“Interestingly enough, this also ties back to you.”

Related to me?

As Angel looked puzzled, Isabelle smiled faintly, “You’re familiar with the soul of the little girl found at the bottom of the well in the graveyard outside Black Castle, aren’t you?”

Angel paused for a moment, “Hana?”

“Yes.”

“How does she relate to this?” Angel was still perplexed.

“The root of chaos, or what you refer to as the Thirteenth Daughter of Guman King, Hana once encountered her down that well. It was through Hana’s account that we could even know her appearance.”

Isabelle’s revelation jolted Angel’s memory of the journal left behind by Sparrow Blossom. The sketches within it had largely been deciphered, yet there remained an unidentified silhouette without a face.

Now, hearing Isabelle’s words, it meant Hana had actually met her in that deep well.

Could it imply that this Thirteenth Daughter of the Guman King was the faceless silhouette from the sketches?

Following this train of thought, many previous riddles that had puzzled him started making sense.

Hana’s sketches were never of a realistic style. She never had formal art training and drew based on her own interpretations, which exhibited a certain childlike innocence.

From Hana’s perspective, the Thirteenth Daughter of the Guman King had a visage, half fierce and half serene. Trying to depict her would be a challenge due to the nuanced features. Plus, the evident fear Hana felt towards her in the drawings suggested why she didn’t depict her face, but instead represented it with layers of deep, dark shadows.

Angel pondered more and more, feeling it might be possible, but there was a question he couldn’t quite unravel.

“Why would she meet Hana?”

There didn’t seem to be any connection between her and Hana. Hana hadn’t become a ghost, so what was her purpose in seeing Hana?

Moreover, according to the records, she had been to the well more than once. If she bore malice towards Hana, she could have killed her from the start. Yet, if she bore no ill intentions, why was Hana so terrified of her?

Isabelle explained, “It all boils down to the concept I mentioned earlier: a special soul.”

“You mean, Hana possesses such a special soul?” Angel seemed to have an epiphany.

“Yes, Hana is indeed a special soul. The source of chaos has visited the well multiple times searching for her, sensing her exceptional abilities,” Isabelle elaborated. “Using various tactics, she tried to manipulate, lure, and influence Hana’s thoughts, hoping Hana would assist her.”

Isabelle continued with a hint of emotion, “Under the persuasive pressure from the force of chaos, Hana resisted joining her. To a large extent, it was because you once created an illusionary realm for her in the well, offering her a beacon of hope. That’s why I believe this matter is deeply connected to you.”

Angel could almost visualize the scenario.

Hana, shivering and curled up in a corner of the illusion. Outside, the thirteenth daughter of King Guman, employing her silver tongue, whispered, “How did you die? Have you forgotten? If you don’t want to be a coward, join me, and we’ll bring down Black Castle…”

Whether or not Hana’s decision was influenced by him, Angel couldn’t be sure. Yet, with Isabelle’s words, he finally pieced together the puzzle.

After a brief silence, Isabelle added, “That’s the truth. Vanquishing the ghost benefits you, Hana, and our Black Castle.”

“How would you choose?”

Angel paused for a moment and remarked, “I wish to have a private audience with Hana.”

Isabelle nodded in understanding, “Of course, she’s been eagerly awaiting the moment of your reunion.”

After Isabella consented to his meeting with Hana, Angel made a resolute decision, “I won’t lend out the Prelude of Reincarnation, but I can fulfill your request by erasing the ghosts.”

As Isabelle previously mentioned, eradicating the ghosts wasn’t detrimental for him. He also needed to accumulate white light bullets, and having Black Castle owe him a favor was already a win-win.

Regarding not lending it out, it was out of Angel’s caution. Oftentimes, what’s lent might never return.

Therefore, his non-negotiable stance was to personally control the Prelude of Reincarnation.

Upon hearing Angel’s choice, Kimberly let out a sigh of relief, thinking, ‘If he doesn’t want to lend it, so be it.’

Regardless of who wielded the Prelude of Reincarnation, as long as it could alleviate the pressing issues of Black Castle, it was acceptable.

Isabella, on the other hand, scoffed, “Who would covet that broken weapon of yours anyway?”

Angel was ready to retort, but before he could, Isabelle sharply rebuked, “Isabella, the fate of Black Castle is intertwined with the Prelude of Reincarnation. What do you mean by mocking it?”

“Even without this weapon, it might just take a little longer, but the expulsion can still be achieved…” Isabella murmured, lowering her head.

But Isabelle’s countenance grew even colder. Had she not intercepted half of the Mysterious Spirit, the potential of the Prelude of Reincarnation would undoubtedly be a Mysterious Object! Isabella’s taunts, instead of impacting Angel, seemed more like she was slapping her own face.

“Enough, Isabella,” she declared sternly. “I think it’s time for you to reflect. Stop this deviant behavior, reevaluate yourself, and contemplate why you’ve consistently struggled to attain true knowledge.”

Isabelle’s words drained the color from Isabella’s face, turning it to a ghastly shade of pale. She opened her mouth, attempting to articulate her thoughts, but ultimately remained silent, her words dying in her throat.

“Before purifying the ghosts, I have a few matters to attend to and must take my leave. Also, I’ll have someone bring Hana later,” Isabelle assured Angel with a nod. Without hesitation, she tore open a rift in space, ready to depart.

However, just as she was about to step into the spatial rift, she turned back to Angel, remarking, “Almost forgot to extend my congratulations.”

Congratulations? Both Kimberly and Isabella lifted their gaze in puzzlement, uncertain of Isabelle’s intended commendation.

Angel queried, “What’s there to congratulate?”

“I heard from Rosen,” Isabelle began, “that you’ve become an official member of the Sky Mechanical City Research Institute. Isn’t that commendable?”

Finishing her words with a faint smile, Isabelle turned and departed.

Yet, the revelation left both Kimberly and Isabella taken aback, their eyes wide with astonishment. Angel, an official member of the Institute? How could that be?

To put things in perspective, within the vast expanses of Black Castle, no one had ever achieved such an honor. Even if one broadens the scope to the entire Fairytale Town Wizard Alliance, only a singular member belonged to the Research Institute — an alchemist with over eight centuries of experience under his belt!

Yet Angel, likely not even thirty and yet to be recognized as a formal wizard, was already part of this esteemed institution?

Kimberly felt as if she had stumbled upon a legend. Just yesterday, she considered herself in a position to advise others. In reality, his achievements dwarfed hers considerably.

Isabella was equally stunned. For the first time, a tinge of regret tinged her usually stoic demeanor. She couldn’t help but second-guess herself: Had I perhaps overstepped in the past?

Because she pursued Bogula, because Angel had golden hair and blue eyes, she sought to end him… But not only did she fail to end Angel’s life, his potential grew even brighter, shining like the sun!

For the mere reason of his “golden hair and blue eyes,” she provoked a formidable alchemist. Had she not offended him back then, perhaps there would be no need to involve her mentor, or maybe they could even win Angel over?

Should she really reflect on herself… as her mentor suggested?

While Isabella was lost in thought, Kimberly approached with a gleaming smile, “I never thought you’d be a part of the Research Institute. I’ve heard it has the most advanced mechanical alchemy knowledge in the Southern Region. How about we… exchange some insights?”

Perhaps sensing her offer of “exchange” might seem a bit brazen, Kimberly added, “Of course, I might be a bit behind in alchemy, but during my recent travels, I came across some intriguing knowledge that I could share.”

With nothing else pressing on his mind, Angel Agreed.

The exchange with Kimberly was mainly her asking questions and Angel answering them. Their dialogue continued for almost four hours, and had Natasha not arrived midway, Kimberly probably would have continued.

But Natasha didn’t come alone; she held the glowing essence of another soul.

A young girl with a canary-yellow dress, a snub nose, and eyes squinted with laughter, forming crescent moons.

It was Sparrow Blossom.
