Chapter 1062 Spitting Out the Bones

Chapter 1061 The Panaces Succubus <TOC> Chapter 1063 Void Demon Seamus

The Panaces Succubus is the embodiment of envy, greed, and lust.

In a society defined by order, these reprehensible qualities would likely make her a classic example to be shackled and consumed by the flames of punishment. However, in the demon world, of all of her transgressions, being a Panaces Succubus instead becomes an integral part of her intriguing allure.

The more perverse, the more enticing she is. This isn’t merely the aesthetic perspective of demons, but even among a segment of virtuous humans, there’s a suppressed longing for such underlying desires.

“Affiliated with several major demons?” Angel looked at Canaan in surprise. After all, the major demons were at least equivalent to a second-level true knowledge wizard or above. Even in the demon city, they absolutely held a core position.

Canaan nodded, her expression showing lingering fear, “The reason I rang the chime just now…is because she has arrived…”

With other demons, even the regular mid-level demons, Canaan could receive them with a poker face, bolstered by the confidence imparted by Fafnir. But this Succubus named “Hai”, is exceedingly special in La Sutherland. Though she’s just a mid-level demon herself, she carries more than one mark of major demons. Disrespecting Hai would almost immediately be noticed by the major demons backing her.

Hearing Canaan’s introduction to Hai, Angel rubbed his temples in a somewhat troubled manner.

When he set up shop in La Sutherland, the last thing he wanted was a situation like this. He just wanted to earn some money peacefully from regular demons. He respectfully declined to deal with demons with major backing. For instance, the previous Young Fire Demon had also been a significant nuisance.

But given the circumstances, he had to come up with a solution.

Angel told Canaan, “You go and appease the other customers first. I’ll think of a way to handle this side.”

Canan yearned to interject, that the other patrons needed no placation. The demons, each and every one, lounging in the courtyard, their expressions riddled with the anticipation of an impending drama directed towards the dwelling, would certainly vouch for it. However, she was well aware, this was a matter far above the paygrade of a half-blood demon such as herself. She could only bow and retire to the sidelines.

Simultaneously, Angel was attuned to the commotion within the establishment, his mind diligently devising a potential resolution.

Meanwhile, within the confines of the establishment——

Although Hai maintained her customary grin, her gaze was no longer laced with frivolity. The dark-skinned woman facing her inspired a profound sense of oppression.

Assuming one were to differentiate by demonic hierarchy, this woman, who had labeled Hai “lowly”, would undoubtedly belong to the elite among Greater Demons.

She had previously heard rumors that this mysterious shop was a peculiar place, a native of the Abyss daring to run a business here, there must have been something backing them up. Could it be this woman, perhaps?

Hai’s eyes darted as her tongue flickered across her lips.

“I merely desired to savor the captivating taste of Odeklaes,” Hai coquettishly intoned, her eyes sparkling with mischief. “Why, pray tell, does this infuriate you?”

With a dismissive snort, Fafnir retorted, “Disgraceful succubus, refrain from discussing Odeklaes with your nauseating tone, else I will end you here and now.”

Fafnir’s words were intertwined with a boundless tempest of black wind.

In Hai’s eyes, the woman before her seemed to exude a colossal shadow, one of overwhelming might, resounding like a tremendous roar within the shadowy haze. Amidst the murk, eyes of otherworldly crimson and azure appeared on the shadow’s skull, reminiscent of the woman herself.

Hai found herself recoiling, several steps retreating under the terror of this overwhelming aura.

This creature was near invincible, on the brink of reaching the exalted realm of a ‘Lord’ level demon!

Initially, she had thought to intimidate her opponent with her trump cards and the prestige of several mighty demons. But now, it seemed nothing more than a farcical plot.

Even if those mighty demons were to band together, it seemed they would still be unable to rival this woman!

As Fafnir observed Hai, who had all but retreated to the wall, a hint of contempt flashed in her eyes. Just as she was about to utter some derisive remarks, Angel walked in from outside the door.

In an instant, both Fafnir and Hai’s gazes fell upon Angel.

Angel appeared composed on the outside, but only he knew that he was walking in here out of sheer bravado.

He could tell that Fafnir’s expression was the precursor to her “venomous tongue mode”. Once the poison-tongue cannon fired, if Hai retorted, it might lead to unpredictable consequences. Even if Hai didn’t retort verbally, merely resisting with her gaze would probably make Fafnir find all sorts of excuses to reprimand her.

On the other hand, Angel also noticed that Hai was not one to back down willingly. Especially in the presence of a woman who was superior in both power and stature, the jealousy-blinded Panaces Succubus, was unlikely to back down easily.

If a conflict truly broke out, the one who would face the hardest time in settling it would be Angel.

Therefore, he chose to step in at this moment.

First and foremost, Fafnir had vented some of her wrath, as though a volcano had belched out its scalding magma, thereby diffusing its fury. With reason guiding her path, and her position in the situation dominating like a chess grandmaster in control of the game board, she ought not to feel excessively peeved about Angel’s impending entry.

On the other hand, even if Hai felt somewhat boxed in, like a fox cornered by hounds, she should have, by now, come to the stark realization of the chasm of power between them. Knowing full well that to resist would be an act of folly, Angel’s entrance could conveniently serve as her diplomatic exit route, a bridge to her retreat from the field of contention.

Upon Angel’s arrival, Canaan’s expression was one of reverence in the courtyard, like an acolyte gazing upon her idol. Unconcerned with the flux of future circumstances, Canaan was simply awestruck by Angel’s audacity to stride forth into the thick of the tension, demonstrating a courage of astronomical proportions!

Canaan was always aware that Angel’s battle prowess was not lofty — forget about matching her, even Prapa of the Hunting Museum boasted greater strength than Angel. Yet, Canaan knew all too well that despite her superior strength, she would absolutely dare not intrude into the ossified atmosphere of the current situation.

This was not only Canaan’s sentiment. In the eyes of the demons gathered in the courtyard, Angel’s image had been significantly augmented, shimmering more brightly than before.

Angel may have harvested a bounty of admiration, but beneath his calm exterior, his heart mirrored the tumult of a stormy sea. He curbed his impulse to spin on his heels and flee, and instead, offered Fafnir a respectful bow.

Coming to Fafnir’s side, he used a discreet spell to whisper, “Fair Lady Fafnir, our stay here is not to be long, why waste your energy on this dispute…”

Angel mumbled a few phrases, then reiterated with emphasis that they would soon be returning to Ice Valley. Once back there, he assured that he would undoubtedly disseminate the tale of how Fafnir had defended the honour of Odeklaes.

Fafnir was, of course, crystal clear about Angel’s intentions, understanding that whether she would lay a finger on the succubus or not hinged on her fleeting whims.

Observing Angel’s flattery, despite knowing that Odeklaes might not be significantly swayed by Angel’s words, it was a fact that something was better than nothing. In the end, Fafnir gave a nod of approval, huffed at Hai, and parked herself by the window sill, declaring her position with an air of icy aloofness.

Having tamed Fafnir, Angel let out a subtle sigh of relief, a grin spreading across his face as he sauntered over to the bemused Hai, “Even in jest, my dear customer, one cannot wrangle a discount. If you wish to partake in the Voyage of Experience, you must settle the bill in advance.”

As he spoke, Angel snuck a glance at Fafnir behind him, ensuring she remained unfazed. Only then did he shift his focus back to Hai.

Caught in a state of stunned bewilderment, Hai seemed yet to have wrapped her head around the unfolding situation.

Angel narrowed his eyes. He had no intention of stirring up trouble, yet was unafraid should it arise. If Hai chose to remain obstinate, he wouldn’t stand in the way of Fafnir’s wrath. Regardless, if things did fall apart, he could escape, seeking refuge in Lord Night, armed with the remaining fragments of Firestone.

A moment of silence passed before Hai slowly regained her composure. As a Succubus, a social butterfly who had thrived amidst the circle of Greater Demons, she quickly discerned Angel’s intentions.

She composed herself, her previously flustered smile melting away. Her gaze at Angel now held a newfound brightness and admiration, “Very well.”

With Hai’s response, Angel finally breathed a sigh of relief. Turning to a visibly impressed Canaan, he instructed, “Canaan, go tally the outside patrons. We won’t wait for the rest this time, start the Voyage of Experience as soon as you’re done.”

Finishing his orders, Angel once again addressed Hai, “Three hundred pieces of demon gold, or alternatively, you may barter using the carcass of a high-level monster.”

Hai, with a playful flip of her pink hair, extended a slender finger, tapping Angel’s chest. An alluring smile danced on her lips as she took her seat back at the round table, “How about I pay with myself?”

As she spoke, the mouth on her forehead opened, its serpent-like tongue lashing out, tracing a path on Angel’s face.

The enchanting atmosphere was abruptly stifled by the emergence of a mouth, the edges lined with sharp teeth, on her forehead. Bracing against the revulsion, Angel retreated a step, asserting, “My apologies, this establishment does not accommodate alternate modes of payment.”

Hai retorted, “What a pity.”

Angel, however, did not share in this sentiment of regret.

“Since you’re interested in the remains of demon beasts, it just so happens that the other day, Iadase gifted me a carcass of one such creature. It had a fairly palatable taste, but it quickly grew tiresome. You’re welcome to have it if you’d like.”

As she spoke, the gaping maw on her forehead began to dilate, growing increasingly larger, dwarfing even the size of her head by several factors.

The spectacle was even more horrific than any extraterrestrial entity Angel had seen on the holographic tablet.

With the yawning expanse of the mouth, bone after bone was spit out, landing in the courtyard. Some of the bones were still coated in flesh and saliva, and the foaming spit carried with it the chilling aquatic fragrance of the creature.

Yet, given the nauseating sight, this ghostly scent only served to induce more nausea in Angel.

Following the Spitting Out the Bones scene, an almost intact piece of hide was ejected from the large mouth as well.

The courtyard now resembled a small mountain range, crafted from bones.

After a satisfying belch, the gigantic mouth slowly shrunk, returning to its original state.

Angel, who initially considered this Panaces Succubus to have an exotic charm, now only saw a terrifying and gruesome beast.

Reflecting upon Canaan’s words, Angel began to realize that Hai had connections with several significant demons, which led to a revolutionary shift in his aesthetic perception of these entities.

“I’m not exactly sure what kind of creature this is,” Hai looked towards Angel, “Iadase referred to it as a ‘small fly of the void’. What do you think?”

Angel took a deep breath, his gaze filled with distaste as he looked at the oddly fragrant skeleton.

“Hold on, let me assess it.”

Despite the rising feeling of nausea, Angel, with silent determination, initiated the construction of the Eye of Nalda spell model within the privacy of his mental space.
