Inside Ocean Theatre.
Babaya and two others, following a boy with a childish voice, arrived at an office behind the theater.
“Jon, they are here.” Alda approached the desk and respectfully bowed.
Jon raised his head, first smiled at Alda, indicating he could leave, then turned his gaze to the two little ones and wild looking Baruba across from him.
Jon scrutinized them for a moment and curved his lips into a smile: “Are you the assistants Angel brought?”
Faced with Jon’s smile, Baruba felt nothing and nodded in acknowledgment.
Babaya and Kudou, however, felt a chill down their spines. For some reason, they felt Jon’s gaze on them was very strange.
Although as members of the Kulakuka tribe, they were often gawked at, other people’s gazes were merely curious. But this elder’s gaze was not only curious but seemed to have an additional… probing quality.
“Never thought I’d see a real-life Thumbelina in my lifetime, what an interesting world.” Jon whispered to himself, his gaze on Babaya and Kudou becoming even more ‘friendly.’
“Mr. Jon, previously Freud told us to come to you, saying you would arrange a task for us, may I know what it is?” Baruba asked in a low voice.
“Freud just told me, you’re Baruba? You’re in charge of a construction task?” Jon’s gaze shifted to Baruba, whose skin was slightly darkened.
Baruba’s first thought was: When did Freud inform Jon?
However, quickly, Baruba brushed aside the thought, perhaps Freud used a communication spell? Regardless of how Jon was informed, it was a good thing that Jon knew their information, saving the time for introductions.
“Yes.”
After receiving Baruba’s confirmation, Jon pondered, “Your task is to build a new city. However, it will be some time before the new city officially begins construction, so for these few days, familiarize yourself with the planning blueprints of the new city… As for the specific blueprints, I’ll give them to you later.”
Baruba nodded. Although he didn’t yet know what “new city” meant, it sounded like a construction mission. As long as it’s a construction task with blueprints, he should be able to handle it.
After Jon finished instructing Baruba, his gaze turned to Babaya and Kudou.
“As for your two missions, I’ll have Popoca acquaint you with them later. However, before you get familiar with the missions, I’m very curious about your identities…” Jon said with a smile, “How about we chat?”
Jon’s smile sent a shiver down the spines of the two youngsters. They had felt something off about Jon’s gaze from the beginning, and now it wasn’t just odd but somewhat terrifying!
In Babaya and Kudou’s minds, Jon had transformed from a kindly old man they first met into a sinister doctor with a dark background. Even the slight smile at the corner of his mouth seemed to carry a hint of blood.
“Jo-Jon, Mr. Jon…” Kudou stammered, “Are you a Karabian?”
Kudou had heard that Karabians were a race extremely curious about life, fond of studying biology, and with unpleasant personalities. “Grafting Lunatic” Dongula and “Basket Witch” Summer Dew were Karabians, and these two witches were known for their love of research and cruel nature.
So, when Kudou heard Jon’s words, he subconsciously supplemented his imagination about the other’s race.
“Karabians, I’ve heard of this race, but I’ve never seen one. Actually, I’m wise… well, according to your terms, a Knower,” Jon explained, and then asked, “Why, are you curious about what race I belong to?”
Hearing that Jon wasn’t a Karabian, Kudou slightly relaxed, but still looked at him warily, “No, not really. It’s just that you seem like someone who loves to study and research.”
Jon stroked his chin and nodded, “That’s true, I am studying you now, aren’t I?”
Kudou was stunned!
Research! He indeed wanted to study them!
Kudou had heard in Mission Hall that “Microcosmic World” Dulmatin often conducted experiments by taking brains, and almost none of his assistants escaped the fate of being studied. Therefore, Kudou never dared to touch Dulmatin’s tasks, no matter how rich the rewards were.
But now, to his tearful despair, although he had escaped from Dulmatin, it seemed he had entered into Jon’s magical net!
From his tone, could it be that he wanted to dissect them?
Kudou’s mind had already begun to imagine all kinds of cruel scenarios, and before Jon even spoke, he had already scared himself pale.
“Don’t just ask me, you two should answer my questions too.” Perhaps Jon, seeing people the size of a thumb for the first time, was very surprised and didn’t notice the complex feelings of Kudou and Babaya.
“We, we… actually, are just very ordinary, yes, extremely ordinary race, and our population is very small, almost extinct…” Kudou, with a mournful face, tried every excuse to dissuade Jon from his “research.”
However, no matter what Kudou said, Jon looked at him with a smiling, devilish gaze, as if pondering the best way to stew them in a pot.
Just as Kudou felt he was about to fall into a dark abyss, Jon suddenly paused.
He then pulled out a strange branch from a drawer.
Everyone present could feel an odd vibration emanating from the branch. They could receive the signals from the vibration, but no one could decipher its content.
Jon looked up at the three people across from him, noticing their gaze fixed on the branch in his hand. He frowned and murmured, “Although the signal reception is amplified, the privacy has decreased. I need to be mindful of this and will discuss it with Popoca later.”
Then, Jon pressed the branch to his forehead.
While the others looked on in confusion, Jon maintained this position for about two or three minutes before slowly lowering the branch and revealing a regretful expression.
“Just now, Angel told me to send you three out of town. Your task will be arranged after you return.”
Kudou and Babaya’s eyes suddenly lit up, eager to leave the place, and to their surprise, their wish was about to come true!
Their delight was fully evident on their faces, even overlooking the latter part of Jon’s words.
Baruba, however, was expressionless, pondering over Jon’s statements. Jon had directly addressed Lord Pat by name twice in a row… This indicated that Jon’s status was certainly not inferior to Lord Pat’s.
Someone of similar or even higher status than Lord Pat in the Wizarding World should be well-known. Why then, as he scoured his memory for famous faces, could he not match any with Jon?
Who exactly was he?
Moreover, Baruba noticed that Jon received the message through a twig.
That twig, seemingly devoid of any extraordinary fluctuations, how could it transmit signals? Previously, when Freud communicated with Jon, was it also through that twig?
Baruba also recalled a moment in Tree Spirit Hall when Angel mentioned studying information exchange. Could this tree branch be what that information exchange referred to?
