Chapter 718 Lucas's Captain's Log <TOC> Chapter 720 The Beauty Naya

After much thought, Angel went to the fourth floor, which originally belonged to Roman.
After Roman’s death, Angel had come here to see if there were any leftover items. However, aside from some books on maritime life, the place was almost empty. Most of these books were written by ordinary people. It seemed that when Roman left, he took everything valuable with him.
Angel returned here because he remembered seeing a book about the Devil’s Sea here.
On a black wooden cabinet, Angel found a thick, gray, leather-bound book: —The Sea of Devils—
“Found it.” Angel’s eyes lit up. The book didn’t have an author listed, but on the back right side of the cover, there was a clear line of text: White Shell Shipping Universal Edition.
Obviously, this book was an internal publication of the White Shell Shipping Company, describing their knowledge and understanding of the Devil’s Sea.
Angel sat down and began to flip through the book, page by page.
This thick tome had more than 300 pages, and it took Angel half a day to finish reading it.
He gained a basic understanding of the general routes through the Devil’s Sea and the areas that had already been explored. He also learned about unexplored and mysterious areas, such as the Gear Abyss, where ships mysteriously vanished, the Long Beach Valley Strait, filled with large beasts, and the Song of the Sea, where sea monsters gathered, and so on.
However, after going through the entire book, Angel still hadn’t found any information related to the records in Lucas’s diary.
Could it be that Lucas’s diary was really fabricated?
But his ship was so strange and incongruous, appearing and disappearing mysteriously.
Unable to find any information or make sense of it, Angel called for Helen: “Deputy Captain Helen, you’ve spent a long time in the Devil’s Sea. Have you ever heard of a sea full of flowers?”
Helen was taken aback, completely unprepared for Angel’s sudden, out-of-context question.
“Sir Wizard, are you talking about a Sea of Flowers on an island?”
Angel: “No, it’s on the surface of the sea.”
Helen muttered “Sea of Flowers, surface of the sea,” and searched her memory. After a while, she shook her head and said, “I haven’t heard of any Sea of Flowers. However, the Devil’s Sea is vast, and many places are still unexplored. Perhaps I’m just not well-informed.”
Angel nodded, “I see, you can go now.”
After Helen left, Angel pursed his lips. He would have to be insane to believe that the diary was real!
Angel’s fingers ignited in flames, and he was tempted to burn the parchment scroll.
However, after a moment of silence, he extinguished the flame on his fingertip, sighed, and threw the scroll into his bracelet, “Although it’s a liar’s diary, it comes from a strange ship. It might be useful in the future, so I’ll keep it.”
After rolling up the parchment, Angel took out the blueprint he had designed earlier, intending to make a sample within the next few days.
As Angel immersed himself in his research once more, Helen arrived at the ship’s dining hall.
By the time she entered, most of the sailors had already finished their meals, with only a few people still eating.
Helen accepted the plate handed over by the chef, found a random seat, and began eating. Her speed was fast, as in the Devil’s Sea, every second held the potential for unexpected events. She didn’t dare to savor the food, merely filling her stomach with it. Despite that, the food tasted quite good.
As Helen wolfed down her meal, two people suddenly sat down opposite her.
Alvin and his deputy.
“Captain, haven’t you eaten yet?” Helen asked curiously. She had seen Alvin go to the dining hall when Sir Pat called her away. She hadn’t expected him to be eating only now.
“I went to check on our freshwater supply. In the foggy area these past few days, there’s been no rain, causing our freshwater resources to dwindle. I don’t know how long we can hold out.” Alvin sighed, “We originally planned to replenish our freshwater at Silver Palm Island. Alas, who would have thought that Silver Palm Island would be occupied by a monster?”
Before Alvin could finish speaking, his young deputy sneered, “Even more unexpected was that Sir Roman, whom we trusted, would harbor the intention to wreck our ship and kill us. A true ingrate. No wonder he met his demise under the claws of a monster.”
“Drew, be quiet!” Alvin sternly reprimanded, “Although Sir Roman’s actions this time were indeed inappropriate, he has saved the Cloud Conch many times before. If it weren’t for him, the Cloud Conch might have already sunk.”
Drew, his deputy, was only eighteen years old, originally just a village boy. Due to his sensitive judgment of sea weather changes, he was brought on board the Cloud Conch and became Alvin’s deputy.
Drew pouted and complained, “Captain Alvin, you’re just too kind-hearted. Everyone on the ship thinks so. If it weren’t for Sir Pat saving us, we would all be dead… If we should thank anyone, it should be Sir Pat. He is our true benefactor.”
Alvin wanted to say something, but Helen interrupted, “Captain, Drew has a point. All of Roman’s previous actions towards the Cloud Conch were due to the arrangement of the White Shell Shipping Company. Protecting the Cloud Conch was his responsibility. His act of luring us to Silver Palm Island was dereliction of duty, even a plot to take our lives and fortune. With evidence recorded, his guilt is undeniable.”
Drew raised both hands in the air, “Long live Deputy Captain Helen!”
Drew secretly gave Helen a flirtatious wink, but she scolded him under her breath: immature kid.
Alvin couldn’t help but chuckle before turning serious, “Let’s not argue about this. As for the freshwater issue, if it doesn’t rain soon, we’ll be in trouble.”
“Maybe we should ask Sir Pat for help,” Drew suggested.
“If it’s possible to trouble Sir Pat less, then let’s do so. After all, Sir Pat isn’t a member of the White Shell Shipping Company; his help is a favor, not an obligation,” said Alvin. As he spoke, he suddenly remembered something, “Helen, I recall Sir Pat called you over earlier; was there something?”
Helen responded noncommittally, “He asked me a strange question and then let me leave.”
“A question?” Drew’s eyes lit up, “Was it about the ghost ship just now? Can you reveal it, Deputy Captain Helen?”
“You just want to brag about it below deck, don’t you?” Helen knew Drew’s personality well. Though they were both grown men, their years at sea had left them with childlike dispositions, quite unlike the mature and gentle demeanor of Sir Pat.
“Hehe,” Drew scratched his head with a grin, “Captain Nagi was asking me about it earlier, and I’m curious too.”
“No, Sir Pat didn’t mention the ghost ship; he asked me another question,” Helen said before turning to Alvin, “Captain, have you ever heard of a sea that blooms with flowers? I mean, flowers blooming on the surface of the sea.”
“Is that the question Sir Pat asked you?” Alvin pondered after getting a confirmation from Helen, “A Sea of Flowers? I don’t think I’ve ever heard of such a thing.”
“I haven’t either, so Sir Pat let me leave,” Helen shrugged, “Perhaps it’s an event from an extraordinary world that we ordinary people wouldn’t know about. It’s normal.”
They continued to eat and drink soup.
Once the plates were collected, the three left the dining hall together and headed toward the command room.
“Drew, you seemed preoccupied during the meal; what were you thinking about?” Helen asked, curious about Drew, who was still lost in his thoughts.
Drew rubbed his chin, “I was thinking about the question Deputy Captain Helen mentioned earlier.”
“My question? About the Sea of Flowers?” Helen asked doubtfully, her face disbelieving, “Do you really know about a Sea of Flowers?”
Drew shook his head, “I haven’t heard of it, but I remember hearing a legend when I was a child in our fishing village.”
…
The mature and gentle Pat, as praised by Helen, had just finished a glass of milk at this moment. As he enjoyed the aftertaste, he unconsciously bit the penholder of his quill and shook it up and down.
Upon hearing someone knocking at the door, Angel quickly put away the milk, hurriedly set down the quill pen, and assumed the appearance of being engrossed in research.
Helen brought Drew to Angel’s side.
Angel raised an eyebrow, wearing a cold, indifferent expression as if being disturbed, “What is it?”
Helen was somewhat nervous, hesitating, “Sir Pat, I apologize for the interruption. I came because Drew mentioned a rumor about the Sea of Flowers you asked about earlier. However, it’s just a legend and not always a Sea of Flowers. So, I’m not sure if it’s what you want to know, but I brought him anyway.”
Angel’s brow furrowed, looking at the somewhat tense young man, “You’ve heard about the Sea of Flowers?”
Drew shook his head, “I only heard a rumor from my grandmother. I don’t know if it’s the Sea of Flowers you mentioned.”
Angel put away the drawings on the table and crossed his arms, “No matter, tell me, and I’ll judge.”
“When I was a child, my grandmother would tell me bedtime stories. Since she was illiterate, she didn’t know many stories. So, she kept retelling the same few stories, one of which was called —The Beauty Naya—.”
“The story was simple. Beautiful Naya was a viscountess from the Flashing Silver Era. She was kind and beautiful, with a perfect husband. But her jealous twin sister plotted to ruin her beauty and sent her to a slave ship after drugging her. The twin sister disguised herself as Naya and took over her life.”
“From then on, Beautiful Naya became Ugly Naya. Filled with grief, she wept on the ship every day. Eventually, she couldn’t bear it any longer and decided to jump into the sea to end her life. As she tearfully recounted her story on the ship’s rail to the other slaves, her tears fell into the ocean, blooming a vibrant Sea of Flowers. In the end, she jumped into the sea, turned into foam, and the Sea of Flowers disappeared with her.”
