Jon was somewhat stunned; he just wanted to experiment, but then he overheard a conversation.
The content of the conversation was not important. What mattered was that he could understand the chat between the Dream Plant Fairies!
This type of conversation was extremely subtle. It was not about acquiring information through auditory symbols, but through direct mental communication.
In his youth, Jon had seen a holographic movie about advanced extraterrestrial life arriving on Earth. In one scene, humans discovered they could communicate with aliens without barriers, through mental connection.
This form of communication, which on Earth could only exist as a fantastical interactive form in movies, was now a reality before Jon.
The consciousness fluctuations of the two Dream Plant Fairies continued to radiate outward, and Jon, just by feeling their consciousness fluctuations, understood their intended message.
The speed of this information acquisition was much more direct and faster than through text, images, or other symbolic meanings.
On Earth, any form of communication essentially involved seeing with the eyes, transmitting through neurotransmitters, and analyzing with the brain, a progressive, layered model. However, mental communication turned into a point-to-point model, bypassing all unnecessary steps and directly entering the final stage of information acquisition.
This was Jon’s first experience of such a situation. He stood there in shock. Various thoughts interwove in his mind, forming complex streams of information.
Fortunately, Jon was only pondering in his mind. If he had transmitted his consciousness outward, the complex flow of information would probably have startled the Dream Plant Fairies secretly chatting.
However, even though Jon did not transmit his consciousness, the light representing him exposed his presence.
The two Dream Plant Fairies, who were originally engaged in conversation, suddenly paused. One of them said, “It seems like there’s an additional light point. Who are you?”
“The aura feels so unfamiliar. I think this is the first time I’ve sensed something like this.”
The Dream Plant Fairies stopped their ongoing discussion and instead started to curiously examine the light point representing Jon.
Jon, who was still shocked by the experience of telepathic communication, heard them talking about him and realized that his actions amounted to… eavesdropping. Raised with a core value of morality and educated in the feeling of shame, Jon felt increasingly uncomfortable.
It was one thing to eavesdrop, but getting caught was utterly embarrassing for Jon.
After a moment of silence, Jon braced himself for a reprimand. However, to his surprise, the Dream Plant Fairies, after studying the light point representing Jon for a while, naturally switched back to their other topics.
It seemed as though Jon’s presence hadn’t really affected them.
There was some impact, though. After discussing various topics for a while and noticing Jon’s silent presence, one of the light points sent out a wave of consciousness.
“Do you want to join our chat?” This was an invitation filled with goodwill, but Jon didn’t respond.
Uncertain about how to communicate with these otherworldly beings and seeing that they didn’t seem to mind his silence, Jon chose to——flee.
With just a thought, Jon’s light point swiftly traversed the distances of time and space, re-entering the sandbox.
Looking at the myriad of dazzling, star-like light points in the sandbox, Jon felt like a droplet in a vast river, his moment of embarrassment concealed among the countless other similar points. Only then did Jon breathe a sigh of relief.
At this point, Jon no longer wished to communicate with other light points. Moreover, Angel was waiting outside, and it wasn’t the right time.
Upon reflecting on this, Jon took one last look at the sandbox and then slowly exited the Mother Tree Network.
After Jon left the sandbox, near the planning department of Initial Heart City, two Dream Plant Fairies glanced at each other: “Was that light point just now Little Curly Hair?”
“It doesn’t quite seem like it. Little Curly Hair’s consciousness is like a glass knife, sharp in appearance but actually quite fragile. The consciousness in that light point just now didn’t have that kind of sharpness.”
“If it wasn’t Little Curly Hair, then who was it?”
“It doesn’t matter much; after all, we’re all part of the same kind. The most important thing for us now is to finish building the green spaces in the human city, and then we can go find that human who sings!”
…
Jon put down the tree branch he was touching his forehead with, signifying his departure from the Mother Tree Network.
However, Angel did not disturb him immediately but waited for Jon to come back to his senses before asking him about his views on the Mother Tree Network.
“It’s quite unique and interesting,” Jon paused: “Although I didn’t experience it for long, from my perspective, the Mother Tree Network is very impressive.”
Jon’s response was actually somewhat conservative. Just the fact of discarding language barriers and communicating through consciousness was enough to glimpse its extraordinary nature.
“However, although I think the Mother Tree Network has a lot of potential, it’s hard to say whether it can become a medium for information explosion like Earth’s civilization. Of course, the potential is still significant.”
Following this, Jon shared some of his observations and viewpoints, focusing particularly on the aspect of consciousness communication.
It was perhaps the first time Jon had such a wonderful experience, his words overflowing with unending lavish praises. In his conversation, he also used many Chinese idioms and proverbs that Angel had never heard before. Although their meanings were unknown, they still impressed.
However, Jon wasn’t just flattering. After highlighting the positives, he shifted the conversation to talk about the drawbacks of this experience.
“As for the drawbacks, let’s start with the method of entering the Mother Tree Network. I think the process to enter is a bit too complicated, reminiscent of the dial-up internet era. If it could be simplified, that would be best.”
“The interface of the Mother Tree Network is somewhat like a sandbox. It’s not bad, but like a mechanical creation, it could be more pleasing to the eye with a better design.”
“Once inside the sandbox, one can see all the bright and dim lights, and the distance of these lights also represents real-world distance. This means, it’s difficult to hide one’s location.”
“Moreover, just by a thought, getting close to someone else’s light allows you to hear other lights’ conversations, which lacks privacy.”
Having experienced the information overload of the holographic network era, Jon found the Mother Tree Network, despite its unique and advanced technologies, to be quite rough from a perfection standpoint. When he talked about drawbacks, they naturally followed one after another.
Jon’s philosophy was very comprehensive and advanced. The advantages he spoke of were somewhat trivial, but his discussion of the drawbacks brought significant enlightenment to Angel.
After listing a series of drawbacks, Jon concluded, “…The foundation of the Mother Tree Network itself is good, but the lack of a robust network environment and communication community is the biggest regret I can see right now.”
