Chapter 1118 Response <TOC> Chapter 1120 City Firefly’s Night Whisper

Samantha arched an eyebrow, “If I remember correctly, there was a demon who had awakened, the Panaces Succubus that Sineva had encountered. I believe it awoke in your shop, was it an effect of this ‘Voyage of Experience’?”
Angel responded with silence.
“I heard that the ‘Voyage of Experience’ is an illusion. Considering it is an illusion… let me think, what is Phantom Island best known for…?” Samantha’s eyes sparkled with an insinuating jest, “So, does it have something to do with you?”
A slight twitch at the corner of Angel’s mouth was his only response. The awakened state of Hai had nearly killed Sineva on the spot. If he admitted to it, wouldn’t it imply that he was the root of all these troubles? Hence, he was determined to deny any connection.
Angel’s evasive maneuvers failed to provide a satisfactory response, causing Samantha’s frustration to bubble.
But on the other hand, Canter, with his eyes narrowed in contemplation, was reminded of the “Rhythm of the Ocean” that Sanders had mentioned earlier. This was something that Angel had crafted on his own… and observing Angel’s now evasive demeanor, Canter deduced with certainty that this so-called ‘Voyage of Experience’ was undoubtedly of Angel’s creation. Now, Canter began to understand why Sanders always bore a gritted-teeth expression whenever Angel was mentioned.
Though Canter had pieced together the mystery, he could also discern Angel’s current predicament and mood. If he were to admit it now, would he not be endorsing his part in aiding the demons? Thus, Canter, having no intention of exposing the truth, cheerfully chimed in, “This ‘Voyage of Experience,’ capable of awakening demons — how could Angel have possibly orchestrated this with his abilities? Perhaps there is a higher power assisting behind the scenes.”
Having said this, Canter swiftly shifted the conversation without waiting for Samantha’s response, “Our primary reason for coming here isn’t the ‘Voyage of Experience’. This matter isn’t pressing and can be inquired into anytime. Our current priority should be Olucia, as well as this… Lord Night.”
Canter shot Angel a knowing look, to which Angel responded understandingly, “About Olucia, indeed, I do not have much information. I am only aware that she is a descendant of the Flameless Lord, accompanied by a Servant of Fire and a Young Fire Demon. Sineva had met the Servant of Fire earlier, and as for the Young Fire Demon…”
As Angel reflected upon the visage of the fiery orb within his mind, a wry smile tugged at the corners of his mouth. “The Young Fire Demon poses no threat to you all. It’s but a minor devil,” he reassured them.
Samantha’s brow knitted together. She was well-informed about the Fire Demon and its subordinate, right down to their names, courtesy of the prior intel gleaned by Morgheim.
Samantha interjected, cutting through Angel’s reassurances. “Are you aware of why Olucia came to La Sutherland?”
Caught off guard by this question, Angel’s expression flickered with a hint of hesitancy.
Cognizant of the minute change in Angel’s demeanor, Samantha probed, “You know, don’t you?”
Shaking his head, Angel responded, “I have no such knowledge. Olucia certainly wouldn’t disclose that to me.”
“Then what’s behind your hesitation?”
Angel sunk into contemplation. In truth, he had formulated his own conjectures as to why Olucia visited La Sutherland. He even harbored a certain conviction that his guesses were accurate. However, he was wrestling with whether or not to voice his thoughts.
After all, the birth of the Source Fire was closely tied to Lord Night, who had indeed provided him aid. Although these actions were influenced by “Feng,” the indisputable fact remained that it was Lord Night who had lent a helping hand without asking for anything in return.
Would his revelation adversely impact Lord Night?
While Angel was grappling with these thoughts, Mengke, from his lofty position upon the floating iceberg, turned to Sanders, remarking, “Angel seems to be privy to more information than I initially estimated.”
Although Angel hadn’t explicitly confirmed it, his demeanor suggested he was likely privy to some insider information.
The others cast peculiar glances amongst themselves, all equally taken aback. It was astonishing that an apprentice knew of matters even the venerable Mengke had not uncovered. From where could he have possibly unearthed such information?
Moreover, when Samantha queried him regarding his ownership of the shop, Angel’s response was rather vague. Could he indeed be the shop owner? And if so, is he also the puppet master behind this Voyage of Experience and the awakening of the demons?
Puzzlement pervaded the minds of all present; what role, exactly, did Angel play in this grand spectacle?
“How he became privy to this information, I cannot fathom. However, do remember that Angel is accompanied by a formidable entity, a mystery still… It could well be that the Demon God Descendant visited their shop in search of this entity, not Angel,” Sanders highlighted a figure whom all had been overlooking. Although his intent was to divert attention, his point was valid nonetheless. Who was this mighty entity, and what relation did they share with Angel?
How could Angel, a mere human, secure his footing in La Sutherland? Was it the doing of this formidable entity? And what was their ultimate purpose?
However, even if they harbored such suspicions, none had the audacity to confront Angel. After all, this formidable entity was within earshot of their conversation.
After an awkward silence, Angel’s voice finally echoed from the communicator.
“The purpose of Olucia’s visit to La Sutherland is likely related to Lord Night’s advancement,” stated Angel, a note of reservation in his tone.
Samantha could decipher that Angel’s words carried a certain level of authenticity, albeit a somewhat veiled one. “Lord Night you mentioned, are you familiar with them?” she queried.
Angel simply replied, “We’ve met.”
“Though your ways are different from your mentor, your knack for hedging in your words is indeed strikingly similar,” Samantha voiced out with a trace of sarcasm. The claim of ‘We’ve met’ was as informative as no answer at all. The extent of familiarity was entirely under Angel’s control. If the topic was deemed permissible, then the familiarity could be amplified. But if the topic was too sensitive, then the acquaintance was nothing more than fleeting.
Caught in an awkward chuckle, Angel chose not to retort to Samantha’s sarcasm. He knew that even if he opted for silence, Samantha wouldn’t resort to physical aggression at this juncture.
Suppressing her urge to lash out, Samantha, wearing a stern expression, asked, “Then, in your opinion, would this Lord Night retaliate against us if we confront Olucia?”
This query was indeed the burning question in Mengke’s mind as well. He was already privy to most of the information that Angel had revealed, and even had some understanding of Olucia. However, the sudden emergence of the “Lord Night,” shrouded in profound mystery, not only sought out by Olucia from the inner layer, but also being the birth of the current wall of fire patterns blockading the void, intrigued him.
If Lord Night decided to take action against them, they would have to recalibrate many of their plans, escalating the risks involved significantly.
Angel furrowed his brows, “That’s a subjective question. I’m not Lord Night, so I can’t fathom his intentions.”
“Then, based on your perspective, how do you think he would choose?”
Angel pondered if he should continue playing the avoidance game, dancing around the question like an intricate dance in a martial arts duel. But observing Samantha’s stormy countenance, heavy with impending rain, he decided to take a leap, albeit a cautious one. “Lord Night is a half-demon,” he ventured, “He has coexisted with humans before. From my perspective, he harbors no particular affection or repugnance for either humans or demons. If you do not infringe upon the Hunting Museum, I suspect he may not react vehemently.”
After a pause, he added, “Of course, this is simply my subjective speculation, and I could be gravely mistaken.”
His words struck like thunder, leaving the air electrified in their wake.
The expressions of virtually all the wizards there betrayed utter bafflement. In their minds, half-demons at best could measure up to ordinary wizards, and there had never been an instance where a half-demon ascended to the rank of a Demon Lord.
Even the notion of a half-demon reaching Sanders’ level was more of a legendary tale. But now, this soon-to-be-crowned lord was a half-demon?!
If he were a full-fledged demon, he would naturally be at odds with humans. But half-demons were different; many had even collaborated with humans, like in the case of some surface settlements such as Immortal Street, which harbored half-demons. In the past, the Tomb Knights of the Immortal Brigade were also composed of half-demons.
Atop the floating iceberg, despite the Frost Moon Alliance serving as the principal faction, there were many members from different wizard organizations. Upon hearing this news, their minds whirred into action.
Judging from Angel’s tone, this Lord Night doesn’t appear to harbor an aversion towards humans. If they could foster a rapport with this Lord, it wouldn’t just be personally advantageous, but could also significantly bolster their wizard camp’s foothold within the Abyss.
Consider this: the resources within the Abyss far surpass those in the Wizarding World, a place devoid of the weak. Under the sweeping influence of abundant energy, numerous powerful resources come into being. Human forces within the Abyss are dominated by Frost Moon Alliance, and if they could use this opportunity to forge their own channels, it would indeed make for a sustainable long-term strategy!
As this notion came to them, everyone’s gazes fell upon Sanders, brimming with envy.
Angel was of the Phantom Island lineage, and he was clearly already a step ahead of them!
In the face of envious stares, Sanders wasn’t as optimistic in his heart. He understood all too well that those who reached a certain pinnacle of power could never be swayed by the will of others. Take Mengke or Nereus, for example. Apart from their surprise at his half-demon identity, they hadn’t considered anything else.
For beings of this caliber, to maintain a cordial encounter without conflict was a feat in itself, let alone seeking deeper relationships.
However, after this incident, Sanders acquired a more profound understanding of the extent to which Angel could stir things up.
Upon hearing Angel’s words, Samantha was also taken aback by the half-demon status. Yet, what surprised her more was that Angel’s tone subtly hinted that his understanding of this Lord Night was far deeper than they had imagined.
“It appears you and this Lord are quite well-acquainted,” Samantha suggested with a meaningful tone.
Angel’s response remained as nebulous as ever: “We’ve met a few times.”
“Very well, I believe Lord Mengke should have drawn some conclusions by now,” Samantha stated, cognizant that Angel was likely not laying all his cards on the table. Yet, the intel at hand seemed to somewhat diminish the perceived threat of Lord Night.
However, one could not take Angel’s words at face value.
Perhaps Lord Night harbors no explicit favor or animosity towards mankind, yet they were in the dark as to whether any deeper connections existed between Olucia and Lord Night. Given Olucia had journeyed to La Sutherland primarily for Lord Night, their relationship might have evolved or advanced unbeknownst to them.
This was a variable they needed to take into consideration.
While the situation may be complicated, like a tangled skein of wool, wizards are known to unravel the most complex conundrums provided they have the necessary information. Their previous conjectures were in disarray due to the absence of a reliable source of information, a gap that Angel had now filled.
Yet, Samantha couldn’t shake the inkling that all these convenient coincidences suggested that Angel may be playing a role with deeper implications yet to be unearthed.
