Chapter 1131 The Collapse

Chapter 1130 The Weeping La Sutherland <TOC> Chapter 1132 Night's Final Act

La Sutherland appeared to be weeping silently.

Angel was taken aback by Canaan’s response. He did not understand the implication of Canaan’s words, yet he could perceive a strand of sorrow deeply woven within her speech.

In contrast, Fafnir seemed to realize something after Canaan finished speaking. Gazing pensively at the distant Void Obelisk, she softly stated, “It’s a warning. La Sutherland is issuing a warning.”

What could prompt this warning? What was the content of the warning? Fafnir was uncertain about these things. But she could sense that some unprecedented incident must have occurred with the Void Obelisk, an incident that was possibly cataclysmic enough to profoundly transform La Sutherland!

That was the only explanation for the resulting climate of dramatic turmoil as a sign of warning.

The mournful atmosphere enveloping La Sutherland wasn’t perceived by Canaan alone. At this time, every demonic denizen of La Sutherland was shrouded in a hitherto unfamiliar melancholy.

These demons, living in La Sutherland for such a long time, had gradually merged with the spirit of La Sutherland both in terms of their vitality and consciousness, hence they were keenly aware of the shifts in La Sutherland.

Amidst this mournful atmosphere, the majority of the demons were at a loss.

Only a select few powerful demons were able to detect the source of it all…

In the winding paths of a pitch-dark tunnel, Iadase was advancing. Suddenly, he halted his rushing figure, his head lifted in puzzlement.

He, too, had sensed the sorrow pervading all of La Sutherland. In fact, this sorrow seemed even more profound to him than it was to other demons. It was as if La Sutherland had awakened a will, urging him to act.

Iadase quickly realized what was happening. His eyes darkened as a thought flashed in his mind.

La Sutherland could not possibly develop a will, therefore, this so-called atmosphere of sorrow had to be the work of something else.

Iadase closed his eyes, and in his mental perception, countless light runes were drifting around. As these runes passed by Iadase, they seemed to resonate, as if they wished to synchronize with the rhythm of Iadase’s heartbeat.

These light runes were densely spread throughout the dark passage.

Iadase recognized these light runes. They were the rune patterns that covered all of La Sutherland. Normally, he could also sense these runes, but they never affected him. However, the current situation was different. The runes were actively vibrating, and this vibration seemed to be subtly pleading for Iadase’s assistance.

“Rune patterns would not change without cause…” A terrifying thought sprouted in Iadase’s mind, “Could it be… has someone dared to meddle with the master node of the runes?!”

The reason Iadase and Nythotep were rushing towards the Shadow Mist Zone was not simply to deal with the breaking of the underground seal. Rather, they feared that with the breaking of the seal, the master node of the underground might also encounter some mishap.

In the event that the master node experiences an unforeseen circumstance, it is the runes dispersed across the breadth of La Sutherland that bear the brunt! Therefore, this ubiquitous pall of melancholy represents a warning and even a cry for help from these runes!

Upon this realization, Iadase quickens his pace, striving to reach the basement before the master node is compromised, to shatter into fragments the audacious fool who dares to challenge the order of La Sutherland!

The exit of this hidden passage, however, is an inconspicuous compartment on the first floor of the Void Obelisk. As Iadase emerges from this compartment, he finds himself in a pitch-black corridor. Moving at breakneck speed, he weaves his way through the corridor when suddenly, a long, dark streak across the floor tiles catches his eye. This streak stretches far into the distance, its end nowhere in sight.

A faint charred scent emanates from the dark streak, a clear aftermath of a scorching flame. The tiles of the Void Obelisk, crafted from precious and special materials, bear a trace of a fire that is undoubtedly extraordinary — it may even rival the Infernal Fire commanded by Komodo!

The trace appears fresh, likely left not long ago. At this moment, Komodo should still be in the Demon Blood Pool, and that simpleton, Iuppiter, could not possibly wield such a distinctive flame. This suggests… an uninvited guest must have infiltrated the Void Obelisk! And this unwelcome guest is likely the root of all turmoil.

A ruthless glint flashes in Iadase’s eyes as he hastens his pace, soon reaching the main door to the basement. Though the door is shut, a gaping hole is visible right in the middle. Observing the hole, Iadase can almost visualize the scene: Iuppiter, with its characteristically weird grin, wielding its disk-like fist, hammering repeatedly on the door.

The seal on the basement door is impervious to all but the seven Great Demons. And this door represents the very seal of the basement! “Iuppiter, you’d better not let me discover that you’ve become the pawn of that damned troublemaker!” Iadase mutters through gritted teeth.

Right now, there is no time for deep pondering. After a quiet curse, Iadase shrinks his size, transforming into a beam of black light that disappears into the basement stairs.

As Iadase arrives in the underground lobby, the first thing he sees is a “starving” Glutton Demon, not far away. “Iuppiter? How have you ended up like this?” Iuppiter, in its true form, is actually a Glutton Demon. Even though the demon appears now as skin and bones, Iadase recognizes it immediately.

At this moment, Iuppiter is unconscious and unable to answer Iadase’s queries. As for why it broke the seal on the basement, the reason remains a mystery. However, Iadase can hazard a guess… Iuppiter, being indifferent to anything else but as a Glutton Demon, its only interest is to feast. The more delectable the meal, the happier it is.

Moreover, Iuppiter would even resort to madness for a meal. Once, Iuppiter heard a rumor that a certain demon’s tail was particularly delicious when grilled. He gave it a try and found it suited his taste, which led to him wiping out an entire demon tribe, not sparing even those who fled deeper into their territory.

While demons might slay each other, they certainly wouldn’t go so far for such a “simple” reason as Iuppiter.

Thus, Iuppiter breaking the seal of the basement was probably due to being swayed by another’s deceitful words.

And the purveyor of such deceit… Iadase’s gaze slowly shifted to the other side of the central statue, where a massive otherworldly figure stood.

“Is it you, who lured Iuppiter to break the basement seal?” Iadase stepped forward, eyes filled with restrained fury, voice seething with suppressed anger, “Tell me, who are you?”

Iadase initially thought it was a cunning human who had tempted Iuppiter, but this gigantic form was clearly not human.

The closer Iadase got to the statue, the more cautious he became.

Upon entering the underground hall, he had sensed with his mental perception the convergence of the light runes — the Rune Core. The immense figure was standing in front of the Core, slowly reaching out towards it.

Therefore, he did not attack immediately for fear of provoking the figure to act recklessly.

His inquiry was meant to divert the attention of this otherworldly figure. If it would just turn its head, lose focus for a moment, then the opportunity to deal with it would arise!

However, Iadase’s questioning didn’t have any effect. The otherworldly figure completely ignored him.

In the silence of the underground hall, the only sound was the dripping of green slime from the otherworldly figure.

*Tower had heard footsteps overhead long ago, knowing a Great Demon must be returning. However, even with this knowledge, he was not concerned.

With the strength absorbed from the chains, *Tower had become extremely powerful.

Even Iadase had to admit, *Tower’s current strength was indeed formidable.

Who could have imagined that not long ago, *Tower was but a feeble wizard apprentice. Even if Iadase was told this now, he likely wouldn’t believe it.

The capacity of a vessel determines the amount of water it can hold.

Using a commonplace analogy: consider power as water, and the magic source as the container. The gap between a wizard apprentice and formal wizard is the difference between a cup and a jug. If one attempts to forcefully expand the cup into a jug without taking the proper path, massive cracks will inevitably appear in the jug’s wall. Moreover, it’s not just a matter of turning a cup into a jug, but a water tower, and all within a short period of time.

In essence, this is an impossibility.

To make it possible, one has to accept complete collapse.

*Tower achieved it, thanks to the aid of the entity behind the chains. Yet, while *Tower had indeed grown stronger, he also had to bear the consequence of The Collapse.

This collapse, currently is but a mental collapse, causing *Tower to progressively lose his once unshakeable rationality.

Indeed, it is precisely this transformation, that in the face of Iadase’s arrival, *Tower would not overthink. His emotional state remained unaltered, his goal still singular: to press on.

Hence, all of Iadase’s various probes and inquiries were to no avail when directed at *Tower.

*Tower’s actions may seem as simple as moving his hand downwards, but the process he underwent was incredibly intricate. Despite the absence of physical impediments, the entire rune formation was trembling, exerting its influence on *Tower. That’s why his speed kept decreasing.

Nevertheless, *Tower continued moving his hand closer to the master node.

As *Tower’s hand was about to touch the protruding rock, Iadase knew he could no longer hope for the opponent’s daze. He must take the initiative to attack!

However, just as Iadase was about to act, the underground hall experienced another upheaval.

The closer *Tower got to the master node, the more powerful the formation’s frequency became. Yet, when the formation realized that it could not influence *Tower’s resolve no matter what, it abandoned its attempt to hinder him!

But after this incident, *Tower did not feel any relief, for the hidden mechanism in the underground hall had been triggered.

With the rumbling sound, the statues in the hall suddenly came to life.

Initially, the statue’s body was curled up and wrapped in a pair of black wings, its shape obscured.

Yet now, the black wings slowly unfolded, gradually revealing the true form that was concealed.
