the doom. However, I am aware of a faction within your human realms that could accomplish this. These are those on the other side of the Phase Plane, known to you as the Misfortune Wizards,” Fafnir paused, the glowing embers from the firepit reflecting in her eyes. As though through the flickering flames, she seemed to recall memories from many years past.
Misfortune Wizards — Angel’s gaze grew distant as he recalled seeing this name somewhere.
The Misfortune Wizard, Angel, had a slightly bewildered look in his eyes; he seemed to recall encountering this name somewhere before.
“There is a unique type of wizard in the Western Lands, known as the Misfortune Wizard. It seems to be an ancient school of the Curse Wizards, although our Southern Region has no related heritage, it’s the Western Lands that have preserved some records. When facing such wizards, unless you are protected by a prophecy faith, it is difficult to confront them directly. They are like shadows, omnipresent around you, but you can never trace where their attacks originate from.” ——Fivenda’s —Against Travel to this Space—.
As Angel recollected this passage, a hint of peculiarity tinted his expression.
The Wizarding World is indeed vast, divided into four territories. Among them, the Southern Region is one of the four, and the Western Lands is also part of the quartet. Although they belong to the same Wizarding World, there is an immeasurable spatio-temporal distance between the territories.
The void between two territories is an insurmountable chasm, even separated by countless worlds.
Hence, reaching the Western Lands is not a straightforward task for inhabitants of the Southern Region.
However, what does Fafnir mean by “Phase Plane”? Judging by her tone, does the existence of the Misfortune Wizard still persist on the other side of the “Phase Plane”?
When Angel voiced his doubts, a hint of mockery flashed in Fafnir’s eyes: “Asking such foolish questions, you are truly a human from the Wasteland Plane.”
The Wasteland Plane, another unfamiliar term.
Fafnir might be sarcastic, but she did not refuse to answer. Instead, she leisurely divulged some information she knew.
As Fafnir explained, a spark ignited in Angel’s eyes.
The Phase Plane and the Wasteland Plane are essentially in a relationship of containment and being contained. The Phase Plane is a broader set, within which the Wasteland Plane is included.
The Abyss is a world abundant with magic, its vastness no less than the Wizarding World.
While the Wizarding World is divided into four territories, the Abyss is split into seven Phase Planes. Their current location is within the Wasteland Plane.
The Southern Region of the Wizarding World is closest to the “Wasteland Plane” of the Abyss, hence when they enter the Abyss, they usually end up in the Wasteland Plane.
As for the Misfortune Wizard that Fafnir mentioned, they sporadically appear in another Plane Aspect of the Phase Plane, which is known as the “Greed Plane.”
Should it be thus segmented, the Greed Plane is likely to be closer to the Wizarding World of the Western Lands.
Apart from these two Plane Aspects, there are several other aspects within the Phase Plane, and it is estimated that the Wizarding World of the Eastern Realm and the Northern Territory would also have similar Abyss Plane Aspects.
A surprise and excitement flicker in Angel’s gaze!
This is the first time he’s heard of this secret news. Before he came to the Abyss, he had looked up a lot of Abyss-related information, and there was no mention of the so-called seven aspects of the Phase Plane, not even Sanders had mentioned the related content.
Either others don’t know, or those who know all keep their lips sealed.
“Is it far to go to the other side of the Phase Plane?” Angel asked with some impatience.
In the Wizarding World, it is not easy to go to the other three regions. Moreover, the path from the Southern Region’s Wizarding World to the Source World has been severed, but the other three regions have not yet been severed. If he wants to go to the Source World in the future, he must go to the other three regions.
If he could use the Abyss as a relay station to reach the Greed Plane, then travel through the Greed Plane to reach the Western Lands, it might be much closer to the Source World by then.
Fafnir seems not to understand why Angel is so excited. She responds coldly, “Not far, as long as you can pass through the Phase Gateway, you can reach the other Phase Planes.”
Pausing for a moment, Fafnir continues, “However, the weakest guardians of the Phase Gateway are Demon Lords. Are you sure you want to go?”
Demon Lords are beings that even His Excellency Mengke would not dare to provoke. Some Demon Lords are even as powerful as ordinary Demon Gods.
Mangonis, who once slumbered in Downfallen Forest, was a Demon Lord who had fallen from his throne. At that time, all the wizards of true knowledge in Watchtower Fortress were dispatched, but they did not harm him. And Mangonis was not even a true Demon Lord, which provides a glimpse of the situation.
Angel quietly set aside the thoughts in his heart: future matters will be dealt with in the future, and he might not even have the chance to go to the Source World…
Fafnir, seemingly unaware of Angel’s ebb and flow of emotions, continued, “Since this path of the Misfortune Wizard is still inaccessible, the only remaining avenue to relieve the doom curse on it is one last route.”
“Seek out Odeklaes.”
Fafnir, after a convoluted and verbose journey, eventually looped back to the subject of Odeklaes.
Speaking of Odeklaes, Angel could distinctly perceive a shift in Fafnir’s voice from its typical dispassion to a tone laced with complex emotions.
“Odeklaes and I share a lineage, and we were once intimately connected. However, due to some trifling issues, we have not seen each other for many years.” Fafnir paused, “He is well-versed in curses, and he too has been tainted by doom. Seek him out, and perhaps he may lift the ill-fortune that has befallen it.”
Fafnir spoke with succinct clarity, yet Angel could detect an undercurrent of undulating emotions within her words.
That Odeklaes and Fafnir were kin implied that he too was an Abyss Dragon, and undoubtedly his power was of the sort that could obliterate Angel in an instant.
To confront such an Abyss Dragon, Angel was not optimistic that he would be greeted with cordiality upon his arrival. He suspected that he need not even be in sight for the creature to expel a mere breath in his direction, snuffing out his life mid-journey.
