Chapter 1467 Woke Up <TOC> Chapter 1469 An Unattainable Goal
Translator: SumTLMan
In the third layer of the Abyss.
A massive figure gallops forward with sprightly steps.
Accompanied by the mellifluous strains of a violin and the subtle scent of a wine infused with ice and fire magic, this radiant figure journeys through lands shrouded in eternal darkness, scales mountains enveloped in twilight, and leaps over chilling, deep ravines. Eventually, it reaches a dense forest.
Such lush forests are exceedingly rare in the Abyss. What’s even more extraordinary is that beyond this forest lies a seemingly endless body of living water.
Upon reaching the water’s edge, the luminous figure finally slows down, revealing its true form.
It is a majestic white moose, as large as a small hill. Mists swirl around it, giving it an ethereal, dreamlike aura. Most astonishing of all are its intricately twisted antlers, between which float a kaleidoscopic mist, within which one can faintly discern the illusory visage of a city.
The enchanting violin music and rich aroma of wine emanate from this illusory city.
If Angel were here, he would likely recognize this Moose at first glance whom he had briefly encountered in the Nielgard Winter Palace as the Illusory Spirit Moose——Cassone.
This is the largest of the mystical beasts nurtured by the Frost Moon Alliance in the Abyss. Between the antlers of Cassone lies an alternate dimension known as Illusory City.
Within this Illusory City, a large contingent of Frost Moon Alliance wizards are stationed year-round, and there are even a few outposts from other wizard organizations.
In essence, Illusory City serves as a wizard market nestled within the depths of the Abyss.
And the existence of Cassone transforms this Illusory City into a bona fide mobile fortress.
At that moment, as Cassone meandered near the water’s edge, a fourteen or fifteen-year-old boy wearing a moose-antler hat came running out from Illusory City. Upon seeing the expansive body of water and the lush forest around him, the boy cheered with delight. Using Cassone’s antlers as a slide, he glided to the top of Cassone’s head, pressing his cheek against the soft fur.
“Thank you,” the boy didn’t vocalize but instead sent out a wave of mental energy.
Cassone responded with a skyward call, as if acknowledging his message.
“I heard from Mentor that the plans from the Abyss have been temporarily halted,” the boy said, looking a bit melancholic as he glanced at a notch on Cassone’s right antler — a remnant from a recent encounter with demons. “Once we reach Sky Island, we should be able to rest for a while,” he said in a humming tone while nuzzling Cassone. “You won’t face any more dangers there.”
Cassone didn’t vocalize a reply, but the fur on its head began to move. Each strand of fur acted like a gentle hand, tossing the boy into the air and catching him softly.
The boy, whose name was Trom, played and frolicked joyfully with Cassone for a while, when a shout from above interrupted them: “Trom, there you are. Mentor is calling for you; it seems there’s something you need to do.”
The one speaking was a brown-haired female apprentice who had walked out from Illusory City and stood in the center of the antlers, calling out to Trom.
Trom nodded, patting Cassone’s fur, “I have to go now, but I’ll be back to keep you company later.”
Cassone let out a soft call in acknowledgment.
Trom positioned himself between the antlers, looking ahead at Illusory City enveloped in a rainbow glow. With a graceful leap, like a frolicsome deer, he jumped into the shimmering light.
When Trom opened his eyes, he found himself on the streets of Illusory City.
The winding cobblestone path was flanked by buildings of various heights. Perhaps because the native inhabitants of the Abyss lived here, the architectural style leaned toward a more primitive motif.
Although the architecture is primitive, the place is filled with all kinds of magical hues due to the large number of wizards residing here.
Magical neon lights, exotic vehicles, alchemical automatons, and illusory beasts abound… offering an ever-changing tapestry of wonders.
Trom seemed very familiar with Illusory City and was not distracted by the kaleidoscopic surroundings. He ran straight toward the depths of the streets, head down.
Soon, Trom reached the end of Lance Avenue, where the tallest wizard tower in Illusory City stood. This is the headquarters of the Frost Moon Alliance and also the strategic core of Illusory City.
Trom’s mentor, the “Pale Witch” Queenie Sudar, resides here.
When Trom saw Queenie, she was resting her chin on the back of her hand, her pale blue eyes intently focused on a crystal ball on the table.
Energy was converging inside the crystal ball.
To a layperson, the arrangement of the energy would be unreadable. But to those with transcendent abilities, these fluctuating energies revealed a series of images.
Trom curiously glanced at the crystal ball and seemed to see a figure inside.
A handsome young man with golden hair and blue eyes.
Trom’s eyes brightened; he recognized the man. A few months ago, the Frost Moon Alliance had sent a message to Illusory City featuring this individual.
His name was Angel Pat.
Though Trom had never met Angel, after reading the message and especially after hearing about Angel’s exploits from his mentor Queenie, he held Angel — who was known as the top apprentice — in high regard.
Presumably, all peers who had heard of Angel’s deeds would find them astonishing. Even those who like to be contrary for its own sake, may not say it out loud, but they most certainly admired him in their hearts.
Angel, as an apprentice, not only ventured alone into the demon-infested city of La Sutherland but also brought along a fearsome Abyss Dragon, stirring the winds of change throughout the city. Just when everyone thought Angel had perished after his disappearance from La Sutherland, news broke that he was alive and well, not only returning to the Southern Region but also forming a friendship with a major figure in Ice Valley.
This is something even seasoned wizards couldn’t achieve, let alone something even Mengke, a person of high esteem, couldn’t manage to do.
An apprentice pulled it off!
All apprentices, even those from the Frost Moon Alliance, felt an inexplicable surge of excitement.
Trom was no exception; although he’s considered a prodigy and even shares a symbiotic pact with Cassone, his admiration for Angel is no less than that of any other apprentice.
However, Trom’s admiration is quite similar to that of Glen; while he admires Angel, what he truly yearns to do is to defeat him.
Defeating the goal he holds in his heart, replacing it, and then setting higher goals for himself!
Regrettably, although he is eager to challenge Angel, Angel is not currently in the Abyss, and he cannot make his way to the Southern Region at this time…
“Mentor, did you call me here for something?” Although Trom verbally asks, his eyes are glued to the crystal ball.
Queenie, noticing Trom’s gaze, can’t help but chuckle, “What, are you curious about the news that has come in?”
Scratching his hair awkwardly that’s peeking out from under his antler hat, Trom nods sheepishly, “Is it about Angel?”
Queenie nods without denying, “Yes, that’s correct.”
“What specifically is the news?” Trom’s eyes light up.
Queenie doesn’t immediately respond, but instead shifts the conversation, “Do you still consider Angel as the goal you want to challenge?”
Trom nodded emphatically, signaling his determination.
Queenie raised an eyebrow ever so slightly, “Alright, I can offer you an opportunity.”
Confused, Trom looked at Queenie.
With a subtle wave of her hand, Queenie conjured an image from the outside world: Cassone walking along a body of water, surrounded by a dense forest.
After pondering for a moment, Queenie murmured to herself, “Already at the Thousand Falls region, huh? Sky Island isn’t far off now.”
Queenie lifted her head to look at Trom, “Here’s the deal. Once you’ve delivered the supplies to Sky Island, deliver a letter for me to Lady Sineva. After you complete this task, you’ll be free to go to the Southern Region to participate in the Novastar Competition.”
“And who knows, you may get a chance to face off against Angel,” Queenie added, her tone tinged with intrigue.
Trom’s eyes lit up, unable to believe his ears. One moment he was lamenting his inability to challenge Angel in the Southern Region, and the next his mentor had presented him with such an astonishing opportunity.
“Mentor, are you serious? You’re not fooling me, are you?” Trom needed to confirm once more, his disbelief evident.
Queenie nodded, “No tricks. However, there is a condition.”
Trom quickly nodded, “What’s the condition?”
“You have three years. If you can defeat Angel within that time, I’ll arrange an opportunity for you to access the ‘Chapter of the Moon.’ If you fail to meet this objective within three years, you will face a small penalty.”
“What kind of penalty?”
With a mischievous smile, Queenie reassured him, “Don’t worry, it won’t be too severe. Do you really think your mentor would set a trap for you?”
Reflecting on his years with Queenie, Trom concluded that she had never truly betrayed him — although she had, perhaps inadvertently, led him into a Demon Monastery or made him sign a symbiotic contract with Cassone while his body was deteriorating… Despite these seemingly questionable moves on Queenie’s part, Trom acknowledged that he was ultimately the one who benefited.
With this thought, Trom nodded in agreement.
Upon confirming that he could participate in the Novastar Competition in the Southern Region, Trom felt elated. However, he failed to notice the malicious smile that tugged at the corners of Queenie’s mouth from behind.
Though Cassone appeared to be merely strolling, he was already near Sky Island. Before long, he arrived in the vicinity.
Trom received a magical letter from Queenie’s hand.
The letter contained no visible writing, yet faint energies surfaced from it, suggesting it was encrypted.
“I’ve calculated the time; the registration deadline for the Novastar Competition is fast approaching. To save time, I’ve already informed Lady Sineva in the letter. When the time comes, you can be transported directly to the Southern Region through a newly created special channel,” said Queenie.
“Does that mean I don’t need to return?” Trom hesitated. If he left now, what would happen to Cassone?
Seeming to read Trom’s mind, Queenie chuckled, “Exactly. Don’t worry about Cassone; I’ll take care of him while you’re away. But don’t forget our agreement. I’m looking forward to the day you successfully complete the challenge.”
