Tree Spirit’s avatar opened its eyes not long after, delivering a message from Rhine. “Rhine is aware and is currently in a meeting; he will come later to personally coordinate with Lord Rosen and Director Muse.”
After conveying Rhine’s message, Tree Spirit spoke to Angel, “With the collective effort of the major wizard organizations, eradicating the Bud should not be difficult. Then, you won’t have to worry about being targeted by the Bud.”
“However, before we officially move against the Bud, you might need to lay low for a while.”
Angel understood this well. He had been planning to consolidate his own strength recently, so avoiding attention was in line with his own intentions.
After discussing the Bud, Tree Spirit inquired about Angel’s progress in restoring the magic formation. Upon confirming that Angel hadn’t started the actual restoration, Tree Spirit didn’t say much more, only asking Angel to inform him once the restoration was complete before disappearing, evidently eager to return to listen to more updates from Rhine’s meeting.
Angel, returning to the ruins, felt quite at ease. In his view, the Bud no longer posed a significant threat to him. By just avoiding it for a while, and once the wizard organizations united against the Bud, he could be completely worry-free. He anticipated that it wouldn’t take long for the confrontation to begin, as delaying would only be detrimental to the wizards of the Southern Region. He estimated that within the year, the situation would escalate, and he wouldn’t have to worry about the Bud anymore.
With a relaxed mind, Angel picked up the blood ink and carving pen to begin restoring the damaged runes on the door. Immersed in the task, he lost track of time, but his efficiency was much higher than expected due to his comfortable state of mind.
As the morning star of the next day rose from the dark night, heralding a new day, Angel’s restoration was finally complete.
When the last missing corner was carved and connected, the blood-red lines emitted a faint glow.
The glow lasted for about half a minute, turning from a deep red to a pale one, and finally completely fading to colorless, before projecting onto the rune.
After the light and shadow converged, the door and the rune clearly exhibited a sense of unity. It was as if the dense runes were inherently part of the door, not etched onto it.
Angel used the Eye of Nalda to conduct a comprehensive appraisal of all the runes.
Finally, confirming that each stripe was symmetrical and correct, and the energy flow in the circuit was normal, Angel breathed a sigh of relief.
At this moment, Angel could also confidently say that the magic formation on the door had been successfully repaired.
Now, all that was needed was to inject energy into the “activation rune” to activate this magic formation.
However, Angel didn’t activate it immediately; instead, he stretched lazily, took a close look at the runes, and, filled with a sense of accomplishment, walked out of the ruins.
Naturally, Angel went to call Tree Spirit.
He could activate the magic formation alone, but to be safe, he called Tree Spirit as well. If any problem arose, Tree Spirit could quickly notify Rhine, preventing Angel from falling into danger.
After a while, the avatar of Tree Spirit entered the ruins with Angel.
Tree Spirit was excited; his main body couldn’t move and rarely participated in adventures or mysteries. He was naturally curious about a secret-laden ruin within his range of perception radius.
Now, likely to get an answer on the door, how could it not be thrilled?
“The magic formation has been perfectly restored; I reckon even a rune wizard wouldn’t find any faults,” commented Tree Spirit after inspecting the magic formation. Though not skilled in inscribing runes himself, his discernment in assessing the quality of magic formations was unquestionable.
“Shall I begin the activation?” Angel proposed, readying to activate the triggering rune.
“Wait, let me do it,” Tree Spirit interjected, not out of concern for Angel’s safety, but purely driven by his desire to unravel the mystery of the ruin first.
It didn’t matter who did the activation. Angel nodded and stepped aside.
Despite seizing the right to activate, Tree Spirit didn’t immediately proceed. Instead, he released a leaf that transformed into countless green tendrils of light in mid-air, resembling sprouting branches, rapidly weaving through the corridor and into every room of the ruin.
These green tendrils, his branch feelers, allowed him to sense real-time changes in his surroundings. He spread them throughout the ruin to observe any changes within the interior once the door’s rune was activated, especially to see if any hidden rooms would reveal themselves.
After ensuring everything was in order, Tree Spirit nodded at Angel, and the green tendrils slowly extended towards the triggering rune.
As Tree Spirit infused energy into the triggering rune, the previously dim magic formation instantly lit up.
The magic formation was evidently activated successfully!
Both Tree Spirit and Angel awaited the subsequent events with bated breath, Tree Spirit spreading his consciousness across each tendril, ready for any potential anomalies…
However, to their surprise.
There was no change whatsoever.
The magic formation is just as Angel initially surmised: it’s a defensive magic formation. Although activated and indeed successful, its function is purely defensive, remaining passive unless attacked.
“Could it be… that a trigger is needed to reveal it?” Tree Spirit, looking at the glowing magic formation on the door, suggested to Angel.
“Does Lord Tree Spirit mean that an intruder needs to breach the ruin, triggering the defense mechanism, and rather than retaliating, the ruin reveals a hidden room instead?”
Tree Spirit pondered, “… Perhaps, the hidden room is perilous, designed to lure intruders in.”
“If the hidden room is indeed perilous, it’s unlikely there’d be an exit.” Angel responded, having previously inferred the existence of a hidden passage, thus confirming there’s a way out of the hidden room.
“Regardless, we should still try to activate it first.” Tree Spirit was keen to try triggering the mechanism.
Angel thought for a moment, approached the magic formation, and said, “The trigger rune I repaired earlier seemed highly dangerous, but it shouldn’t hold any deceit. Let me check again.”
Angel crouched down, meticulously observing each pattern on the door, focusing not on the runes he repaired but on those that were originally remaining.
Seeing Angel so intently studying the runes, Tree Spirit said nothing more, simply waiting behind him.
Angel extended his finger, tracing the air along each rune.
As time ticked by, when Angel reached a corner of the rune, he suddenly paused.
“Ah, this part… seems to have a repeated connectivity rune?”
