“What is commonly referred to as The ‘Power System’ is not solely restricted to external manifestations of strength. In actuality, it encompasses a variety of elements, including knowledge, cognition, spells, prospective expectations, and so forth… Even the interpretation of the world you mentioned and the external alchemical equipment fall under this system,” explained Sanders.
At the start of Sanders’ exposition on the Power System, Angel felt he had grasped the concept. However, as Sanders delved deeper, Angel became increasingly perplexed.
“The Power System is multifaceted. Think of it as a unique bookshelf belonging to you. What you place on this shelf determines its ultimate category. Some might stock it with books about music, others with cookbooks, and still others with historical texts…” Sanders elaborated.
“The bookshelf represents the framework of the entire system, essentially symbolizing your capabilities. The type of books you select represents your understanding, as well as the depth and breadth of your knowledge. The final category that emerges represents your unique system.”
Upon hearing this, Angel seemed to have a vague understanding of what Sanders was trying to convey.
“Knowledge is the soul of this system and holds paramount importance. Based on the structure and content of one’s knowledge, everyone’s initial Power System varies. As your understanding matures, your system will become increasingly comprehensive,” Sanders continued.
He went on to say, “Theoretically, the more knowledge one amasses over time, the more their Power Systems tend to resemble one another, the only difference being in understanding. Some wizards have postulated that when this system reaches its pinnacle, it essentially becomes… omniscient and omnipotent.”
While Sanders’ explanations were somewhat abstract, they contained numerous conceptual insights. Providing a clear-cut understanding might inadvertently lead Angel to create a Power System too similar to his own, losing its individuality.
Thus, everything Sanders spoke of was in hopes that Angel could intuitively grasp its essence.
Angel’s current state of comprehension was indeed as Sanders had anticipated. While he felt a bit muddled, he could vaguely discern Sanders’ intent. It was as if a seed was gradually swelling within his heart, radiating golden light and warmth. This seed had found its place in the tender soil of his heart, awaiting Angel to nourish it with knowledge, allowing it to slowly germinate and flourish…
“Each individual, due to their distinct Power Systems, perceives things differently. Even when using the same spell, their methods might vary… This requires your own interpretation.”
Sanders touched on this topic briefly, allowing Angel to ponder on his own.
What he referred to as the Power System is the understanding of oneself. It is the culmination of self-knowledge and also the long path to unravel the mysteries of the future.
Building your own Power System is essential. But establishing this system doesn’t signify the end; you have to continuously refine it over time. Just as Sanders mentioned about a bookshelf, it’s not only about expanding its capacity but also filling it with more books.
Sanders also had another point he didn’t voice out: Only after wizards construct their own Power System can they more easily comprehend the path ahead and swiftly embark on the journey of true knowledge.
Angel is already on the brink of that journey of true knowledge. Expressing this observation might be after the fact, so it’s best left unsaid.
Moreover, Sanders believed that given Angel’s acute sensitivity, when he begins to develop his own Power System, he would understand.
“How to establish your own Power System is something you can ponder upon later,” Sanders brought Angel back from his thoughts, “What I need to discuss now is what you’ll need to do once you become a formal wizard.”
Angel refocused, looking intently at Sanders.
In the subsequent time, Sanders began explaining the essentials for a formal wizard. This included system construction, opening of exile spaces, application of planar semi-passages, nurturing of elemental life… and he went on until he touched upon how the Nightmare Domain truly comes into play only after one becomes a formal wizard.
Angel listened with sparkling eyes.
The unknown transcendent realm always holds a certain allure, filled with curiosity and anticipation.
Angel felt as if he was transported back to many years ago. He sat in the carriage departing from Pat Mansion to Vichy Harbor. The outside world was shrouded in a howling cold wind and drifting snow, while the warmth from the furnace enveloped the inside of the carriage. Sitting beside him were siblings Alan and Alana, and facing them was Morrow. Morrow spoke with an aged voice, narrating tales of the Wizarding World, touching on the three main structures: the Mysterious, the Bloodline, and the Elemental. He also shared about mysterious spells, magical wizard organizations, and a world filled with hierarchical rules…
Through Morrow’s words, Angel saw a vision of a mysterious world. Although there was a touch of apprehension towards the unknown, his inner anticipation remained undiminished.
Now, Angel had not only entered this mysterious realm but had become a stalwart force in the Wizarding World. In the Southern Region, he even held a top-tier position of power.
Listening to Sanders’ tales of the things he was about to encounter, Angel’s heart still raced with excitement.
As long as the long journey doesn’t cease, this curiosity for the road ahead serves as the driving force for every wizard.
After an afternoon of storytelling, Sanders finally paused. Seeing the look of wanting more on Angel’s face, Sanders chuckled, “Let’s end it here for today. There’s a lot for you to digest and experiment with. We can continue another time.”
With a mere gesture, several thick volumes floated off a nearby shelf towards Sanders. Handing these to Angel, Sanders explained that the books contained supplementary information to the tales he’d shared and would be beneficial for Angel.
Once this was settled, they delved into other topics. Angel recounted what he had learned from Frost, detailing the gateway he had identified as a “target anchor” and its specific effects.
Learning that the gateway had only location-based functionalities, Sanders didn’t comment much. Instead, he quipped with a smile, “At least you saved on the cost of a spatial anchor.”
Compared to the target anchor, Sanders was genuinely more curious about the spell Angel had created.
He was well aware that there hadn’t been any indication of Angel developing new magic recently. So, why this sudden innovation?
Angel responded, “I’m not certain. Perhaps it’s the lingering effects from my last spell creation?”
Even without employing a truth-detection spell, Sanders could tell Angel was hiding something. However, he chose not to press the matter. After all, Angel was now a formal wizard; keeping certain secrets was expected.
If Sanders truly wanted to uncover the mystery, he mused, he could spar with Angel once his power fully stabilizes. That would likely provide some answers, provided Angel’s new spell had combat applications.
If it was purely functional magic, like Gloria’s creation magic, then it wouldn’t serve the purpose.
After their discussion, Angel voiced a question that had been on his mind: “Has Lady Gloria not emerged yet?”
They’d been at Black Castle for several days, witnessing monumental changes, including the obliteration of surface structures. Yet, aside from the encounter between Sparrow Blossom and Popoca, their primary objective remained unfulfilled.
“Not yet,” Sanders replied. “However, I received a message from Isabelle earlier. The energy fluctuations inside the Ice Cavern are diminishing. I believe Gloria will emerge soon.”
Angel sighed, hoping that once Gloria emerged, she might provide a solution to Toby’s issue.
“Besides an update about Gloria, Isabelle had another message for you,” Sanders looked at Angel. “She hopes, once you’re stable, that you’ll visit her.”
Angel nodded. He remembered Isabelle mentioning this right after his recent advancement.
Presumably, this was concerning the two Infant Spirits. Isabelle likely hoped that Angel could revert the Infant Spirits back to souls.
Angel had once assured Isabelle about this matter, so naturally, he wouldn’t decline.
They briefly discussed some trifling matters from the outside world. Angel intended to leave soon: firstly, he planned to take Mandara to the Wilderness of Dreams, and incidentally, to check on his brother’s competition status. Secondly, all the white light bullets in the Prelude of Reincarnation were exhausted. To aid Isabelle in turning the Infant Spirits back into souls, he needed to gather more white light bullets from outside.
As Angel, with Mandara ensnared in an illusion spell, was about to leave the Gravity Garden, Sanders suddenly said, “Wait, there’s another matter I’d like to discuss with you.”
