A familiar sensation of swelling enveloped Angel.
In the past, whenever he was preparing to break through realms, his source of his magic would expand in such a manner, signaling an impending ascension.
Could it be, this feeling meant… he was ready to advance once more?
Currently, Angel had reached the pinnacle of an apprentice’s capabilities. By his original plans, he assumed it would be some time before he would experience this magic surge again. Yet, unexpectedly, just after mastering the Spell Position, the hope for advancement appeared.
While Angel could potentially attempt to break through the Great Barrier now, the circumstances were not optimal. The barrier he faced this time was different from before, an opportunity that could change the course of a wizard’s life. If he failed, it would be exponentially more challenging to break through later. Thus, Angel curbed his impulsive urges, deciding to wait until he was fully prepared.
Opening his eyes, Angel’s initial intention had been to test the “Gateway” effects. However, upon awakening, he sensed something wrong.
Gentle drafts of wind grazed his skin. Wind without a source was already peculiar, but what struck Angel as even more bizarre was the thick, inexplicable atmosphere enveloping him.
Slowly raising his head, he froze mid-action.
Above him, the sky was dominated by a whirlpool of dark clouds. The core of the cloud vortex had a deep void, like an eye embedded in the clouds, silently observing him.
For reasons Angel himself couldn’t fathom, he envisioned the vortex’s center as an eye. Yet, deep down, he felt as though he was locked in a gaze with an indescribable, unknown entity.
“This is an Omen Sign.”
Shaking off the inexplicable thoughts flooding his mind, Angel finally regained his composure, fixing his gaze upon the shifting horizon.
Earlier, when his consciousness was fully engrossed in the Vision Space, Angel was completely unaware of any omen outside. He even thought he might be overthinking, wondering if there was a need to venture to the sea just to construct the Spell Position.
Yet, the Omen Sign now appeared.
Did the sign surface because of the Spell Position he created?
It was curious. Why hadn’t this omen produced any strong fluctuations earlier?
As Angel pondered, the fluctuation manifested instantly.
This sudden anomalous ripple seemed to emanate from the dark clouds above. Most intriguingly, this fluctuation seemed to resonate with some part of Angel’s soul.
A wondrous scene played before his eyes.
Angel’s pupils constricted, his face a blend of bewilderment and astonishment, murmuring, “Could this be…”
…
Unbeknownst to Angel, the very moment he opened his eyes, the celestial omen had already been undergoing a silent transformation.
This subtle and indescribable change was hard for someone at the epicenter of the omen to detect. However, miles away in a realm by the sea, the water avatar of Jiebo clearly sensed that something was wrong.
Jiebo, still distant from where the dark clouds swirled, felt an eerie sense of oppression. While the feeling wasn’t overwhelming, Jiebo found himself unable to proceed. With each step forward, the internal balance of his water essence began to waver.
This suggests that, with just a little more provocation, the water avatar might be on the brink of collapse.
What on earth is happening?
A figure bathed in a ghostly blue luminescence stands serenely upon the night’s ocean, while Jiebo peers intently at the oppressive heart of the dark clouds, yet he discerns nothing.
Even when he tries to tap into his innate ability to feel the undercurrents of the sea, attempting to push the boundaries of his own perception, he’s thwarted.
It’s as if there’s a natural barrier, repelling everything outside the scope of the dark clouds.
Jiebo furrows his brow, musing, “This must be an Omen Sign. But I don’t recall any Omen Sign that manifests such a repellent sensation?”
What’s more puzzling is that this Omen Sign, in essence, seems so benign!
As Jiebo’s doubts burgeon, the skyward Omen Sign undergoes a transformation.
Fierce winds, originating from the distant ocean, make the sea’s surface tremble incessantly. It’s not long before waves, towering over ten meters, surge towards the heart of the dark clouds.
Simultaneously, peculiar fluctuations begin emanating from the Omen Sign.
Jiebo is momentarily stunned; this sort of fluctuation isn’t foreign to him.
His previous uncertainties about the nature of this peculiar Omen Sign are allayed by these sudden fluctuations, offering him clarity.
During the “Song of the Deep Sea”, he’d sensed similar fluctuations, and these emanated from his mentor——’Sea God’ Florence.
This is… the Vision Space that emerges during the creation of a spell.
When he sensed this particular fluctuation, a spark of curiosity ignited within Jiebo’s mind: “Which wizard is constructing a spell in this locale?”
A spell capable of evoking such an Omen Sign, if possessed by a formal wizard, would surely elevate them to the realm of true knowledge!
Though this particular Omen Sign didn’t seem overwhelmingly powerful, especially when compared to the time when Florence created his spell, where the Vision Space enveloped a vast portion of the sea; in Jiebo’s eyes, it still represented a level he couldn’t hope to reach.
As Jiebo was silently speculating about who might be creating a spell in such a secluded place, suddenly, a mighty and imposing will descended from the dark clouds overhead.
Even though Jiebo was still outside the perimeter of these dark clouds, he felt an undeniable palpitation within.
Such a grandiose will didn’t seem to emanate from a sentient being, but rather appeared as… a collective consciousness.
“Could it be… the World Will?” he pondered.
Occurrences where the World Will manifested during the creation of a spell were indeed documented. Such spells typically involved significant law changes. For instance, when Gloria utilized her Magnum Opus to step into the realm of true knowledge, the World Will had descended.
However, Jiebo struggled to fathom how this seemingly ordinary Omen Sign managed to draw the attention and subsequent Descent of the World Will. What kind of spell was being created?
While Jiebo’s mind was awash with questions, in a distant part of the ocean where his actual self resided, he suddenly perceived a beckoning consciousness.
“Jiebo?” It was a voice, deep and laden with the weight of ages.
Not only did Jiebo’s primary self hear this voice, but even White, beside Jiebo, heard it. Moreover, due to White’s blindness, she was especially sensitive to sounds, to the extent that she could even pinpoint the exact current the voice resonated from.
“Mentor?” Jiebo instantly recognized the one communicating telepathically, inquiring respectfully, “May I inquire as to the reason for reaching out to me?”
“Recollection serves that you have a water avatar near the Whale Whisker Sea, where the World Will has descended. Are you privy to the details of this event?” Florence inquired.
“You sensed it as well, Mentor?” Jiebo was momentarily stunned, as he remembered that Mentor was currently far away in the Endless Ocean. Yet, he could sense the happenings of the Whale Whisker Sea.
Jiebo stated, “Indeed, my water avatar is currently nearby. According to the fluctuations from the Omen Sign, it appears someone is there creating a spell.”
“A spell creation Vision Space, huh? It’s plausible,” Florence mused after a brief pause, “However, something about it feels a bit out of the ordinary.”
“Out of the ordinary?” Jiebo didn’t quite grasp Florence’s implication.
Florence hesitated, “I can’t shake the feeling that this manifestation of the World Will is somewhat different from previous occurrences. Maybe I’m overthinking. Regardless, if the chance presents itself, do endeavor to find out who’s undertaking this spell creation.”
For a mere formal wizard, the act of spell creation would likely pave the way for greater endeavors.
Jiebo nodded in agreement, wanting to mention that his water avatar couldn’t currently enter the range of the dark clouds. However, he found that Florence’s mental message had already faded from his earshot.
…
Florence wasn’t the sole entity aware of the circumstances at the Whale Whisker Sea.
At present, a select few at the pinnacle of the Southern Region Wizarding World were also subtly aware of the descent of the World Will on the other side of the ocean.
Yet, these individuals, having weathered many storms, either remained indifferent due to lack of interest, threw a casual glance, or observed with keen intrigue. Still, none were so curious as to delve deep into its core mysteries.
Some among them discerned that this Omen Sign’s origin lay in the art of Original Spell creation.
Disturbing others in their act of creating spells at such a juncture is nothing short of a faux pas. Even wizards of the most extreme temperament would refrain from such actions.
Their curiosity wasn’t particularly piqued by the specifics of the spell created, given that the Omen Sign did not seem especially powerful.
Yet, the fact that they hadn’t seen an Original Spell vision intertwined with the World Will for ages did arouse their curiosity about the individual behind this spell.
At this moment, within the Steampunk Theme Park in the Seventh Province of the Stone Sanders Dynasty…
Sanders was sitting opposite a young man, all smiles, within a wizard tower showing signs of rust and age.
The youth seemed as harmless as a lamb and his laughter exuded innocence. But taking in his presence at face value would be like walking into a lion’s den.
This “Neural Nomad” named Sterling was a wizard who embarked on the path of true knowledge six centuries before Sanders and was simultaneously an alchemist specializing in neural mechanical studies.
Sanders approached Sterling due to certain conditions pertaining to Jon. While Sterling’s expertise was mechanical nerves, he had a profound understanding of the human body. After all, his passion was transforming neural systems into mechanical ones — an endeavor impossible without comprehending the complete human anatomy.
Conversing with Sterling was refreshingly straightforward. Sanders quickly obtained the answers he sought and even gathered some bonus insights. The only hitch? Chatting with Sterling came with a hefty price tag.
Sterling was an extraordinarily money hungry wizard. To engage in a conversation with him, one had to pay their dues, regardless of who they were.
Sanders didn’t want to recount the exact toll he had to pay, but he found the answers from Sterling satisfactory.
As their chat neared its end and Sanders was about to take his leave, both men paused, taken aback.
From over the Whale Whisker Sea, the wave of descent of the World Will finally reached them.
