Chapter 1576 Granting Authority <TOC> Chapter 1578 Changing the Weather
Translator: SumTLMan
In Angel’s mental space, the Wilderness of Dreams appears like a luminous miniature garden, floating in a tranquil and dark void. The powers of the “Gate of Dreams” and the “Gatekeeper” manifest as a sandbox within this garden; and the “Power Tree” rises like a towering tree rooted inside the miniature garden, its shade covering the entire sandbox landscape.
An inexplicable wind causes the tree’s branches to sway.
Angel’s gaze is naturally drawn toward it.
On the dendritic structure represented by the Power Tree, there are no leaves, only raw powers hanging from its robust branches.
Originally, only three powers shone on the branches — those of the Gate of Dreams, the Gatekeeper, and the Sin Fog. These three powers also represent the currently active powers in the Wilderness of Dreams.
However, now, on a new branch, a power that had been shrouded in darkness starts to faintly glow.
Initially, the glow is as subtle as a firefly in the night, gradually increasing in brightness until it finally bursts into radiant light. Concurrently, this formerly concealed power becomes an official node on the Power Tree, complementing the other three glowing nodes.
When Angel observes this transformation, he doesn’t focus on the details of this new power. Instead, he opens his eyes and looks toward Sanders, who is not far away.
The illumination of a new node on the Power Tree undoubtedly means that Sanders has successfully integrated the new power!
As expected, it isn’t long before Sanders opens his eyes.
The moment he does, a strange shift ripples through the entire Wilderness of Dreams, as though a droplet has fallen onto a calm lake, sending concentric ripples spreading out until they cover the entire Wilderness. The ripples only gradually cease.
When these ripples reach Angel and cause slight disturbances, he instantly understands that this is an omen, a sign of something extraordinary.
In the Wilderness of Dreams, the concept of power, although illusory, shares some similarities with reality. In the real world, understanding the Laws also leads to visions, and the same holds true in the Wilderness of Dreams.
However, these visions in the Wilderness of Dreams aren’t just symbolic; they can also seek out individuals who resonate with this particular form of power.
So, after Sanders had pondered for a moment, Angel was quick to ask, “Is there anyone who resonates with this power?”
Sanders shook his head, “Unfortunately, no.”
“That’s to be expected; there are too few people in the Wilderness of Dreams,” Angel sighed, then curiously inquired, “How effective is the Scroll of Luck? Does the acquired power have something to do with energy manipulation?”
Although Angel could check through the Power Tree, hearing it from Sanders adds a sense of ceremony to the occasion.
Meeting Angel’s expectant gaze, Sanders didn’t beat around the bush and nodded, “Yes, it does.”
“Based on the information we have, it should be possible to bring one’s abilities from reality into the Wilderness of Dreams.”
As Sanders finished speaking, an uncontainable exuberance flickered in Angel’s eyes!
You see, the reason Angel initially agreed to research the Wilderness of Dreams with Freud was twofold: one for Jon, and the other was to experiment with ‘Infinite Alchemy’ through the combination of the Wilderness of Dreams and the Dream Conch.
Unfortunately, because one couldn’t bring their real-world capabilities into the Wilderness of Dreams, ‘Infinite Alchemy’ remained a distant dream.
Angel thought that this dream might take a long, long time to realize. But now that Sanders had confirmed it personally, how could he not be ecstatic!
Moreover, once one’s real-world abilities could be transferred into the Wilderness of Dreams, many things could become possible.
Throwing ceremony to the wind, Angel promptly opened the Power Tree to read about the powers Sanders had acquired.
“Power Level Restriction: With this Dream Power, one can control the strength level of external entities entering the Wilderness of Dreams.”
Indeed, there’s no mistake!
The Scroll of Luck has worked its magic once again, and this time, it seems like there were no minor hiccups!
Excited, the first thing they did was to test out this new Dream Power.
However, moments later.
Angel stood bewildered in the vast expanse of the Wilderness of Dreams, utterly confused.
Why was it ineffective? Why couldn’t they manipulate energy? The notion of bringing one’s strength into the Wilderness of Dreams had not materialized at all.
Sanders pondered for a moment: “Let me sense the information about this Power Tree a little more, to see if we missed any details.”
Angel nodded and immersed his thoughts into the Power Tree as well, meticulously examining each piece of information.
As their research deepened, Angel gradually began to understand some of the characteristics of this new Dream Power.
Power Level Restriction, although it allows control over the strength levels of external entities entering the Wilderness of Dreams, comes with a caveat — the level cannot exceed that of the Dream Power’s possessor.
That is to say, even if someone with higher capabilities were to enter the Wilderness of Dreams, they wouldn’t be able to exert power beyond that of the true knowledge level two, as Sanders, the possessor of ‘Power Level Restriction,’ only has strength up to second level true knowledge.
Furthermore, you must also have a foundational strength in reality.
For instance, let’s say Sanders restricts the power level within the Wilderness of Dreams to that of an apprentice. Even if you are a formal wizard, upon entering the Wilderness of Dreams, your abilities would be limited to that of an apprentice.
However, if an ordinary person were to enter, their abilities wouldn’t automatically rise to that of an apprentice just because the level is restricted to it; they would still need a basis of power in reality.
In reality, you are a mere mortal, and even upon entering the Wilderness of Dreams, you remain a mere mortal.
Beyond this, there are numerous other constraints and prerequisites. Angel spent over an hour briefly reviewing these limitations.
However, from any perspective, both he and Sanders seem to meet these conditions, don’t they?
After all, Angel can adjust the “Power Level Restriction” through the Power Tree.
So why can’t they bring their real-world abilities into the Wilderness of Dreams? What exactly is the issue?
While Angel is pondering, he hears Sanders mutter quietly, “The Power Level Restriction itself isn’t the problem. Could the issue lie not in the restriction but in the external environment?”
As he mumbles these words, both Angel and Sanders almost simultaneously come to a realization.
“Energy!”
While they call it energy, they both know that what’s actually at stake is the system of power!
Something is wrong with the system of power!
The Wilderness of Dreams is an extension of the Dream Realm; in such an overarching environment, there’s no magical energy available for use.
Without an environment conducive to casting spells, naturally, energy manipulation is impossible! So, it’s not an issue with the abilities but indeed with the external environment.
Upon confirming this fact, Angel also feels a bit disheartened.
So, in that case, this “Power Level Restriction” doesn’t really seem to serve any purpose. Could it be that only wizards specialized in dream-based powers can exercise control over energy in this place?
After a moment of silence, Sanders says, “There aren’t many wizards specialized in dream-based powers in the Southern Region. I know very little about the system of the Dream Realm. Perhaps we should ask Freud; he might know something.”
Angel concurred with Sanders’ viewpoint. After once again concealing the main body of the Nightmare Domain, Angel exited the Wilderness of Dreams.
When they logged back in, Angel had already used the Dream Power of the Gate of Dreams to shift their entry point to the Azure Tower.
At this moment, Freud was still seated at his desk, deeply contemplating how to deal with Sinful Monsters. Spotting Angel and Sanders’ arrival, his spirits lifted. As Freud was about to inquire about their newly acquired powers, Angel preempted him by voicing his own questions.
Upon hearing the term “Power Level Restriction,” Freud’s heart leapt for joy, thinking he could bring his real-world abilities into the Wilderness of Dreams.
However, after listening to Angel’s explanation, he paused, puzzled.
Freud: “Lack of a corresponding power system?”
Angel nodded, “We speculate, could it be that only dream-specialist wizards can fully unleash their abilities in the Wilderness of Dreams?”
Freud immediately shook his head, “That’s not right. Even dream-specialist wizards, when confronting creatures of the Dream Realm, wouldn’t solely rely on dream-sequence powers. They would also use their intrinsic wizardly powers for handling situations.”
Freud paused for a moment, “I think you may be laboring under a misconception.”
“The issue of power systems is fundamentally not a problem in the Dream Realm. There’s a widely circulated saying among dream-specialist wizards——”
“‘With dreams as your steed, no boundaries will exist in the distance.'”
This implies that the breadth and freedom within dreams surpass imagination. Otherwise, why could a person become both the creator of all things and mere dust in their dreams?
Because dreams set no limits.
“Since dreams have no limitations, naturally there’s no such thing as a fixed power system. In the Dream Realm, whatever energy you perceive, if you regard it as nen power from the Hante World, then it can be controlled as nen power; if you consider it as the eldritch power from the Lovecraftian world, then it’s the eldritch power,” Freud explained. “So, the same holds true for primal magical power.”
Angel pondered and said, “So you’re saying our inability to manipulate energy has nothing to do with the power system?”
Freud, taking a different tack, shook his head, “No, that’s not what I mean. I think your assessment isn’t incorrect; it may very well have to do with the power system.”
Angel paused, “Then why did you initially talk at length about dreams being limitless?”
Freud clarified, “What I said mostly pertains to the Dream Realm. However, the Wilderness of Dreams is not the same as the Dream Realm.”
“The Wilderness of Dreams, although derived from the Dream Realm, has its own set of laws, and these laws are far more stringent than those of the Dream Realm. Therefore, I think it leans more towards the real world.”
“In the Wilderness of Dreams, things don’t simply expand or contract at will, nor do wishes materialize just by thinking or speaking. It operates under a chain of laws that adhere to its own internal logic, resembling the real world with over ninety percent similarity.”
Otherwise, new residents of Initial Heart City wouldn’t go about their lives as if they were still human.
“So, if you can’t manipulate energy, according to the more rigorous laws of the Wilderness of Dreams, it’s highly likely due to a problem with the power system.”
“Once the issue is identified, resolving it becomes rather straightforward.”
Upon hearing Freud’s explanation, both Angel and Sanders understood.
It’s essentially a closed loop missing one element. To complete this loop, one would need to introduce a corresponding power system into the Wilderness of Dreams.
And how would that manifest?
Undoubtedly, it’s related to another, as yet unknown, form of power.
