The idiom “thunder is loud, but little rain falls” is an apt description of the Extreme Sect’s scrutiny of the Wings of Cold Frost.
The bishop in black robes led nearly a dozen sect guards onto the Wings of Cold Frost, only to come away empty-handed. Facing Sineva’s assertiveness, the bishop had no choice but to admit defeat. It had not crossed his mind that this time, the Wild Witch would also be aboard the Wings of Cold Frost.
Sineva is nearly at the pinnacle of the Southern Region’s Wizarding World, and despite the bishop’s level of true knowledge, he is no match for her.
His only option was to leave in disappointment.
“Sineva’s tactics indeed surpass those of the Extreme Sect,” Madeline sighs, “However, we must look at the broader picture. The reason why the Extreme Sect is troublesome stems from their audacity and the favor they receive from the World Will. Sineva’s current dominance doesn’t mean she can truly stand against the Extreme Sect. After this incident, the Extreme Sect will undoubtedly scrutinize Frost Moon with even more vigor.” Madeline sighs, “After all, the Extreme Sect wields… justice.”
A sarcastic chuckle slipped through Madeline’s lips as she uttered “justice.”
“Let’s go take a look at the market. If there’s anything you need, take this opportunity to stock up. Once we reach the Abyss, it won’t be so easy to find a well-stocked supply chain,” Madeline directed, heading towards the center of Domain Island.
Angel followed her, but halfway through, he looked back at the Wings of Cold Frost in the sky.
The gargantuan creature, flapping its colossal white wings, carrying a shimmering iceberg, glistening in the afternoon sun.
“Is the otherworldly creature seen by the Eye of Judgment… the one from the alchemy workshop?” Angel pondered.
Regardless, an impression was left in Angel’s mind—if he had Sineva’s power, he would fear no other forces. In the world of wizards, power ultimately reigns supreme.
The wizard market on Domain Island is called “Staring Abyss.”
The Staring Abyss market is somewhat desolate, with nearly all of the shops being magically created buildings huddled together, giving off an aura of temporary construction.
“The Staring Abyss market used to be busier than most wizard markets because so many wizards ventured into the Abyss. Even if they couldn’t bring back otherworldly slaves, going there to cultivate their bloodline and search for precious magical materials was a popular choice for many wizards,” Madeline reminisced about her time in the Silian family. She too had once ventured into the Abyss to search for a suitable bloodline, an adventure she would remember for a lifetime.
“However, today, the Abyss has taken a turn, and at this critical juncture, the number of those brave enough to venture into the Abyss has dwindled. Hence, the marketplace of the Staring Abyss has become desolate.”
As Madeline elucidated, she was also guiding Angel around the market. Yet, neither of them bought anything. Since they knew they were bound for the Abyss, they naturally prepared their supplies during their time in the Savage Grottoes. Though this place is a supply station, the prices were astronomical.
In the end, Madeline bought a hooded dress. Its base color was black, adorned with neon green lines. The design was far from aesthetically pleasing, instead imparting a sensation of savagery and rupture.
“The green lines on this are the blood of a high-ranking Bone Winged Demon,” Madeline explained. “I have heard that Liana gave you a bottle of Kunsha Flower Fragrance? This dress has the same purpose as that fragrance, they’re both used to repel demons.”
Madeline unabashedly slipped the hooded dress on right away. Regardless of the unimpressive appearance of the dress, when Madeline wore it, she resembled a demonic shadow emerging from the abyssal depths. The green lines on the black dress subtly glowed and undulated, looking both sickening and horrifying, yet paradoxically beautiful in a fallen way.
Not long after Madeline changed into the hooded dress, an icy voice descended from the heavens, reverberating through every corner of Domain Island.
“The interdimensional passage will open shortly. Those who seek the Abyss, come to the Staring Abyss Cliff.”
As the voice faded, an astonishing scene unfolded across the entirety of Domain Island; virtually every person took to the sky, converging towards the cliffs on the shadowy side of the island.
Even in the marketplace where Angel and Madeline were, people began to fly out of nearly every house.
“Are all these people heading to the Abyss?” Angel asked, puzzled. He even saw the witch who had sold the dress to Madeline soaring towards the cliff.
“No,” Madeline shook her head, her tone growing soft and unhurried. “They’re there to bid farewell.”
Without explaining what she meant by ‘farewell’, Madeline glanced back at Angel, “We should also be on our way.”
They launched themselves into the sky, basking in the warm sun, riding the sea breeze, skimming the clouds, and eventually landing on the cliff platform, following the flight paths of all the others.
Upon landing, Angel was immediately struck by curiosity, observing his surroundings.
Those on the Wings of Cold Frost, apart from the workers, were all present on the platform.
Nevertheless, rather than the sparse transcendent beings on the platform, more people were soaring in mid-air. According to Madeline, all those in the sky were there to bid farewell.
The multitude, densely clustered, filled the entire firmament.
It was a dark mass where no one spoke. It didn’t seem like a farewell, causing Angel to mistakenly feel as if they were at a funeral procession.
At that moment, a grotesque smile suddenly crossed Angel’s vision.
Somehow, the rotund figure of Bruen had sauntered up to Angel.
Before Angel could utter a word, Madeline raised a brow and jumped in, “Bruen, what brings you here?”
In response to Madeline’s suspicion, Bruen only returned a benign smile, “I just wanted to have a chat with Angel. An unexpected event occurred before, so I couldn’t play the proper host.”
As he spoke, Bruen looked at Angel, a hint of aggrieved innocence in his voice, “You left so abruptly, I didn’t have a chance to explain.”
Angel responded, “If I hadn’t left then, I might have fallen asleep again. Who knows if I would have been ‘heated up’ again.”
The answer in Bruen’s mind was, “Yes!”
However, he said out loud, “How could that be? I’m not a fool, to make a move against you on the Wings of Cold Frost is asking for death. Not to mention, you’re a great hero.”
Madeline snorted coldly, “Babbling on and on without saying anything of substance. Speak up. Are you here to apologize or to compensate?”
As a witch from the bloodline side, Madeline wasn’t afraid of Bruen at all. If Bruen hadn’t made a move on Angel, out of respect for the Alchemist, Madeline might have shown some respect, but now, there was no need to mince words.
Bruen stuttered a little, “I haven’t done anything to apologize or compensate for.”
Given Angel’s position and power, he wasn’t in a strong position to confront Bruen. Hence, Madeline decided to step in on his behalf, questioning Bruen, “Really? Right or wrong, you know in your heart…”
After a pause, Madeline continued, “Since you’re neither apologizing nor compensating, why are you here?”
Bruen hesitated for a moment and then said, “I just wanted to say that I have an experiment. I was hoping Angel might lend a hand.”
Madeline glanced back at Angel, this was not something she could answer on his behalf.
Angel confessed, “Regrettably, my breakthrough presently takes precedence and leaves me with little spare time.” Even if he had some to spare, the thought of returning to Bruen’s alchemy workshop was one he dared not entertain. Who could say whether this man would entertain wicked ideas once again?
Bruen took his leave with a sense of regret. Their ongoing experiment had progressed significantly and having Angel on hand would likely have expedited the process. Alas, Angel did not consent.
After Bruen’s departure, it wasn’t long before Sineva descended onto the front of the cliff platform. The cliff and the vast ocean stretched out behind her.
Sineva’s gaze drifted over the gathered crowd, finally settling on the numerous wizard apprentices at the sidelines. She uttered dispassionately, “The Abyss is far from a place of delight. I offer you one last opportunity; if anyone wishes to depart, now is the time.”
Apprentices glanced at one another, yet none chose to leave. Most of these apprentices had willingly accepted their missions at the front line, eager to stake their lives on this venture; it was unthinkable for them to abandon it now.
“As no one seems inclined to retreat, let us prepare for the interdimensional teleportation.” Sineva tersely uttered, then turned towards the cliff’s edge, conjuring an arcane spell with a mere touch.
A vague shadow materialized on the other side of the cliff. The apparition was somewhat reminiscent of an illusion spell cast by a novice, or perhaps an energy-deficient holographic image, characterized by a noticeable blurriness.
The shadow gradually took form; though still somewhat obscure, it was clear that it represented an elegant woman standing, hands clasped at her navel.
The woman’s face wasn’t discernible in detail, yet the long locks suggested that it was indeed a female. She was attired in a drab brown-grey woolen dress, reminiscent of a medieval nun’s attire, appearing worn and simple.
“Florentina, good afternoon,” greeted Sineva.
The woman identified as Florentina courteously curtsied in response, “Ah, it’s Lady Sineva.”
Not only was her attire reminiscent of a bygone era, but her manner of salutation, too, echoed ancient etiquette. Even her speech, complete with its rhythm and pauses, oozed an inherent classic elegance.
“Florentina, what’s the status of Emberstone Titan now?” queried Sineva.
Florentina replied, “It’s not promising. The Scythe Wielding Blood Demon has already led a large army, including the Butcher, Scorpion Woman, and Fire Lich… to attack the Three Wheels.”
“The Scythe Wielding Blood Demon? How did they discover the location of Emberstone Titan?” asked Sineva in perplexity.
“An apprentice from Gravity Forest was taken by them. By deduction, he is likely the one who leaked the location of Emberstone Titan,” explained Florentina.
Sineva’s brows knitted together, her gaze subtly sweeping over the figure clad in a dark green wizard’s robe standing behind her.
This time, a wizard from Gravity Forest had also journeyed into the Abyss. Upon hearing Florentina’s words, his expression subtly faltered, revealing a touch of unease.
“Gravity Forest, always the stumbling block,” Sineva sneered. Seeing the discomfiture on the face of the Gravity Forest wizard, she continued, “How long can Emberstone Titan hold on?”
Despite the imminent catastrophe at hand, Florentina’s countenance displayed no hint of urgency. In her usual refined tone, she stated, “Less than half a day.”
Sineva’s visage turned slightly somber, “Understood. Light up the location beacon; I am preparing to open the interdimensional passage.”
“Understood.” With that, Florentina’s image abruptly vanished into thin air.
Sineva turned to the others, “You’ve all heard. Once we reach Emberstone Titan, a tough battle might be inevitable… I hope you can survive.”
However, the targets of Sineva’s words were not the full-fledged wizards, but rather the regret-filled apprentices on the other side.
