Chapter 1588 Joining Forces

Chapter 1587 She is Nausica <TOC> Chapter 1589 The Departure of Fingernail Granny

The conversation between Nausica and Reynolds had come to an end. Reynolds concluded with a polite bow to Nausica before turning and making his exit.

As Reynolds stepped into the courtyard, he saw Angel, who had reverted to his original appearance. Immediately, Reynolds offered Angel a respectful bow.

Angel acknowledged him with a smile. Given that Reynolds had offered insights to Leon in the past, regardless of whether or not he knew Leon’s true identity, or whether his advice was intentional, Angel couldn’t afford to give him the cold shoulder.

Originally, Coral had planned to invite Reynolds to stay for a barbecue in the courtyard. However, after seeing Angel, Reynolds seemed somewhat restrained. He declined the invitation, stating he had matters to attend to, and left ahead of time.

Watching Reynolds’s retreating figure, Coral wore a puzzled expression. “Was he rejected by Nausica?”

Coral pushed open the grand door and looked at Nausica, who was seated in the grand hall.

Nausica was still gripping a smoking pipe, the air around her infused with the unique scent of tobacco. Amidst the smoke, her eyes looked somewhat hazy, as if she were lost in thought or caught in a moment of hesitation.

“You look indecisive. Did Reynolds confess to you? Are you contemplating whether or not to be with him?” Coral lifted the curtain of the grand hall and rushed over to Nausica.

Snapping out of her reverie, Nausica chuckled at Coral’s speculation. “What wild thoughts are you entertaining? Reynolds and I were just discussing some matters.”

“Discussing matters? What matters?” The voice belonged to Leon, who had followed Coral into the hall.

Nausica glanced at Leon, but her gaze quickly settled on Angel, who was beside him. She exhaled a plume of white smoke and languidly waved her hand towards Angel.

“It’s rare to see you coming around.”

Angel: “I’ve been busy conducting some spell experiments lately.”

Nausica stretched and yawned, “After the Novastar Competition, I’m planning to delve into mastering new spells as well. Each new spell I learn feels like it drains my inner resources. If I don’t enrich myself, I might not even make it into the top hundred in similar future competitions.”

Although Nausica possesses strong innate abilities, she hasn’t reached a point where she can rely solely on them; she certainly needs spells to supplement her skills.

After exchanging brief pleasantries, everyone sat down, and Nausica began to answer Leon’s questions.

“Reynolds approached me because he hopes to collaborate on a specific project,” Nausica lightly touched her forehead, “I’m debating whether to go.”

Nausica didn’t specify what the project was, probably due to it involving Reynolds’ secrets, and nobody pressed her for details.

“Why didn’t Reynolds seek someone else for this collaboration? Why you?” Angel asked.

“Because the place Reynolds wants to go has something I need as well,” Nausica continued to be vague, but made clear that while their goals might differ, their destinations are the same, which is why Reynolds invited her.

Observing Nausica’s hesitant demeanor, Angel offered no further advice.

Weighing the pros and cons is something Nausica is more adept at than he is. She knows what she’s striving for and isn’t impulsive. Therefore, Angel felt no need to instruct Nausica on how to proceed.

However, as a close friend, Angel added, “If you encounter any difficulties, you can come to me anytime.”

Nausica paused for a moment and then burst into a smile, “Of course, it would be a waste not to lean on such a strong support like you.”

Nausica was not inclined to discuss Reynolds further and quickly changed the subject, “Speaking of which, Gank is having a barbecue today; it’s great that you could join us.”

Catching the hint, Angel refrained from saying more. During the subsequent barbecue, Angel met Shalem and also saw Hilary, who had surprisingly awakened from her slumber.

Shalem was still somewhat disheartened, but not because he had lost several competitions in a row and slipped in the rankings. What truly bothered him was the seemingly hopeless state of his tome, which weighed heavily on his heart.

In response to this, Angel advised, “If your tome has promised that it will come back to life, then perhaps you should believe in it. If you’re really concerned, the next time you see Book Ancestor, why not ask him for guidance? If that doesn’t suffice, you could also consult Totoro.”

Upon hearing this, Shalem’s expression eased a little. Meeting Book Ancestor was uncertain; as for Totoro, Shalem only knew that he was a student specializing in prophecy and was quite close to Angel. Beyond that, Shalem had no idea about Totoro’s abilities. But simply knowing that Totoro was involved in prophecy offered some solace — it was a path he could consider.

With his mood somewhat lifted, Shalem became more talkative, which helped to break the initial silence and enliven the atmosphere of the barbecue feast.

Angel then voiced his own curiosity, “Do you have any more competitions coming up?”

Nausica had no more competitions unless someone challenged her. However, given that she was ranked near the bottom of the hundred, it was unlikely anyone would.

Shalem, on the other hand, did have a few upcoming competitions, but they were initiated by challengers. Shalem himself was not planning on participating and was willing to forfeit, so Angel didn’t feel the need to attend either.

In light of this, Angel concluded that he didn’t have to watch the ranking competitions at all.

Upon reaching this conclusion, Angel proceeded to inquire about the final top sixteen and their matches, especially since Hilary was still in the competition.

“I don’t know who I’ll be matched with; the list will be out tomorrow night,” Hilary said leisurely, exuding a vibe that he could fall asleep at any moment.

While Hilary seemed indifferent to the final rankings, he was the last remaining competitor from the Savage Grottoes, so everyone hoped he would climb higher in the standings.

After leaving the Bliss Pavilion, Angel returned to his estate and resumed his research in the Wilderness of Dreams with Freud.

By the evening of the second day, Angel left the Wilderness of Dreams and took out his communicator to check the list of the top 16 competitors.

On this list, his primary focus was naturally on Hilary and Cherie.

He least wanted these two to face off against each other; after all, both were good friends to him. Moreover, one was skilled in fire magic and the other in water, making them virtually indestructible adversaries to one another.

After reviewing the list, he let out a slight sigh of relief.

The 16 competitors were divided into two groups, and Hilary and Cherie were not in the same one. They would not meet unless they both made it to the finals.

Hilary’s first match was against someone named “Shining New Star.”

Angel recalled that Shining New Star had previously competed against Reynolds, who lost. Everyone thought that Reynolds had lost his “John’s Comeback” lucky streak, but in reality, Reynolds’ loss saved him from facing off against Jiebo.

Shining New Star then faced Jiebo and lost. Nonetheless, he still ranked in the top 16, indicating he was not to be underestimated.

As for Cherie’s opponent, Angel was also familiar with him — it was “The Spring Waltz” Dominico.

Angel roughly estimated that it was hard to predict the outcome of the match between Hilary and Shining New Star because he didn’t know what kind of person Shining New Star really was. But in the case of Cherie and Dominico, Cherie had essentially already secured her victory.

The ranking matches had not yet concluded, but the group-stage matches for the day were already underway.

The popularity of Infinite Battle Tower reached its peak that day. Even before Angel entered Infinite Battle Tower, he could feel the skyrocketing enthusiasm just by passing through the sky.

Within a 300-meter radius of Infinite Battle Tower, it was so crowded that people were elbow-to-elbow, indicating just how many had come to watch the competition.

The competition created a sensation, leading to a scarcity of tickets.

Particularly, a few highly-anticipated matches, such as those featuring Jiebo, Carvelyn, Wintertime Antler, and Onassis, sold out almost instantaneously.

Angel, however, didn’t need to purchase a ticket; he attended the competition in the capacity of a special guest judge.

The match he chose to watch was Hilary’s match.

Titled “Sleepy Trickle to Flowing Stream VS Shining New Star.”
