A peculiar atmosphere enveloped the room, and it came as a surprise to everyone that the people Jon had brought them to meet was none other than the two masters of Pat Manor.
Equally unexpected was the tale the Viscount shared, wearing an expression heavy with remorse that recounted a chilling narrative.
“We… we are all deceased?” The words came shakily from shepherd Franz.
With an inscrutable depth of sorrow in his eyes, Leon replied, “Only your physical forms have perished, your spirits, however, remain tethered here.”
The realization of their mortality seemed lost on everyone, with many still reeling in disbelief. “If we’ve truly passed, why do I feel nothing?” They murmured, lost in thought.
It was the mute servant, Yorkshire, who had an epiphany. No wonder he could suddenly speak — it dawned on him that he was no longer among the living.
“And… what of the Viscount and young master? And you, Mr. Jon? Are you here because of some unfortunate fate as well?”
After a brief moment of shock, Head Maid Mana was quick to express her concerns about her masters, adding to Leon’s burgeoning guilt.
Jon, with a hint of amusement, said, “As for me, I’m somewhere between life and death, not much different from you all. As for Leon and Angel, they’ve transcended the mundane and found alternative ways to be here.”
A servant then inquired, “Is this the realm we find ourselves in after death?”
“This isn’t the hell or ghostly wasteland of your imagination. This is a distinct realm, and life here won’t be radically different from what you’ve known,” Angel assured.
Angel’s words left many feeling at a loss.
They were still grappling with the revelation of their “deceased” status. Now, they had to adapt to a new way of life. For many servants content with the status quo, this was a seismic shift. Some even felt daunted.
Only those with strong resolve, like Head Maid Mana or Knight Swatch, found this a bit easier to digest.
Observing the palpable atmosphere of despair around, Angel gently said, “Rest assured, Freud will grant you time to adapt. After all, embracing a new way of life can be refreshing.”
Whether Angel’s words would offer comfort was uncertain, but the mood at that moment was too heavy for Leon.
“Angel, is there a way to help them gradually accept this change?” pleaded Leon, a tone of desperation unheard of from him before.
After all, these servants’ misfortune was wrought by the lover of Leon’s mentor.
Furthermore, as the actual leader of Grud Town, they were his people. Failing to safeguard their lives already weighed heavily on Leon. Seeing their bewilderment made his heartache even more profound.
Feeling helpless to alter their fate, his hopes rested on Angel.
After a brief contemplation, Angel, not wanting to deny his elder brother’s request, nodded, “Alright, I’ll think of a solution.”
With that, Angel transitioned back from the Wilderness of Dreams to reality.
Sanders stood pensively beside the Demeter, silently observing the conversation between Suis and Rolando.
Although Rolando had dispelled the mysterious power from those servants, the outcome was almost as predicted, they were all deceased… Suis knew the servants were mere mortals while Eureka was a formal wizard; their realms were incomparable. Yet, to be on the safe side, he repeatedly confirmed with Rolando.
Just then, Sanders received a message from Angel.
Without uttering a word to Suis, Sanders immediately soared away from the Cloud Soil, landing on the terrace at the top of the castle.
At that moment, Angel stood silently at the edge of the terrace, overlooking a secluded and somewhat dilapidated estate.
“Have those servants already entered the Wilderness of Dreams?” Sanders, alighting beside Angel, whispered.
Angel nodded, “Yes, they safely reached the Wilderness of Dreams. I’ve also taken care of their mortal remains.”
Sanders, nonchalantly acknowledging with a nod, refrained from lingering on the topic. Instead, he broached the main subject, “You mentioned earlier that you intend to use the Dream Conch?”
Angel affirmed, “I wish to replicate the entire Pat Manor to Initial Heart City.”
The intention was to allow those servants to first reside in familiar surroundings, and then gradually adapt to the elements of Initial Heart City. This was the only solution Angel could think of.
“For the sake of those servants?” Sanders almost immediately grasped Angel’s intent.
“And for my own peace of mind,” Angel added.
Sanders contemplated for a brief moment, “Understood. I’ll ask Suis and White Bear to temporarily leave the estate.”
Without further ado, Sanders turned and departed.
Angel could have withheld the matter from Sanders, but with Suis still present and his use of the Dream Conch to pull such a vast portion of Pat Manor into a dream, suspicions might arise. Hence, he relayed this information to Sanders.
Sanders grasped Angel’s intentions. While he deemed such extents unnecessary for mere servants, seeing Angel’s resolute decision, he had no inclination to hinder him.
Upon Sanders’ return to the Cloud Soil, citing the susceptibility of the external world to prophecy spells as his reason, he instructed Suis to temporarily visit the Gravity Garden with Rolando. Unsuspecting, Suis complied. Moreover, given Rolando’s mission to nullify Eureka’s mysterious power, White Bear was naturally concerned. Ultimately, Sanders effortlessly diverted both Suis and White Bear away from Pat Manor.
Once he sensed their departure, Angel immediately activated the Dream Conch, plunging Pat Manor into the Wilderness of Dreams.
The location of Pat Manor within the dream was situated on the periphery of the eastern district of Initial Heart City. The area, relatively unpopulated, had previously been cleared out in agreement with Freud. Thus, when the massive estate appeared out of thin air, it drew scant attention.
Yet, given the mansion’s sprawling size, it was only a matter of time before it drew more inquisitive eyes.
Upon returning to the Wilderness of Dreams, Angel directed everyone to follow him towards the eastern district.
Throughout their journey, Angel sensed that after some time for recuperation, the emotions of the servants gradually stabilized. Yet, many still held a vacant look in their eyes, like Ollie walking beside him.
Maid Ollie closely shadowed Angel, pacing herself as if she was still his personal maid, synchronizing her steps as before.
Although her stride remained unchanged, her gaze carried a distant look. “Young Master, can we truly never return?” After hesitating for a while, Ollie finally voiced her concern.
“Perhaps there’s a chance, but it may be slim,” Angel whispered in reply.
After obtaining the answer, a shadow of melancholy swept over Ollie’s gaze.
“What weighs on your heart?” To Angel’s perception, Ollie was of a tender age. Moreover, from what he gathered, she scarcely ventured beyond Grud Town. A singular exception was an expedition to Watford, escorted by Knight Swatch due to a procurement issue, marking the furthest she ever traveled.
Given Ollie’s youth and her insulated life within a tight-knit circle, Angel believed she’d be more receptive to the broader world. He puzzled, then, why she seemed more despondent than others?
His musing revealed a bias in Angel’s perspective. From his vantage point, he naturally relished and eagerly anticipated exploring the vast world.
But for a reserved and sensitive young woman like Ollie, who scarcely set foot beyond her home, what she dreaded most was change. Particularly, any disruption of the familiar circles she was accustomed to. In her view, Pat Manor and Grud Town represented her comfort zones, and venturing out threatened her with unease.
Her shadow-like trailing beside Angel could be understood as seeking solace. Only beside someone familiar did she feel a semblance of security.
“Though Head Maid Mana and Knight Swatch are here, I dearly miss my other friends. The mere thought of possibly never seeing them again terrifies me,” she shared.
After a contemplative pause, Angel offered, “Perhaps, in time, they too might come here.”
“No, no! I didn’t mean I wish for their demise,” Ollie quickly countered, waving her hands in denial. “It’s just a yearning, that’s all.”
A chuckle escaped Angel. “You still reckon this realm is the world after death? Truly, one doesn’t need to perish to reach this place.”
“But isn’t it said only the extraordinary can reach this realm?” Ollie inquired with a mix of curiosity and bewilderment.
“Do you believe that Jon is someone transcendent? To come here, all it takes is a mere spell,” Angel paused, noticing a hint of ease in Ollie’s furrowed brow, and continued, “If you truly miss them, adapt to the life here. In time, I’ll find a way to bring them, and then we’ll rely on you to be the guiding light to look after them.”
At this, Ollie was taken aback, her previously clouded face breaking into a radiant smile. “Agreed.”
Shortly after, they arrived in the eastern district, coming face to face with the iconic “Pat Manor.” The sight left everyone in astonishment, including Jon and Leon, as none had expected to encounter this familiar architecture here.
“Why is the estate located here?” someone murmured in disbelief.
Swatch gazed at the estate, her thoughts drifting to Ocean Theatre she had seen earlier. “With the Ocean Theatre already here, isn’t Pat Manor being here… expected?” She mused, slightly dazed.
In the midst of this bewildered atmosphere, Angel flung open the estate’s grand doors.
“From now on, this will be your home. As for the rooms, they’ll be just as you remember them.” Angel led the way, and after a brief pause, the rest followed with faces gleaming with joy.
Finding this familiar estate here probably offered them the greatest comfort in the past few hours.
However, as they entered, a former farmer squinted with a puzzled expression, “Why are there no fields?”
To put it more precisely, not only were there no fields, there weren’t even any plants.
What greeted their eyes was desolation.
“Concerning the fields, there will be solutions in time.” Angel coughed softly, indicating that as of now, he genuinely couldn’t address the vast expanse of the crops’ needs.
Indeed, if he truly desired to bring plants into existence, it’s feasible. For instance, sending some exceptional items into the Wilderness of Dreams through the Dream Conch, or taking sentient plants directly into the Wilderness of Dreams using the Dream Entry spell. However, such scenarios aren’t universally applicable.
Yet, if plants can manifest within the Wilderness of Dreams, there’s promise for the future.
Once you can harness the power from reality and introduce it into this realm, addressing the plant dilemma becomes trivial. Any nature inclined wizard could accomplish it.
The barrenness of the fields is but a minor hiccup. While many are curious, the information overload from today has kept them from dwelling on it too much. Their primary concern lies within the state of the manor.
