Nevertheless, both the hope of humanity and the concerns of the demons culminated in nothing but sheer disappointment.

For Fafnir only arrived at the summit of the tower without lending aid to either party. Flitting to the far end of the rainclouds, Fafnir marked clear boundaries between the demons and humans, appearing to have established an independent third camp.

Angel, naturally, stayed close to Fafnir’s side.

At present, Angel was also uncertain about the unfolding situation. He and Sanders were initially at a standstill on one floor, but all of a sudden, Nythotep covered the Void Obelisk with clouds. After this, Fafnir and Canter materialized before him, one after another.

Upon Fafnir’s arrival, she uttered no words but exhaled a sigh of relief upon finding Angel unharmed.

Canter’s arrival, on the other hand, served to disclose the humans’ decision to press an aggressive attack.

Afterward, Sanders and Fafnir appeared to exchange words, leading to the current state of affairs. Sanders and Canter flew to the tower’s apex to restrain Iadase, while Angel remained at Fafnir’s side.

Arriving high in the sky, Angel still hoped to glean some knowledge from the battle.

Especially upon hearing that Mengke was locked in combat with Olucia, his spirit was stirred. Such a clash between extraordinary individuals would undoubtedly transcend the mundane, and perhaps he could learn something from observing it.

However, as his gaze fell upon the battlefield, he was met with disappointment.

It was not that their fight lacked spectacle, but rather… Angel couldn’t catch a glimpse of their forms at all. The confrontation between Mengke and Olucia resembled nothing more than two entwined phantoms, forming rifts in the void each time they clashed.

Not only was Angel unable to see anything, but his head began to spin after just a few glances. This was a stark contrast to his previous experience of livestreaming the floating iceberg battle in the courtyard of the Phantasmagoria.

“Such a high-level combat, the mere flow of energy is beyond your current realm of understanding. As for your previous experience, your consciousness was protected by my wind, allowing you to observe the Great Demon level battle,” Fafnir suddenly explained.

Angel looked at Fafnir in astonishment, not due to the underlying implications, but because… this was the first time Fafnir had taken the initiative to speak to him since their encounter.

Moreover, judging by Fafnir’s character as Angel understood it, she was not the type to provide explanations for such minor occurrences.

Angel stared at Fafnir in confusion. Could it be that Fafnir felt guilty? After all, if not for his good fortune and Sanders’ timely assistance before, he might have met his end back in the Obelisk.

However, upon closer inspection, Fafnir remained impassive from beginning to end, giving away no clues.

Shrugging, Angel decided not to delve further into it.

“Could I possibly request Lady Fafnir’s protection once more…” Angel timidly requested, his eyes filled with anticipation as he looked at Fafnir.

Fafnir responded indifferently, “The combat here holds no excitement. Watching it would yield no insights, but rather might influence your future path.”

Angel paused for a moment. Although Fafnir had rejected his request, was this the first time he had heard concern for his future from Fafnir?

Somewhat dazed, Angel nodded in acquiescence.

Indeed, what Fafnir suggested wasn’t wrong. Given Angel’s current strength, even if he could clearly perceive the fight between Olucia and Mengke, he wouldn’t gain much insight. In fact, he could be potentially misled by the profound mysteries unleashed during their confrontation, which might cause him to lose focus and deviate from his path.

Although unable to watch the battle between Mengke and Olucia, Angel was deeply intrigued by it and couldn’t help but ask, “Lady Fafnir, who do you believe has a greater chance of emerging victorious?”

Among those present, if one were to judge by discernment, only Fafnir had the insight to interpret the circumstances surrounding the fight between Mengke and Olucia.

She paused for a moment before slowly saying, “The human called Mengke has a diverse array of tactics when fighting and many unexpected attacks. Considering the current situation, he is temporarily suppressing Olucia. However, as a Descendant of the Demon God, Olucia has only unsealed her True Form. Her True Spirit and True Name remain in her control. If she unseals new powers, the outcome remains uncertain.”

True Form, True Spirit, and True Name? Angel recalled seeing similar information in some records of the Demon Gods. It turned out that not only the Demon Gods but even their descendants possess such powers?

Seeing Angel’s confusion, Fafnir calmly said, “The True Form, Spirit, and Name Olucia has unsealed are both hers and not hers. The identity of a Descendant of a Demon God is quite complex and difficult to explain in short. You only need to know that Olucia’s current powers are mostly inherited from the Flameless Lord. The more she uses them, the closer she is to the Path of the Flameless Lord. Just like humans, who after becoming formal wizards, start to choose their own future path. Olucia is doing the same. Her desire to obtain the Source Fire is to carve out her own path, rather than to follow the Path of the Flameless Lord.”

Fafnir sighed softly as she reached this point in her explanation.

Not long ago, she met Olucia in the ‘Phantasmagoria’. At that time, Olucia had asked her some questions, and from these, it wasn’t hard to guess that Olucia was searching for the Lost City, which disappeared long ago into the annals of time.

Going to that place, Olucia had only one goal: to completely deviate from the path set for her by the Flameless Lord.

However, sometimes one can be mired and unaware of it, and there’s no guarantee that seeking will always yield results.

Moreover, would the Flameless Lord really just watch Olucia pursuing her own path?

More often than not, one doesn’t have a choice.

Angel was unaware of Fafnir’s inner thoughts and furrowed his brows, saying, “In that case, it seems this battle will be a long and drawn-out war of attrition. But La Sutherland is already at its end now…”

“It won’t necessarily be a war of attrition. Just watch, it won’t be long before there’s a result,” Fafnir said nonchalantly.

Not long after Fafnir’s words, a change did indeed occur on the scene.

However, this change didn’t stem from the outcome of the battle itself, but from the top of the Void Obelisk on the other side.

Angel remembered that the Servant of Fire, Tantin, and the Young Fire Demon, Greaves, seemed to be at the top of the tower. However, his attention had been previously taken by the earth-shaking battle between Olucia and Mengke, and he hadn’t paid much attention to that area.

But now, a startling change had occurred at the top of the tower, which Angel had previously overlooked!

A lance of incandescent orange light, blazing with fervor, descended from the heavens, penetrating the rainclouds to land atop the tower with a swift and sudden puncture.

As this radiant beam reached the apex of the tower, an eruption of stupendous luminosity ensued instantaneously.

Rarely had such intense brightness been seen in the world, as it swept through the gloomy rainclouds in a mere blink of an eye. All onlookers found their eyes stroked by this powerful light, and their world turned blank, the overwhelming luminescence erasing all sight.

Angel too was momentarily stunned, but Fafnir swiftly swept her hand, creating a cool gust that protected his eyes, sparing him the full-blinding effect of the formidable glare.

This unexpected and tremendous light not only arrested all battles within the clouds but forced Canter, the embodiment of night, to reveal his true form.

This powerful illumination persisted for over ten seconds, yet it took Angel a full minute before his vision gradually returned to normal.

When he opened his eyes and looked towards the distant Void Obelisk, he noticed a significant transformation had occurred!

Olucia, who had previously been engaged in a fight with Mengke, had returned to the pinnacle of the tower, morphing back from her porcelain True Form into her previous humanoid form.

Moreover, centered around Olucia, a multitude of radiant patterns sprang into existence atop the tower. These patterns, resembling a bird’s nest, enveloped Olucia within their interlaced web of light.

“It’s a rune!” Angel identified the light patterns.

“Indeed, it’s a rune. I’m surprised you recognized it.” Fafnir glanced at Angel, unaware of Angel’s previous experiences in the underground hall. “These runes are the manifestation of Olucia’s armor. Judging by their intricacy, I suspect they were drawn by the Cruel Scholar itself. They likely represent a trump card held by Olucia.”

“Mengke has attacked these light patterns previously, without breaking through. The patterns must provide a defensive function.”

A puzzled expression dawned on Angel’s face. “Defensive? What’s the meaning of applying this rune atop the tower? Is it not akin to a self-imposed prison? Mengke can’t get in, but neither can she get out, right?”

As Angel’s confusion persisted, another change unfolded on the battlefield.

“Mine, all mine, nobody can take them!” Alongside this roar, the Void Obelisk suddenly began to tremble.

All eyes on the field, including those of the demons, were drawn towards the base of the Void Obelisk… the source of the tower’s shaking indicated something mischievous afoot.

Shortly thereafter, from beneath the colossal tower, billowing clouds of smoke began to surge upward.

Following closely, a scarlet figure burst out from the smoke. It clambered up the tower like a bolt of red lightning, reaching the apex at an alarming speed.

Without losing momentum, it charged directly into the light patterns on the tower’s crown.

“Boom——”

After a resounding explosion, the light pattern flickered but remained unchanged. Conversely, the scarlet figure was deflected by the pattern and sent flying into the distance.

With the rebounding force eventually coming to a standstill, it twirled several rounds like a spinning top.

At that very moment, Angel discerned the true form of the crimson silhouette.

The skull, much like that of a salamander…

It was Komodo!

Upon seeing Komodo, a flicker passed through Angel’s gaze. Komodo had once tried to capture him personally, and the sight of it now set Angel’s heart racing once again.

However, Komodo seemed to be in a frenzied state at present, its gaze fixated on the top of the tower from start to finish. It didn’t pay the slightest attention to Angel.

“Mine, it’s all mine!” Muttering to itself, Komodo made a beeline for the radiant rune once more.

In the end, though, Komodo was repelled again.

But Komodo appeared completely undeterred. Its eyes shined even more ardently towards the tower’s pinnacle, repeatedly charging towards the glowing rune.
