This is a gentle slope covered with black thorns, and looking around, there are almost no other plants besides the thorns.
Black dusts drift in the wind, and the sky overhead is a dull gray.
Maya senses her surroundings with a hint of hesitation in her heart. Not long ago, she was still following her inner desire, hoping to find answers in the Mystery of Starlight, but she ended up here.
Of course, it was not her physical body that arrived, but her consciousness immersed in the future.
This fragment of the future is thicker and more substantial than any other fragment Maya has sensed before. She feels like a butterfly that has traveled through time and space, personally arriving in the world of the future.
Even, Maya can freely observe her surroundings. Compared to the fragments she saw before, her freedom has increased significantly.
What place is this? Is it related to Angel?
Maya observes her surroundings. Although she cannot truly sense the energy around her, just by looking at the scenery, she feels an indescribable touch in her heart.
The environment here gives her an inexplicable sense of familiarity.
Where exactly is this?
As Maya ponders, the scene suddenly elevates, and her view slowly rises from the ground to the sky. As she looks at the foggy celestial phenomena above, she seems to realize something and eagerly shifts her view back to the ground.
Previously, her view wasn’t very clear, only seeing the surroundings covered with thorns. But now, from a high vantage point, she clearly sees that this thorny land stretches for thousands of kilometers.
The entire ridge was covered in black thorns, and from above, it resembled countless ghastly hands stretching out from hell.
Maya slowly shifted her gaze and, in the far south, she saw a series of undulating mountains.
Gazing at these continuous ranges, Maya softly murmured a name: “The Cold Ancient Ruins.”
Two hundred years ago, Maya had visited the Cold Ancient Ruins, so she was quite familiar with the layout of the nearby mountains.
Since the far south was home to the Cold Ancient Ruins, there was no doubt that this place was on the surface layer of the Abyss.
Her current location was to the north of the Cold Ancient Ruins——Thorn Ridge.
Famous for its dense black thorns, Thorn Ridge was indeed covered with them, so Maya quickly confirmed her position. However, she still didn’t understand what this vision of the future was trying to tell her.
As Maya puzzledly scanned her surroundings, something in her peripheral vision caught her attention.
At the very center of Thorn Ridge, there seemed to be a flickering light.
What was that place? Why was there a light? As Maya pondered, her perspective suddenly shifted, zooming towards the light like a falling star.
During this rapid shift, Maya saw the truth behind the light——it emanated from a window on the third floor of an ancient castle.
Maya was curious when a castle, clearly of human architectural style, had appeared in the center of Thorn Ridge, when her view abruptly collided with the castle.
Once her perspective stabilized, Maya realized she had entered the castle.
She was in a dark corridor, completely blocked by a massive amount of thorns at both ends, meaning that while the corridor seemed lengthy, the thorny blockades limited the space to less than ten meters.
In this confined space, there was a door.
A faint light shone through the crack of the door, revealing a room in the ancient castle lit up by lamps. Unfortunately, the room’s door was locked, concealing its contents.
However, the light casting shadows through the crack suggested someone was inside.
After an indeterminate amount of time, Maya suddenly heard a sinister laugh from beneath the corridor’s floor. She was on the third floor of the ancient castle, meaning the laughter was coming from the second floor?
The laugh was unsettling, and even though Maya wasn’t in a real environment, it still made her skin crawl.
Soon after the laughter, Maya noticed the illuminated door opening, and a woman stepped out, heading towards her.
This allowed Maya to get a clear view of the woman.
She wore a vividly red robe as if soaked in boiling blood, with emerald-green hair and thorns covering her body, constantly shifting beneath her clothes and skin.
“Could it be her?” Maya thought, realizing the significant theme of this future segment. But she hadn’t anticipated that the protagonist of this themed segment would be——
Madeline!
Known as “Violent Thorn,” Madeline Silian!
After the Silian family suffered a devastating massacre, Madeline, the survivor, was forced to leave her ancestral wizard family. After wandering for some time, she joined the Savage Grottoes.
Maya and Madeline were actually not very familiar with each other because Madeline had joined the Savage Grottoes not long before being sent to the Abyss, and then she never returned; no one knew where she had gone…
The last time Angel returned to the Savage Grottoes, he mentioned Madeline but didn’t say much, only that she was staying in the Abyss for the time being and not coming back.
Unexpectedly, Madeline stayed at Thorn Ridge.
As Maya was pondering over the information about Madeline, the future Madeline passed through her body and walked towards the corridor behind her.
Before, the corridor was filled with thorns, blocking all passages. But when Madeline walked past, the thorns naturally parted, and when she left, they closed back up naturally.
Maya’s gaze was locked on Madeline.
Madeline’s expression did not seem calm; she seemed to be quite concerned about the sinister laughter from before and quickly ran towards the end of the corridor.
Upon reaching the end of the corridor, Maya noticed that there was a wall of magic there. The wall bore special magical runes, and only the caster could decrypt the codes on the wall.
Clearly, this wall of magic was made by Madeline. She was seen stretching out her hand to touch the wall’s surface and then closing her eyes to slowly channel the magic power from her mental space.
The wall of magic began to glow.
Just as the codes on the wall of magic were about to be decrypted, Maya’s heart suddenly leaped, and she turned her gaze back towards what was behind Madeline.
She saw dense thorns that had quietly begun to move at some unknown time.
The face of a pale and eerie girl appeared among the thorns.
Madeline was intently deciphering the codes of the spell barrier, unaware of the anomaly behind her.
Until, that face began to slowly extend outward——
Like a snake, the girl’s neck stretched longer and longer until it reached the back of Madeline’s head.
The girl’s mouth also began to slowly tear apart, instantly transforming into a terrifyingly large maw.
Perhaps alerted by the sinister wind behind her, Madeline abruptly turned her head, only to be confronted by that gaping mouth full of sharp teeth.
In the next instant, the girl’s massive maw engulfed Madeline’s head.
In the dark corridor, aside from the eerie laughter and the piercing screams, there was the continuous, unceasing sound of chewing…
