Before Sanders could reply, there was a sudden knock at the door.
Angel cast a glance at Sanders and murmured softly, “Come in.”
Two fully armed individuals entered. One was clad in armor, while the other donned a full-bodied white bear costume.
It was none other than Leon and White Bear, Hobson.
Upon entering, Leon’s face, initially stern and worried, softened instantaneously upon seeing Angel sitting by the bed. “You’re awake? That’s wonderful; I’m just glad you’re alright.”
Leon intended to move closer, but a white figure beside him got to Angel first, asking, “Angel, the person you spoke of… are you referring to Lady Eureka?”
“My brother just woke up,” Leon said with a frown, his voice tinged with annoyance. “Can’t your questions wait?”
Angel waved dismissively at Leon and shifted his gaze to White Bear by his side. White Bear seemed fraught with anxiety and exhaustion; dark circles under his eyes suggesting he hadn’t slept all night. There was a pleading look in his eyes, yet it was mixed with caution.
“You look more like a panda now,” Angel quipped with a chuckle.
Hobson paused, then, realizing Angel was referring to his dark circles, he gave a wry smile. “It seems you’re recovering well, enough to joke at my expense.”
Angel shrugged nonchalantly, “The question you asked — don’t you already know the answer deep down?”
Hobson gulped, disbelief still evident in his eyes, “Is it really her?”
Angel continued, “You’ve been exposed to the Wizarding World even before me. You ought to be more familiar with her exploits than I am.”
Hobson fell silent. Indeed, the moment he saw Eureka, memories of her past deeds resurfaced in his mind.
‘Tainted Blood Shadow Dagger’ Eureka was, back in the day, a rising star. Becoming a formal witch at such a tender age, she had a brilliant future laid out before her. Yet, at the peak of her momentum, she dared to provoke the brutal King Guman and even managed to steal his most treasured artifact——Scarlet Sovereignty.
For a moment, the entire Wizarding World was abuzz with disbelief.
Leaving aside the question of how she managed to purloin the Scarlet Sovereignty, her audacity alone was enough to astonish many. It’s essential to note that the Kingdom of Guman isn’t a domain of mere mortals. King Guman isn’t an ordinary king either. While his power might not rival the elites of the Southern Region, he still belongs to the crème de la crème.
Why would Eureka provoke such an extraordinary king?
Later, whispers of hidden tales began to emerge. People started to suspect that Eureka’s actions were driven by a thirst for vengeance. As for the specifics of this grudge, no one was sure. However, rumors suggested it was due to King Guman decimating Eureka’s family in one fell swoop.
If this was indeed true, a realization dawned upon Bear. Could it be that Eureka had entangled herself with King Guman because of his aunt’s family?
Could it then mean that Eureka was truly his relative?
“If she were truly my relative, why hasn’t she sought me out?” Bear whispered to himself.
“Given her current status as a wanted fugitive by King Guman, do you think it’s wise for her to approach you?” Angel remarked with a sigh.
White Bear seemed dazed, muttering repeatedly, “I must see her. I need to find out the truth from her…”
Having said that, White Bear abruptly stood up and left. Angel tried to stop him, but he was a step too late. Left with no other choice, Angel got up, intending to chase after him.
Bringing White Bear back was indeed meant to stimulate Eureka, but given her current predicament, wouldn’t his visit be a death wish?
“You need not worry about him; he won’t find Eureka,” Sanders interjected as he saw Angel ready to pursue.
Angel turned to Sanders, waiting for an explanation.
“After escaping last night, Eureka was taken by Suis back to the Exile Space. She’s not in our world now; he won’t find her,” Sanders stated calmly.
When Angel heard the news, a weight seemed to lift from his chest. Suddenly, as if struck by a realization, he murmured under his breath, “Last night? Has an entire night already passed?”
Angel’s gaze shifted towards the window. Though the curtains were drawn, a faint light pierced through the small gap at the bottom.
Leon, noting Angel’s focused expression, approached the window and drew back the curtains.
Brilliant sunlight streamed in, banishing the room’s shadows. Dust motes danced in the shafts of light, creating a luminous haze. It felt as though not just the murkiness of the night was swept away, but also as if Angel had been lifted from some dark abyss, finding his way back to reality.
“So, a night truly has passed. Was everything that transpired just a dream?” Angel pondered silently.
After a moment, Angel lifted his gaze to Sanders and queried, “Mentor, did you mention that Eureka escaped last night? Was it you who scared her away?”
Sanders simply shook his head, offering no verbal response.
Leon, stepping forward, chimed in, “It’s odd. Right after you suddenly passed out, Lady Eureka fled. I can’t fathom why. Perhaps she came to her senses, realized she had harmed you, and was overcome with guilt?”
Drawing closer with a concerned expression, Leon asked, “Are you sure you’re alright now?”
“I’m fine,” Angel replied, sensing nothing wrong with his body. He then steered the conversation back to Eureka, “I lost consciousness, and Eureka ran away? What exactly happened?”
Leon shook his head, equally perplexed, but proceeded to narrate the events as they unfolded.
The situation at the time wasn’t too complicated: Angel, affected by the Scarlet Sovereignty, plummeted from the sky into unconsciousness. Soon after, Sanders entered the range of the scarlet aura, and in the next moment, Eureka took off.
From this account, it seemed as if she was frightened off by Sanders? Angel looked questioningly at Sanders.
“You’re overlooking someone,” Sanders suddenly remarked, “When I entered the Sealing Circle, another person followed.”
Angel paused, processing this, “White Bear?”
Sanders nodded in confirmation. The previous night, after witnessing Angel being struck by the Mysterious Object, he’d been taken aback and had intended to rush in to help. But as soon as he entered, Eureka turned on her heels and fled.
Sanders was certain of one thing: while Eureka had noticed the commotion, her attention hadn’t been on him, but rather on White Bear.
Considering the identity of White Bear, the answer is crystal clear.
Indeed, White Bear had left his mark on Eureka.
“It seems bringing White Bear was the right decision,” Angel remarked with a grin. He hadn’t expected that the one to finally intimidate Eureka would be White Bear. Had he known, he would’ve introduced him right from the start, sparing himself that confrontation.
“This White Bear you’re speaking of, the one dressed so distinctively, who is he?” Leon, overhearing their conversation and clearly lost, inquired with genuine curiosity.
Angel replied, “You entered with White Bear. I assumed you two were acquainted.”
Leon shook his head, “After you were taken to your room yesterday, I waited outside. This… White Bear was nearby, but he remained silent throughout the night. When I knocked earlier, he came in with me. I presumed, seeing as you both arrived together, that there was no need to intervene.”
“White Bear’s real name is Hobson Silian. Eureka used to introduce herself to outsiders as Lady Silian,” Angel paused for emphasis, “So, it’s likely that White Bear and Eureka share some familial bond.”
Leon seemed taken aback by this revelation. After digesting the information, he shared, “I remember seeing Lady Eureka often gazing in a particular direction, her expression tinged with sadness. I had thought she was reminiscing about Lord Suis. Even after my mentor returned, she would occasionally get lost in that distant stare. According to my mentor, Lady Eureka was mourning a lost relative.”
“So, it seems that White Bear was the one she was yearning for?”
Angel recalled the first time he met Eureka. When she found out he was from the Savage Grottoes, her eyes had conveyed a myriad of emotions, and she had been at a loss for words. Later, she merely mentioned that she had an old friend from the Savage Grottoes.
In retrospect, she must have been referring to White Bear.
Perhaps the reason Eureka so readily accepted Angel’s presence, even before she learned he was an alchemist, was influenced by this very connection.
After reflecting on this for a while, as Leon was gathering his thoughts, Angel asked, “By the way, what happened to Eureka? How did she lose her sanity?”
When Angel broached the topic, Leon’s demeanor shifted instantaneously, gravitating to solemnity: “The scarlet radiance, it’s wrought by that scarlet beam.”
“Scarlet radiance?” Angel’s brows knitted, his gaze seeking clarity in Leon’s eyes.
“Last night, you seemed to have the upper hand, yet in a fleeting moment, you succumbed to unconsciousness. What did you perceive then?” Leon probed.
Caught off guard, Angel’s reflexes prompted a response: “The scarlet radiance.”
Leon’s countenance unfurled a knowing look, affirming, “Indeed, it is that very scarlet beam. Lady Eureka typically resides among the heavenly cloud isles. Yet, about a fortnight ago, she unexpectedly descended to the stilt house. Come dawn, the stilt house was awash in that blazing scarlet hue. Since then, Lady Eureka has been consumed by madness.”
“Yesterday, I beheld you too, swallowed by that scarlet beam. In that instant, I feared you might be ensnared like Lady Eureka. Fortuitously… you remain unscathed.”
A crease of worry shadowed Angel’s forehead, “Was it this scarlet light that ensnared Eureka? Given that the radiance emanates from the Scarlet Sovereignty, might it be… that the very architect of this chaos is the Scarlet Sovereignty?”
Angel’s gaze darted to Sanders, yearning for insights from him.
Lost in rumination, Sanders took a prolonged moment before addressing Angel: “You once mentioned, long ago, witnesses observed changes in Eureka. Implying, she was influenced much earlier. The Scarlet Sovereignty, ever-present by Eureka’s side, might indeed be the epicenter of all this.”
Angel responded, “If we discern the purpose of the Scarlet Sovereignty, we might ascertain whether it’s the root of the malevolence. Yet, till now, the specific effects of the Scarlet Sovereignty elude me.”
Sanders intoned, “The Scarlet Sovereignty is the crowning jewel of the Guman Kingdom. The King of Guman merely acknowledged its existence but never revealed its purpose.”
“However,” Sanders continued, locking eyes with Angel, “having witnessed you ensnared by that Scarlet Glow last night, I’ve some speculations. Do share your ordeal.”
For a moment, Angel seemed lost, struggling to fathom Sanders’ query until Sanders uttered the words——
“Plunge into the Abyss.”
