The heavens above are smothered in an oppressive black, not the tranquil obsidian of the night but an insidious, lifeless darkness.

Contrastingly, the earth is ablaze with flames, seeming to erupt from the crevices of molten lava. The flickering light reveals a deep terra cotta colored ground, as though steeped in blood.

Upon this tension-filled landscape, a once wildly laughing youth in a white robe suddenly transforms into a monstrous entity of terror. He charges, bellowing, towards a horrific shadow.

On the other side, a familiar figure is slowly rising…

Totoro’s eyes abruptly fling open, his pale irises shrinking to a mere slit as sweat cascades down his forehead.

A chill runs down his spine, an inexpressible knot of dread twining within his heart.

At that moment, he hears the patter of footsteps. A hunched figure enters from outside the door, first approaching the fireplace. With a snap of her fingers, the roaring flames within are quelled to a mere smolder.

Then, she leisurely walks towards the bedside, the wool carpet muffling her steps, rendering them almost tender.

“Your forehead is drenched, it doesn’t seem like you’ve had a good rest, more like you’ve spent the night toiling,” says the elderly voice from the newcomer.

Only then does Totoro return to reality, turning to the elderly woman at his side, “Mentor Maya, you’ve come.”

“Did you know I would come?” The speaker is indeed Maya, the prophecy witch of the Savage Grottoes, known as ‘Measures the Stars’ Maya.

Totoro nods, “I saw certain visions before.”

Maya casts a profound glance at Totoro. She knows he wouldn’t lie to her; he truly saw some visions, and they involved her. Yet Maya had not felt any sense of being spied upon.

Such a gift was indeed terrifying. Maya inwardly marvels, but her face remains impassive.

Maya walks over to the window, drawing back the curtains. Outside, the indigo sky, faintly adorned with stars, heralds the early dawn.

“I felt a strong fluctuation in your room,” Maya swings open the window and the crisp outside air sweeps in, whisking away the stale atmosphere, “Speak, what happened?”

Totoro hesitates for a moment, his eyes downturned, his voice barely audible, “I saw that vision again.”

“That vision? You mean the one you saw at the Crown Star Church?” Maya raises her eyebrow. She’s always known that Totoro frequently sees visions of the Abyss, and since the Star Observing Day, the frequency of these visions has been increasing. However, Totoro tends to keep things to himself. He talks quite a lot around Angel, and is willing to share everything, but when it comes to others, he clams up. Unless someone prods and pricks, he will not open his mouth.

Consequently, Maya knows very little.

Being Totoro’s mentor, Maya respected Totoro’s thoughts, refraining from intrusive methods to pry into them. After all, the art of prophecy, unlike other spells, hinges not only on the subjective perspective but also possibly involves unpredictable fluctuations that are hard to foresee.

“Yes, this time it came to me in a dream, it appeared in a dream. Moreover, this time, the scene was not static,” Totoro said, recollecting the previous dream.

“So, you witnessed certain events unfolding?” Maya questioned.

“I saw a bit, especially, I saw…” The image of a familiar figure flashed across Totoro’s mind, compelling him to clutch his rapidly beating heart. His brows furrowed and sweat began to permeate from his forehead.

“What did you see?” Maya expressed surprise, as Totoro seemed poised to verbalize the foreseen vision.

“I think I saw…” After a significant pause, Totoro slowly uttered a name.

“Angel, I think I saw Angel,” Totoro suddenly stood up as he spoke, “He must be Angel, how could I not have realized before?”

“I remember you occasionally mentioning a white-robed youth in your visions. How did it turn into Angel?”

“The white-robed youth is someone else…” Totoro hesitated before saying ‘someone else’. In the prior vision, that white-robed youth transformed into a terrifying creature. “Angel was there too.”

“So there were two of them, what then?” Maya continued to inquire.

Totoro, however, seemed increasingly uneasy, “Apart from Angel, I also saw a dark figure emitting a terrifying aura. I suspect that might be a Demon God from the Abyss.”

“A Demon God from the Abyss?” Maya remembered Totoro inquiring about such beings recently.

But how could Angel and a white-robed youth appear in the same scene as a Demon God from the Abyss? Maya knitted her brows in contemplation. Angel’s strength should not have reached a level that would involve dealings with Demon Gods unless he had become a follower of one?

Totoro lifted his head to look at Maya, “Angel must be in danger right now, I want to rescue him!”

“Do you think you have the power to save him?” Maya’s gaze turned towards the window. Their location was nestled within a dense forest, with a panoramic view of lush greenery, “If it really is a Demon God from the Abyss, who among the entire Southern Region of the Wizarding World can save him?”

“But I…” Totoro started to speak, only to swallow his words.

Observing Totoro’s hesitation, Maya pondered for a moment, “We’ll set off for the Savage Grottoes tomorrow. After returning, I will share your message with Lord Rhine, who should make a decision. Furthermore, I can attempt to predict Angel’s fortune through Star Tower.”

At this point, Maya silently sighed in her heart. If it weren’t for the item on Angel that blocked prophecy, she wouldn’t have needed to rely on the power of Star Tower, nor be limited to merely predicting good or bad fortune.

Having spent some time in the Wizarding World, Totoro had become increasingly familiar with the rules among wizards. Many things can’t just be done because he wants to do them.

Take the rescue of Angel as an example, even though Totoro was desperate, what could he do? In the face of an incomprehensibly mighty existence, what could he achieve even if he did go?

So it seems, the only strategy currently available is to return to the Savage Grottoes and beseech other wizards for help.

“Despite our imminent departure tomorrow, we must not neglect today’s lessons,” Maya lifted her cane, a gentle tap upon the window and a streak of starlight traced the sky, finding its resting place in a dense woodland.

“Utilize the spell of celestial patterns to locate the slumbering starlight.”

Upon stating the day’s instructional task, Totoro hesitated momentarily, then promptly migrated to the window. The morning star was already in sight, signaling the break of day. He’d only just grasped the art of nighttime celestial mapping; daytime celestial patterns, however, were still a mystery. To complete today’s mission, he had no choice but to make the most of the remaining darkness to calculate the star patterns; otherwise, today’s objective would surely end in failure!

Maya, observing Totoro’s frantic calculations, nodded in approval. But, recalling Totoro’s earlier words, she felt a sense of unease. She retreated to her quarters, embarking on a silent contemplation. If Angel was beyond prediction, perhaps the others close to him could be read. For instance, his mentor, Sanders.

A day passed, and a weary Totoro returned from the forest. Fortuitously, before the moon lost its light, he discovered the sleeping starlight deep within a gorge. No sooner had he arrived back at the wizard’s tower than Maya’s voice reached his ears, “Even though the task is completed, you merely marked the target location without considering the optimal route when initially utilizing the spell of celestial patterns. At any moment, flexibility is key, and not simply fixation on a single goal.”

Totoro’s clothes were a bit ragged — clearly, he encountered a challenging path during his search.

“Rest now, and prepare to leave this place tomorrow,” Maya ended the conversation there.

Sometime later, Totoro laid in bed, the scenes from his dream the previous night replaying in his mind — a desolate, dark sky and an earth scorched by flames, stained red with blood. Would he dream of it again tonight?

With that thought, Totoro closed his eyes.

……

Suddenly, Angel’s eyes shot open.

Gasping for breath and soaked in sweat, anyone who had just endured such an escape would be in a similar state.

Dazed for a moment, Angel regained his composure, his gaze slowly focusing. The sky was a pitch-black expanse, a lifeless, oppressive darkness, even more stifling than the void.

Angel could feel himself lying on hard ground. But, the sensation on his back was rather hot, as if the earth was being roasted.

Wait, ground? Was there ground here? Had he already escaped from the perilous void?

A thought had barely crossed Angel’s mind when he heard a soft rustling noise near his ear.

“Shop owner, are you okay?” A boy with horns on his forehead approached Angel.

Angel was taken aback for a moment, then reacted, “Greaves, I’m fine… Have we managed to escape from the void passage? Where’s Toby?”

Greaves nodded, his expression a bit strange, “We did escape, but it doesn’t seem too safe here. I’ve got a bit of an uneasy feeling.”

After a pause, Greaves took Toby out of his pocket, “Its name is Toby, huh? It’s here.”

Angel nodded and reached out to take Toby, who was still asleep.

It wasn’t until he had confirmed that Toby was safe that Angel suddenly realized the chains that had been binding him were gone! He propped himself up with his hands and sat up.

The scorching sensation that transmitted from the ground made Angel frown.

He looked around, in the distance he could faintly see cracks in the land, seemingly glowing with the unique red light of lava, and around him, a large amount of fire was burning.

Was this a lava field? No wonder the ground felt so hot.

“Do you know where we are?” Angel asked Greaves.

However, Greaves shook his head, “I don’t know, I passed out earlier and didn’t remember the coordinates of this place… But even if I hadn’t, I doubt we could pinpoint the coordinates, given how many times we changed course.”

Greaves’ words reminded Angel of the events before he passed out——

The void collapsing, space imploding, void monsters; under various terrifying disasters, he had undergone the most exciting yet perilous journey.

Popoca kept changing the route, until in the end, perhaps even Popoca didn’t know where exactly they had ended up.

The reason Angel passed out was due to a spatial distortion during the last change of course… His memory of what followed was blank, by the time he woke up, he had already arrived at this vast expanse of Unknown Territory.
