Isabelle whispered, “The source of chaos has tricks up its sleeve that we’re unaware of; we mustn’t underestimate it.”

Sanders nodded in agreement, “Indeed. However, the most pressing matter at hand is the issue with the merged ghosts.”

Angel was at the heart of today’s operation. As things stood, the merged ghosts posed the greatest threat to Angel. It was imperative to neutralize them first.

However, dealing with these camouflaged merged ghosts was no walk in the park.

For, in the ensuing wave of ghosts, there were mere common ghosts, with not a single merged ghost in sight.

Even if Isabelle wanted to seek out these merged ghosts, she had no opportunity to do so.

By this point, Angel had skillfully pushed the battlefront near Black Castle. They were now less than a kilometer away from the densest concentration of ghosts.

The view from the base of the mountain had been breathtaking. Yet, as they neared its peak, the awe remained undiminished, if not intensified, leaving them utterly spellbound.

Ahead, the sheer number of ghosts was so overwhelming that it sent chills down one’s spine. If Angel were to take a shot here, the ghosts felled could likely form a white light bullet on their own.

From the foot of the mountain, they could barely make out the silhouette of Black Castle. But now, all they saw were faces contorted in grotesque terror and a palpable malevolence that was at its peak intensity.

Ordinary people, even the extraordinary, would feel the chill of this crazy intent if they were to stand nearby, making them restless and irritable.

“Should we continue forward?” Angel inquired through a mental link.

However, before Isabelle could respond, the ghost made the decision for her. Hordes of ghosts surged towards them!

Angel once saw footage of a locust plague in a holographic documentary about Earth. The overwhelming, horizon-to-horizon scenes from that film eerily mirrored the present situation.

The sky, the ground, and even the underground were teeming with ghosts, coming in relentless waves.

When such vast numbers of ghosts shrieked in unison, the malevolent gusts they whipped up even made formal wizards’ faces turn ashen.

“There are too many ghosts, Angel. Be exceedingly cautious. If you can’t hold out, find your way to me,” Sanders’s voice, unusually grave now, echoed.

Isabelle was unsure about the meaning of “find your way,” but she could infer Sanders’s protective intent.

“With so many ghosts, there’s surely a masquerading merged ghost among them. Your mentor was right. If anything feels off, alert us immediately,” Isabelle said.

By her estimation, the source of chaos certainly had its sights on Angel. Whether because of Angel himself or the Prelude of Reincarnation, the massive onslaught of ghosts indicated some sort of move by the opposition.

Angel understood this and grew increasingly solemn.

The waves of ghosts were no longer sporadic; it was a total onslaught. Previously, wizards present would probably only think of fleeing when faced with such a massive number of ghosts. However, with Angel and the high efficiency of the Prelude of Reincarnation, combined with their own banishing spells, they could just about maintain a balance.

Even though they were just holding the line against the vast army of ghosts, they firmly believed that as more ghosts were cleared, they’d have a significant chance to advance, ultimately driving the ghosts out of Black Castle.

For now, it seemed they were indeed heading in that direction.

However, all this hinges on Angel’s timely extermination of these ghosts. If something goes awry with Angel, then all their efforts would be for naught.

With this in mind, Kimberley instructed the nearby wizards, “While purging the ghosts, gradually move closer to Angel and prioritize his protection.”

Everyone acted upon this order, but just as they were about to approach Angel, behind the swarm of ghosts, a horde of grotesque ghosts appeared out of nowhere.

Simultaneously, an atmosphere of confusion and disarray swept over them.

“Merged ghosts!” A flash of horror crossed everyone’s eyes. The visible merged ghosts numbered at least a thousand, and the obscured ones were undoubtedly more!

All the merged ghosts charged at those present.

If they get close to Angel and the massive conglomerate of ghosts were to detonate, even a wizard of true knowledge would be unable to withstand the aftermath.

In the face of such a situation, their only option was to scatter.

With the onslaught of the merged ghosts, dazzling white light erupted everywhere, accompanied by the deafening roars of explosions. The previously orderly situation on the battlefield swiftly plunged into chaos.

Although Angel hadn’t been directly attacked by the merged ghosts, his circumstances were far from favorable.

The series of explosions not only brought chaos but also caused ripples in the surrounding energy. The world where Black Castle stood was already rich and lively in primal magic. Amidst these explosions, the energy undulated continuously, causing the already volatile primal magic to collapse and then reform.

In such tumultuous energy, Angel’s mental tendrils couldn’t extend beyond himself, rendering him blind to the distant occurrences.

One thing that added to Angel’s dismay was that the mental link had begun to falter.

Sanders’ voice from the other end was choppy. At first, Angel could vaguely make out what was being said, but later on, the mental link completely broke down, halting all mental signals at that moment.

Despite the continuous rumbling sounds around him and flashes of white light bullets illuminating the vicinity, it was a scene of utmost chaos.

Yet, for Angel, it felt as if he had slipped into a secluded, darkened isle. Surrounding this isle were malevolent ghosts, each seemingly intent on dragging him into a terrifying vortex.

All Angel could do now was to keep warding off the ghosts nearby, hoping for the surrounding energy to return to normalcy.

However, misfortune often strikes when least expected.

With a loud “clang——,” a tremendous noise erupted.

At first, Angel thought it was the explosion of a merged ghost. But when he looked up, he realized he was wrong. The source of the noise was a being beyond Angel’s wildest imagination!

A colossal skull slowly rose from the cliffs on the other side of Black Castle.

As the skull made its appearance, an immense, ghostly white hand, veined in blue, clung to the cliffside.

The sight brought back memories for Angel of a gargantuan creature they had seen during their previous visit to Black Castle——the Mountain Giant!

With a forceful push against the ground, the giantic figure leaped from the cliff and landed before them.

Angel’s eyes widened in shock as he recognized the face of the giant.

Judging from its visage, it truly resembled a mountain giant, though it seemed at least a tenth the size of the ones previously encountered. Perhaps this giant hadn’t undergone any magical transformation.

Yet, its stature rivaled that of Black Castle.

What’s strikingly evident is, this colossal being is a ghost!

With pale eyes, a ferocious countenance, and tusks curling upward, it was enveloped in a dark miasma.

“Where did this spectral giant originate from?” This wasn’t just Angel’s question but the curiosity of many.

While the ghost giant appeared terrifying, it wasn’t beyond containment.

Although Angel couldn’t yet receive messages from his mental space, he faintly perceived a dark silhouette heading towards the giant. Judging by its size, it seemed to be Isabella.

Indeed, as Angel was dealing with the surrounding ghosts, he heard a haunting laughter piercing through, unmistakably Isabella’s signature.

Despite Angel’s reservations about Isabella, given her power, she should be capable of handling this ghostly giant.

While engrossed in these thoughts, the giant suddenly turned around.

Angel’s pupils constricted.

On its back was another skull embedded! And judging by the size of this skull, it was also a ghost giant!

A merged ghost?

Angel’s mind instantly flashed with a name: “Merged ghost!”

This Perilous Mountain Giant ghost is a merged ghost! As soon as Angel realized this, he was gripped with dread. If such a massive ghost were to explode, it might level the entire mountaintop!

And Angel wasn’t the only one to come to this realization.

The witches of Black Castle also took notice. They were even more alarmed than Angel, fearing the potential explosion of this Mountain Giant ghost here. After all, this place was the very heart of Black Castle. The ramifications of its destruction would be unimaginable.

Isabella had originally planned to slay the Mountain Giant, but given this unexpected turn of events, she dared not act recklessly. If, because of her, Black Castle was reduced to rubble, she would likely become the laughingstock of the entire Wizarding World.

Upon witnessing this scene, Kimberly had no choice but to abandon her task. She shouted to Isabella, “I’ll stabilize the energy around it; you lead it away from here!”
