“Gaining more strength would indeed be beneficial,” Angel murmured, gazing into the heart of the energy vortex in the distance.
Gloria gave a subtle nod, remaining silent. Deep down, she was acutely aware that the burning desire to become stronger had always haunted Toby.
Throughout their time in Sky Mechanical City, where Toby began his training, Gloria observed that, although Toby detested various drills, he had never once defied her.
This was a marked change from the past. Before meeting Angel, Toby behaved like a devil-may-care mischief-maker at the Barbie Restaurant, always avoiding training. Even when Gloria pressed, Toby always found an excuse to wriggle out. Faced with Toby’s pitiful pleas, Gloria, unable to be too harsh, would invariably relent.
But now, Toby was like a bird reborn, actively engaging in training and yearning to become formidable.
Out of the corner of her eye, Gloria glanced at Angel beside her. It was all because of him.
Though she had never asked Toby directly, Gloria felt certain of this. Perhaps Angel had progressed so rapidly that Toby felt left behind; or maybe, something had transpired during their adventures, prompting Toby to strive for strength to safeguard both himself and Angel.
Toby’s determination was evident every time Gloria trained him. His face said it all.
The bond between Toby and Angel occasionally stirred a hint of jealousy in Gloria. Yet, upon reflection, she came to terms with it. Although Toby was born in the Barbie Restaurant, his growth alongside Angel was undeniable. They had been companions through thick and thin, progressing from weakness to strength. Toby’s admiration for Angel was evident from their first encounter. In return, Angel respected Toby, never treating him like a mere pet, and certainly not binding him with a malevolent magical creature contract. Instead, he viewed Toby as his closest and dearest companion.
Their shared growth and mutual respect were probably the reasons Angel held such a significant place in Toby’s heart.
Gloria could indeed maintain mutual respect with Toby. However, the aspect of growing up alongside him was a challenge for her. It wasn’t that she didn’t wish to be with Toby. Instead, Toby’s affection towards her resembled that of a child to a mother — everlasting love and admiration. Yet, the enduring companionship seemed challenging. Children eventually grow up, forging their own paths with friends and life. Gloria recognized this reality. Even if she had the choice to keep Toby with her, she ultimately let him accompany Angel and leave the Barbie Restaurant.
As time would show, this was the right choice. With Angel, Toby finally began to mature.
“Even though I understand, it still feels a bit bitter,” whispered Gloria.
“What did you say?” Angel turned, looking puzzled at Gloria, seeking clarification.
Gloria simply shook her head, “Nothing much. Just reflecting on the journey Toby has made. It evokes certain emotions.”
Angel, assuming Gloria was referring to Toby’s transformation, nodded in agreement, “Toby has indeed changed a lot. After enduring this tribulation, I believe his transformation will be even more profound.”
Gloria smiled, choosing not to continue the conversation.
Time passed, another half-hour went by. The energy around Toby grew more intense, making the very fabric of space unstable, evident from the visible spatial distortions.
Due to these distortions, the affected area expanded, forcing Gloria and Angel to retreat further.
Now, the epicenter of Toby’s evolution resembled a colossal cocoon formed by a vortex of energy, incessantly swirling around. One couldn’t see inside, but the sheer magnitude of its presence was unparalleled.
Angel felt somewhat relieved at their decision to let Toby face this tribulation in the void. If this were to happen in Sky Mechanical City, the consequences could have been unimaginable.
“I wonder how long this energy will continue to accumulate.”
As Angel was lost in contemplation, Gloria suddenly remarked, “It’s here.”
Initially, Angel didn’t quite grasp what Gloria meant by “it’s here”. It wasn’t until a force as oppressive as wrath of the heavens bore down on them that Angel realized Gloria was referring to… the World Will.
Even though it was merely a branch of the World Will, the sheer terror of its presence left both Angel and Gloria shaken to their cores.
The World Will didn’t linger for long. It was like an ancient and indifferent deity, briefly casting its gaze in their direction before swiftly retracting it.
While the World Will disappeared rapidly, it still drew the attention of some.
For instance, at that very moment, several rifts tore open in the void. With the appearance of these rifts, shadowy figures emerged from within.
Since this void was connected to Sky Mechanical City, all those who emerged were wizards from that city. Upon exiting, they exchanged glances, whispered among themselves, and finally, their eyes settled on the distant “cocoon” and on Angel.
The focus on Angel was twofold: Firstly, Angel seemed to be the first to arrive in the void and might know about the origin of the emerging beings. Secondly, Angel’s distinct identity was a factor.
Angel was acutely aware of these gazes but chose to ignore them, maintaining his focus on the distance.
Gloria, on the other hand, surveyed the surroundings and telepathically cautioned Angel, “Be wary of these individuals; there are some rather ruthless figures among them.”
Angel grasped Gloria’s meaning. To others, Toby was a delectable feast, especially after its advancement. Being of wizard-level, it would certainly entice those overwhelmed by their own greed.
Therefore, it was possible that among these wizards, some might harbor ill intentions towards Toby.
While Angel wasn’t overly concerned, with both him and Gloria present, others would have to think twice before trying to forcibly seize anything based on their own capabilities. Moreover, even if they weren’t there to help, Toby likely wouldn’t be in much danger. When Toby was still in the apprentice realm, he had already surpassed the speed of formal wizards by manipulating the Gravity Lines. Now, having advanced and taken on the even swifter form of a Serpent-Bird, if he chose to flee, nobody could catch up — not even Angel.
Compared to these wizards, what Angel was genuinely more concerned about were some other obscure glances.
When the World Will descended, Angel instantly sensed some incredibly vague gazes sweeping over them. However, these weren’t from the group of wizards that had just emerged, but from the depths of the void…
Were they creatures from the void’s depths? Or perhaps an entity from an even more distant world had taken note of the happenings here?
Regardless of what it was, it likely wouldn’t be pleasant to deal with.
…
The appearance of the World Will attracted a significant crowd, but it also indicated something——
Toby’s current advancement was probably far from ordinary. A regular advancement wouldn’t garner the attention of the World Will.
Amidst a sea of varying emotions, the energy accumulating around Toby finally reached a peak.
When a roar emanated from the “cocoon.”
The Omen Sign finally Arrived.
