Yet, as his mental power elevated to a certain threshold, a sudden sensation of impending danger infiltrated his consciousness. Angel reflexively retracted his mental power, but despite his quick response, a thread of his energy was too late to be withdrawn and was left stranded outside. An intense sensation of pain plunged his mind into turmoil.

Once he gradually recovered, a belated realization struck him. The external environment was saturated with a brutal and chaotic energy. As soon as his mental power came into contact with this form of energy, it met an unexpected accident.

This energy resembled the disorderly power that ensued when Fafnir and Komodo locked horns in battle, but it seemed even more intense than before.

“Could it be that Fafnir and Komodo are now fighting in earnest, causing this energy to become berserk?” Angel wondered quietly to himself.

Although he couldn’t pinpoint the exact reason, it seemed, for now, that his plans for escape through this avenue would have to be temporarily suspended. The thought had to be put on pause, leaving Angel with no choice.

What he was more concerned about at this point was the uncertainty of the extent to which this rampant energy would infiltrate underground, given the collapse of the underground passage. If it seeped below, he would truly be left with no avenue for retreat.

Angel looked at the heaps of sand and rocks in front of him. He dared not make any reckless movements, only shaking his head in resignation.

Turning around, he decided to revisit the location of that door, for he couldn’t be forever trapped in this place.

However, as Angel turned back, he abruptly sensed something was off. But he couldn’t immediately articulate what exactly was wrong. He had a nagging feeling that he’d overlooked some crucial detail.

Step by step, he began to move towards the end of the passage. His strides were light and slow, composed and scattered. Despite this, they stirred up the residual dust on the ground.

The dust particles danced and floated in the radiant clear glow.

“A glow…” Angel furrowed his eyebrows, and after a while, he suddenly exclaimed, “Light, it’s the light that’s off!”

Angel stashed the luminescent stone he was holding directly into his bracelet. Based on the previous situation, the place should be plunged into utter darkness without a light source.

But that was not the case.

A very faint glow was seeping through a crack in the wall on one side.

The light was indeed dim, but in the pitch-black underground passage, it stood out like a beacon, its presence significantly pronounced.

He had initially overlooked it because he’d been holding the luminescent stone, the brilliance of which had completely suppressed this faint light. It was only when he arrived at the collapsed area and looked back that he noticed something odd, for the luminescent stone in his hand didn’t illuminate the passage enough to reach the door deep within.

The existence of a light source indicated an exit, unless it was a self-illuminating substance.

Angel approached the source of light, scrutinizing it with keen attention.

Even though his current location was yet to suffer any form of collapse, the collapse of the underground passage still exerted its influence here, manifesting in the elongated fissures stretching across the ceiling and the cracks evident around him.

Through diligent observation, Angel could conclude that no form of luminescent matter existed within this crack.

This only left one possibility — there must be a Light Source Behind the Wall!

Given that this section of the wall was relatively thin and bearing cracks, the light from the other side managed to filter through.

Upon this deduction, Angel wore a complex expression. The existence of a light source behind hinted at the presence of a passage or a room behind the wall.

This crack was fairly close to the door. It could be possible that the room behind the door was right behind this wall.

Initially, Angel had not thought about chipping away at it as the wall appeared entirely solid, exhibiting an intimidating hardness. However, now with the appearance of a crack, breaking it open seemed significantly easier.

After a moment of hesitation, Angel pondered that remaining in this place was not a solution. After weighing his options, he extended his hand, aligning it with the wall and forcefully pushed against it.

With the rustling noise, dirt and rocks started to roll down. The wall, which bore the crack, gave way, creating a hole right in the center.

Simultaneously, a dim light started to shine from the other end of the hole.

On the other side of the hole, there was a vast hall.

It was constructed lavishly, yet appeared desolate. The ground was covered in rubble, with the only distinct feature being a gigantic statue situated at the center of the hall.

However, at that moment, the statue was turned away from Angel; he couldn’t fully discern its appearance.

As Angel cautiously set foot into the hall, even without moving much, he noticed the peculiarities of this hall.

Take, for instance, the walls.

At first, Angel assumed that the walls on this side were weaker, which allowed light to filter through the cracks due to the collapse of the passage earlier. However, upon his arrival here, he realized that the walls were extremely thick and constructed from materials not easily destructible.

The reason the wall he came through appeared thin and translucent was not due to the wall itself but rather a huge cavity within it.

By appearances, it seemed like the cavity was forcefully hammered out, and that too, in a single blow.

The claw and scratch marks along the edge of the wall suggested the possibility of a past battle here. During the fight, someone was slammed into the wall with a powerful strike, carving out a deep pit. This, in turn, caused the wall to appear weak.

A faint brilliance flashed through Angel’s eyes.

This was a minor trick——the Eye of True Sight. This trick allowed one to see through the surface, revealing the most genuine elements. The Eye of True Sight, a spell at the wizard level, could even backtrack scenes.

Angel employed this trick to examine the traces of time.

Upon his arrival, the veil of dust over the terrain suggested a recent development in the formation of the pit. To confirm this speculation, he employed the ‘Eye of True Sight’ again for a closer inspection.

The findings startled him. Astonishingly, the pit in the wall had been formed within the last hour.

Moreover, the capability of creating such a massive pit without any trace of blood led to another inference: the creature involved in its creation must be *extraordinarily robust.

It indicates that within the last hour, at least two formidable creatures inhabited this hall, one of which had a particularly resilient physique. They must have engaged in a conflict here… wait, no. Angel cast a glance around, noticing the scarcity of battle scars. Could it mean that the fight never actually took place?

After reaching a preliminary conclusion, Angel shifted his gaze back to the vast pit in the wall, a silhouette flashing across his mind.

Iadase.

He had known beforehand that Iadase was in the Void Obelisk. Angel was unsure about the physical strength of Iadase, but he was confident about the resilience of Iadase’s bone armor.

Looking at the indent on the wall, he could almost be certain that Iadase was the one responsible for it.

As for Iadase’s adversary, only one creature crossed Angel’s mind within the hour time frame — the mysterious intruder.

At this thought, Angel recalled what Komodo had mentioned earlier: the intruder had reached the underground of the Void Obelisk and had deactivated the master rune node… which was precisely where he was standing.

Could it be such a coincidence?

Angel suddenly wished to retreat. His gut feeling warned him of impending danger in this place.

Yet, retreating would merely leave him to act as a sitting duck. At the very least, he saw no imminent threats within this hall.

Angel decided to explore this place a bit.

Before taking his first step, a feeling of anxiety gripped him, making him swallow hard. After all, this was the Void Obelisk, a place where countless demons of La Sutherland dared not enter. Him, a mere apprentice, wandering aimlessly in this vicinity could trigger any traps, which would likely spell immediate doom.

The hall was eerily silent. Angel could even hear his own heartbeat.

He took a couple of steps along the edge, and then he noticed the doors in this hall. There were two in total. One was the door that he had been unable to open earlier, and the other was right in front of him, facing the central statue. However, the latter had been damaged, and Angel could barely see what was behind it…

“Stairs?!” His eyes lit up at the sight. If these were indeed stairs, did they lead to the upper levels?

If his memory served him right, each floor of the Void Obelisk had a significant door. Maybe he could ascend via these stairs, reach the upper floor, and find his way out!

With this thought, Angel planned to circle around to the large door on the opposite side.

Guided by the seamless dance of shadows, Angel proceeded unhindered along the tower walls. No danger loomed, and no hidden trap sprung. It occurred to him that such defenses, often crafted to dissuade petty thieves, seemed redundant within the Void Obelisk — a fortress born from the might of a Supreme Demon God and kept under the watchful eye of Great Demons. A shifting thought of these dread lords held more sway than any mechanical snare. What’s more, until the master node was breached, countless runes lent their protective grace, rendering traps even more unnecessary.

Such realization invigorated Angel’s pace.

Upon reaching the other end of the grand hall, the veiled countenance of the statue was revealed to him. A strange creature, wrapped in its own wings. With its cranium and body coiled within, its true form remained a mystery to Angel.

While the statue seemed innocuous, Angel noticed a demon collapsed directly beneath it. The creature appeared lifeless and gaunt as though it had succumbed to starvation.

“Perhaps it has passed away,” Angel pondered, too wary to confirm, too cautious to reach out with his mental tendril.

Regardless, his best course of action was to keep moving.

Without a backward glance, Angel sprinted towards the colossal gateway. Just as it loomed within his grasp, a series of cracking noises echoed from behind.

His heart pounded, but he did not turn around; instead, his stride quickened. No matter what strange developments transpired behind him, the answer lay in flight!

As he ran, Angel chanted the Mysterious Soul Whisper in his mind, preparing to exploit the Gravity Lines for his escape.

Yet before he could complete his incantation, a terrifying pressure descended, locking onto his form.

Angel stumbled, rolling to a half-crouch, immobilized. The severity of this oppressive force far exceeded his expectations, causing blood to seep from his skin, even though it was merely a diffused portion of the overall might.

As the blood seeped from his body, Angel distinctly felt the pressure lessen somewhat. The strain on his form eased correspondingly, allowing slight movement once more.

However, Angel knew that any significant motion at this juncture would be perceived as provocation. Therefore, he refrained from grand gestures, slowly lifting his gaze to comprehend what was unfolding…
