Chapter 964 The Blue Eyerift Inland Sea <TOC> Chapter 966 Staring Abyss

“The Eye of Judgment?” Angel queried, his brow knit in confusion, as he turned to look at Madeline.
Madeline’s expression at this moment was rather grim. The feeling of being observed, which Angel had earlier detected, wasn’t his alone; everyone present, including Madeline herself, shared the same sensation.
Perhaps amongst everyone on the Wings of Cold Frost, only Sineva could evade the scrutiny of the Eye of Judgment.
The discomfort of feeling stripped bare under such observation would unsettled anyone.
“The entrance to Sin World is located within a submarine volcano in the Blue Eyerift Inland Sea. Therefore, a vast number of individuals from the Extreme Sect are present here.” Madeline cast a glance at the shimmering ocean in the distance. Beneath its calm surface, it concealed an entryway to a dependent world.
That portal led to the stronghold of the Extreme Sect—Sin World.
“The primary mission of the Extreme Sect is to suppress and expel all otherworldly creatures. Domain Island is a nexus between worlds, it wouldn’t be left unattended by the Extreme Sect.” Madeline explained, “Many wizards would smuggle otherworldly slaves, and the Eye of Judgment they’ve set up is to detect concealed otherworldly auras.”
As she spoke, Madeline suddenly remembered a rumor: “I’ve heard that the reason your mentor caught the attention of Lord Mengke is that the Eye of Judgment couldn’t penetrate into the interior of the Wizard Garden.”
An epiphany struck Angel, as he indeed had heard of this rumor before.
Moreover, during his time in the Savage Grottoes, he had heard another rumor from David. The reason why Sanders didn’t reject Lord Mengke’s invitation was partly due to Mengke’s directive to other wizard organizations, prohibiting them from wreaking havoc in the Savage Grottoes when Sanders was establishing his Wizard Garden.
Indeed, Sanders’ rationale for not refusing was far more complex than meets the eye, riddled with a labyrinth of personal relationships and sentiments.
Suddenly, a hoary voice echoed from behind—
“It isn’t just the Eye of Judgment. The previous peal of the bells was the work of the Extreme Sect as well, a sonorous exorcism.”
Turning his head, Angel saw that the newcomer was Velite. Stooped and leaning on a cane, with a plump sand rat clearing the way for him.
“Lord Velite,” Angel greeted, promptly stepping back, eyes flashing with caution.
He clearly remembered Piers’ words, Velite might already suspect that he had been tagged by the Time Thief. The implication of being marked by the Time Thief was profound. Other marked ones were all full-fledged wizards, so they were difficult for others to interfere with, but as a mere apprentice, he had to tread carefully.
Velite also noticed Angel’s wary gaze, but his expression remained unchanged, and with a genial smile, he continued, “The exorcism bell does us no harm, on the contrary, it can exorcise all negative spirits. However, for creatures not native to this world, it turns into a lethal song, even killing the slightly weaker extraterrestrial beings after thirteen tolls of the exorcism bell.”
As Velite spoke, Angel was suddenly reminded of the time when he had escaped from Bruen’s alchemy workshop.
He recalled that his successful departure was due to some disturbance in the mysterious compartment in the workshop after the bell rang, and Bruen had to attend to it…
If what Velite suggested were true—that the bell could suppress non-native creatures.
Could it mean that the creature in that mysterious compartment was an extraterrestrial?
As Angel was lost in thought, a tumultuous commotion echoed from afar.
Turning to the source, he saw a horde donning holy armor encircling a single wizard. Behind the armored men, a middle-aged man clad in holy prayer robes was murmuring something under his breath.
Before long, a sparkling radiance emanated from the wizard’s earring.
Perplexed, Angel was trying to comprehend the situation when Velite beside him, chuckling, clarified, “Seems like someone’s been carrying a creature from another world on their person.”
Angel glanced at Velite, his lips sealed.
Yet, Velite curiously inquired, “You seem to have a bone to pick with me, why is that?”
With a dry chuckle, Angel retorted, “Not at all.”
“Is it something Piers said?” Velite edged closer, a cryptic glint in his eyes, “Is it about Cassi…”
Madeline abruptly stepped forward, blocking Velite’s intrusive approach, and then nonchalantly suggested,
“Angel, come wander through Domain Island’s wizard market with me. Although the Extreme Sect suppresses it, it’s still close to the Abyss and occasionally you can find rare treasures from the deep.”
With those words, she cast a penetrating glance at Velite, then swiftly turned and strode away.
Angel promptly fell into step behind her.
Velite merely offered a nonchalant smile, making no effort to follow. He had already received a message from Gauss and his visit this time was merely to indirectly probe a bit.
Angel followed Madeline to the market on the island, but they hadn’t gotten far when they felt an intense surge of energy from nearby.
“Danger!” Madeline’s pupils contracted as she swiftly grabbed Angel and whisked them both into the air, a hundred meters above ground.
Right after their departure, a wave of energy ripples appeared at their former location, causing sand and dust to billow, and the ground to collapse. Numerous wizard apprentices suffered heavy injuries as they were unable to evade in time.
Astonishment filled Angel’s eyes, realizing that the magnitude of the energy clash was at least at the level of a wizard!
Inevitably, from his bird’s-eye view, Angel discerned the epicenter of the energy fluctuations. It was being released by the same wizard who had previously been encircled by the armored men, who was now confronting a man in a sacred robe.
Madeline, after observing for a moment, quickly discerned the situation. Seeing Angel’s curiosity, she explained, “The man in the black sacred robe is a bishop of the Extreme Sect. The Eye of Judgment earlier detected the presence of otherworldly creatures in the wizard’s space, the bishop commanded him to open the space. However, they apparently failed to reach an agreement.”
Angel empathetically nodded his agreement: if it were him, he too would resist if others insisted on inspecting his bracelet space.
However, Madeline then said, “But this standoff won’t last long.”
As Angel was contemplating this, he saw the bishop of the Extreme Sect almost instantly subdue the wizard, forcing him to open his bracelet space.
The bishop extracted several trembling palm-sized fairies from the bracelet space, directly crushing them to pulp on the spot, then left with a cold chuckle.
“Those who become bishops of the Extreme Sect must undoubtedly be wizards of true knowledge. Ordinary wizards are virtually powerless against them,” Madeline concluded. Glancing at the wizard below whose expression was darkening, she couldn’t help but shake her head, “It seems he hasn’t been a wizard for very long, otherwise he should know that bringing creatures from other planes near Domain Island is strictly forbidden.”
Angel’s gaze also landed on the wizard, but his expression was not as relaxed as Madeline’s.
Looking at the pool of blood not far away, the brilliant red was strikingly conspicuous, which made Angel inadvertently think of Jon.
If Jon was discovered by people from the Extreme Sect, the consequences might be even worse. There would be no need for the bishop to take action; the previous exorcism sound alone would be enough to completely disperse Jon.
A sense of sorrow for another’s misfortune echoed in Angel’s heart.
While Angel was lost in his thoughts, beams of light suddenly radiated from behind him. Against the backlight, the edges of Angel’s skin were outlined in gold.
He hesitated for a moment before turning around.
Behind him stood the Wings of Cold Frost.
Now, the Wings of Cold Frost shimmered with resplendent luminescence. This radiant glow was akin to the one that flashed when the wizard was discovered to harbor a creature from another world within his spatial confines.
Simultaneously, the erstwhile departed bishop clad in black robes unexpectedly swung his gaze back, fixing his eyes upon the Wings of Cold Frost.
“Frost Moon Alliance, hopefully this time we can grasp some leverage against you,” the bishop cloaked in black muttered under his breath, then soared up into the heavens without a moment’s hesitation, setting his sights firmly upon the Wings of Cold Frost.
……
Bruen’s alchemy workshop.
Bruen was panting heavily, mopping his brow incessantly. It took a good while for him to compose himself before he addressed the figure standing at the doorway of his partition, “Thank goodness for your help. Otherwise, that creature would have definitely run amok…”
Having said this, Bruen let out a sigh, “Last time, I got caught unawares and fell asleep due to that creature inside, completely losing track of time. Imagine my surprise when I woke up and found that we had already arrived at Domain Island! And then, we encountered the Exorcist’s Song.”
“Surprised? What do you mean surprised?” The figure at the door coldly huffed, “How come I heard that you were harboring inappropriate thoughts about Angel and lost track of time as a result?”
Bruen’s face turned a little awkward as he stammered, “We are both men, how could I possibly harbor any inappropriate thoughts?”
“Really?” The figure at the doorway turned around, revealing a head full of frosty hair and eyes that burnt like a roaring flame. It was ‘Wild Witch’ Sineva.
Sineva sauntered over to the operating table, gently brushed her hand across it and found Angel’s pheromones still lingering there.
Caught red-handed, Bruen had no option but to grin sheepishly, “But, I didn’t lay a finger on him, did I?”
“Why on earth did you have to provoke him? Let me warn you, if he sustains any damage on the Wings of Cold Frost, neither Lord Rhine nor his mentor will let you off easily.”
Bruen lamented, “I didn’t have any intention to cause any trouble. I was just curious when I noticed an illusion cast on his right hand… So, I used my Law-Breaking Eye to look beneath the illusion, only to find out that his right hand was significantly larger than his left, and there was a layer of peculiar green runes covering his right hand.”
“That peculiar green rune seemed to be imbued with a mysterious power. Furthermore, the moment I closed my eyes, the image of the green rune would immediately fade from memory. At the time, I was curious and considered extracting a portion for research… I truly had no intentions of killing him—I’m not that foolish!”
Bruen was deliberate in mentioning the green rune on Angel’s right hand, in hope that it would pique Sineva’s curiosity. If Sineva were to assist him in his endeavor, perhaps they could successfully remove a piece of flesh.
However, Sineva showed no interest in the so-called “green rune.”
Each wizard possesses a unique area of expertise, which has given rise to a variety of special spells. Furthermore, new spells are continuously being created. Surely, it’s not reasonable to incorporate every unknown aspect one encounters into one’s repertoire?
They ought to consider whether their own framework is suitable.
“Had you directed the curiosity you harbor towards others’ secrets towards the exploration of your own path, you might have ascended to the rank of a true knowledge wizard by now,” Sineva remarked sarcastically.
The title of true knowledge wizard is thus, for they tread their unique path.
Sineva perceived Angel’s green rune as a private spell exclusive to Angel.
One would be better served considering their own path rather than scrutinizing that of others.
Stung by Sineva’s sarcastic comment, Bruen felt deflated and was about to retort. However, just then, the Eye of Judgment from the Extreme Sect swept over the Wings of Cold Frost.
The very next second, an intense brilliance emanated from the partition behind Sineva.
Bruen was momentarily stunned—how could he not understand the gravity of this situation? Undoubtedly, the individual hidden within the partition had been detected by the Eye of Judgment… Furthermore, they were near the headquarters of the Extreme Sect. He would be overmatched should any of them confront him, never mind a bishop.
With this in mind, Bruen turned towards Sineva, a look of panic etched across his face.
Sineva remained expressionless. “I warned you earlier, these fanatics are keeping watch here, I told you to hide better, but you didn’t listen. Now, do you understand the urgency?”
“I’ll be more careful next time, if there is a next time…” Bruen implored pitifully, looking towards Sineva.
After a moment of silence, Sineva finally said, “Just this once.”
