Chapter 1258 Unexpected Change in the Ruins

Chapter 1257 Yesevei <TOC> Chapter 1259 Gloria's Disappearance

In the midst of Merlin narrating his tale, Tree Spirit abruptly lifted his head, and after a pause, he addressed Angel with an enigmatic comment, “You should take your leave now.”

Angel, caught off guard, failed to grasp Tree Spirit’s intention: Was he implying he no longer held any value and was about to be dismissed?

Tree Spirit provided no explanation. Instead, Yesevei from one side enlightened Angel, “If you don’t depart soon, you probably won’t be able to leave today.”

With a grin on his face, Tree Spirit retorted, “Did you think your return with your mentor would escape notice?”

Yesevei supplemented, “Earlier, several individuals had their sights set on Tree Spirit Hall. However, their indecision led to my seizing the opportunity first. Yet, observing the effects on these apprentices, I suspect some people might already be growing restless.”

A mere expenditure of 5 magic crystals resulted in such a substantial advancement! Even though the impact might not be as noticeable for a formal wizard outside the Ocean Lineage, the enhancement for the apprentices is unimaginably significant! Imagine this — to practice water-based tricks across magical lineages requires a considerable investment of time, but the Rhythm of the Ocean could increase your affinity with the water element while saving your practice time. What an astonishing effect!

The value of the Rhythm of the Ocean has been unequivocally demonstrated right before their eyes!

Thus, there’s no shortage of individuals wanting to partake in this Voyage of Experience.

Now, Angel understood. As Tree Spirit had indicated, if he didn’t depart soon, he might be cornered here by these people.

Angel didn’t wish to squander too much time here. Upon this realization, he immediately expressed his gratitude to Tree Spirit, “I shall take my leave then. If you, Tree Spirit Lord, require assistance in the future, feel free to reach out.”

With that said, Angel paid no further heed to the gratitude pouring from the apprentices on the leaf. He lightly tapped his foot, soared into the mid-air, and disappeared into the horizon.

Following Angel’s departure, Tree Spirit contemplated the spot where Angel had once stood. Yesevei noticed Tree Spirit’s gaze, followed it, and discovered there were still circles of air ripples present at the location.

Just a moment ago, she hadn’t sensed any energy fluctuations. Had Angel achieved such an effect relying merely on his physical body?

Yesevei’s eyes flickered with astonishment. Even she, after all, couldn’t accomplish this feat.

“Is this for real?” Yesevei looked towards Tree Spirit.

Tree Spirit snapped out of his contemplation, giving Yesevei a nod. The corners of his mouth curled into an inscrutable smile: “This type of growth, it gets more and more intriguing.”

“I don’t find it amusing,” she retorted, “those of the Phantom Island lineage, they truly are all perverts.”

Once Yesevei finished speaking, she looked up and down at the nearly naked Tree Spirit: “Though, you are even more perverted than them.”

With that, she turned and strode away.

Tree Spirit could only gawk, his eyes wide in confusion, watching Yesevei’s departure. “Where am I a pervert? I’m simply revealing my merits, alright!”

But Tree Spirit’s defense fell on deaf ears as Yesevei had already vanished from the grand Tree Spirit Hall.

Angel was hurtling towards Phantom Island at great speed, without any detours or stops on the way. If anyone approached, regardless of their intentions, they were flatly ignored.

He soon returned to Phantom Island.

From afar, he saw Butler Goode bowing towards him. Next to Goode was a smaller figure, donning the symbolic mask of a shadow servant, presumably Wimbledon, judging by his stature.

As soon as Angel touched down, Goode informed him that Sanders had returned to the manor and was presently waiting for him in the study.

Upon entering the study, indeed, he found Sanders seated at the desk.

“Mentor, have you already met Lord Rhine?” Angel questioned, slightly befuddled. He had only been with Tree Spirit for a few short moments, and yet Sanders had already concluded his own meeting?

Sanders gently tapped his fingers on the desk, shaking his head at Angel, “No, Lord Rhine has left. According to the message left by the magic puppet, he departed as soon as he returned from the Abyss.”

This news took Angel by surprise. Rhine was the backbone of the Savage Grottoes, his departure was no trivial matter. Currently, with Mirror Lady immersed in slumber and Rhine no longer in the Savage Grottoes, an encounter with enemies would pose a serious problem.

“Did Lord Rhine leave a message about his whereabouts?”

Sanders paused for a moment, “The ruins.”

Ruins? Angel instantly recalled the stairway leading into the clouds that they had seen on the Paramjit Plateau upon their return. It was said to be a ruin. Could it be that Lord Rhine had journeyed to some ruin located on the Paramjit Plateau?

As Sanders narrated, Angel came to understand the sequence of events. As he had speculated, Lord Rhine had indeed ventured to a ruin on the Paramjit Plateau.

Reportedly, the residual spatial energy from the failed planar fusion had unearthed a series of ancient ruins hidden within the plateau.

Due to their location on the Paramjit Plateau, most of these ruins had already been explored by the forefathers of the Savage Grottoes. In fact, many were occupied by wizards as research laboratories for their day-to-day experiments.

As Sanders had previously stated, these ruins, overall, didn’t hold any significant value.

However, the ruin that Lord Rhine had ventured to was different.

This ruin had been discovered by a wizard family during their patrol. Knowing the condition of the ruins on the Paramjit Plateau, they initially didn’t give it much thought. However, it was, after all, a ruin. Unlike large organizations, wizard families held a hopeful expectation towards these extraordinary ruins, despite knowing they might not hold much.

So, they dispatched an apprentice to investigate. But in the end, this apprentice who had ventured in did not come out.

The ruin on the Paramjit Plateau inherently bore risks. This kind of incident was within expectations. They merely sighed a bit before dispatching a formal wizard to retrieve the apprentice’s soul.

However, this formal wizard ended up in demise as well.

With no other options, they sought assistance from the neighboring wizard organizations. The first to respond was The Song of the Deep Sea, arranging for a wizard to explore the site.

At first, no one gave much thought to this ruin. But, one by one, those who ventured in, vanished. The Song of the Deep Sea had consecutively sent in four formal wizards, all of whom faced serious issues. This eventually drew the attention of ‘Sea God’, Florence.

Through the prophecy wizards’ divination, Florence realized the danger of this site was vast, filled with unforeseen and unpredictable hazards. Thus, Florence informed Rhine Mute. First, as the Savage Grottoes should be knowledgeable about the nearby ruins. Second, after all, the site was technically part of the Savage Grottoes’ territory.

However, Rhine Mute was in the Abyss at that time. By the time he received the news, several days had already passed.

By the time Rhine Mute rushed back, the ruin had experienced a significant change.

“A significant change… what kind of change? Did a powerful enemy appear, or is it a research institute left behind by an ancient legendary wizard?” Angel asked with a puzzled look in his eyes.

“There aren’t that many legendary sites,” Sanders replied. As he spoke, the rhythm of his knuckles tapping on the table transformed into illusion nodes, forming a horizontal sand table map in front of him.

Sanders stood up and pointed at a location on the map, “This is where the ruin is located. Do you notice anything unusual?”

Angel scrutinized the map, analyzing the terrain first without drawing any conclusions. He then shifted to examine the overall composition, hoping to gain insight from the bigger picture. Still, he came up empty-handed.

It wasn’t until Sanders pointed to the other side of the map that Angel suddenly realized something.

“Here, is it the boundary between the Eternal Night Kingdom and Paramjit Plateau?!”

Sanders nodded, “The sudden turn of events is not due to the ruins themselves, but arises from the Eternal Night Kingdom. The colorful dragonflies and a host of parasites that swarmed in from there have taken over the ruins. The vicinity of the ruins is enshrined in multiple layers, and the ruins themselves have turned into the most perilous forbidden zones.”

“I just inquired from Tree Spirit,” Sanders sighed, “apparently, these ruins were never discovered before. Presumably, they surfaced as an unknown ruin through the process of planar fusion. However, what lies within the ruins isn’t of much significance, the most crucial element are those creatures from the Nightmare Plane. After all, this is the first instance of a Nightmare Plane creature’s stronghold appearing in the Paramjit Plateau. If they continue to expand their territory, it will pose a massive threat to the Savage Grottoes.”

This is precisely why Lord Rhine rushed there, and he hasn’t returned for a long time.

During this period, wizards have launched attacks on these Nightmare Plane creatures, suffering heavy losses. Consequently, apart from the Savage Grottoes and the wizards in the vicinity, all other wizard organizations have distanced themselves. Even the wizards of Song of the Deep Sea have entirely left the Paramjit Plateau, not one remained, all fearing to tread the same doomed path as Sleepless City.

Upon hearing this, Angel finally understood. Come to think of it, Lord Rhine isn’t too far away. If something happens to the Savage Grottoes, he can return at a moment’s notice, and hence the atmosphere in the Mirror World remains stable.

Nevertheless, those creatures from the Nightmare Plane are indeed a ticking time bomb. If they continue their march into the plateau, the Savage Grottoes will be in grave danger.

“So, Mentor, are you planning to assist Lord Rhine next?” Angel asked.

Angel posed this question because, at present, Sanders seems the best candidate capable of dealing with the Nightmare Plane creatures, particularly the parasites. As for Angel, his identity commands respect from these creatures, preventing them from attacking him. But, Angel doesn’t have the capability to control them.

“Not for now. Although it’s a troublesome situation, you shouldn’t underestimate a wizard’s resourcefulness. With Lord Rhine present, there shouldn’t be any problem,” Sanders paused for a moment before adding, “We should stick to the original plan. Once our business here is concluded, we will depart.”

Upon hearing this, Angel breathed a sigh of relief.

Upon his return to the Wizarding World, his heart was set on going back home. His concern for Jon was weighing heavily on him, hence Sanders’ decision was of utmost importance. After all, the hope of rescuing Jon now lay solely on Sanders.

“Set the matter of the ruins aside for now. See to your affairs first, then we depart immediately.” Sanders was decisive. He outlined the tasks at hand: first, to notify others of their itinerary, spreading the excuse they’d prepared; next, to seek out Nisi and inquire about the Heart of the Swarm; and finally, to get ready to leave.

Once their course of action was decided, they prepared to set off. However, at this juncture, a knock on the door resonated in the room.

Knock, knock, knock——

With Sanders’ permission, the study door was pushed open, revealing Butler Goode standing on the other side.

“Master Sanders, young Master Pat, your meals have been prepared in the kitchen.”

Along with his voice, a rich milky aroma wafted in.

Angel’s face remained impassive, but there was a touch of embarrassment in his heart. This aroma was most certainly let in on purpose by Butler Goode! Was he to face a public execution as soon as he returned? That being said, the aroma was indeed quite tantalizing.

Angel’s eye twitched, “Shall we not waste any more time?”

No sooner had Angel finished his sentence than he heard Sanders say, “A meal won’t take up too much time. Besides, there are a few things I need to discuss with Goode.”

Upon finishing, Sanders took the lead and exited the room.
