“Halt.” A heavy spear plummeted from the sky, embedding itself in the ground. Spiderweb-like cracks radiated outward from the point where the spear struck the smooth pavement.

A spirited woman in a long armored gown transformed into a bolt of red lightning, landing atop the handle of the lodged spear. From her elevated position, she gazed down at her opponent——

A young girl dressed like a circus magician.

Wearing a black-and-white striped magician’s hat, sporting pink hair, a pure white complexion, and a cross symbol painted under her eyes, she was adorned with a red-checkered bow tie and velvety shoulder wrap.

What drew the most attention was a rose-patterned teapot floating beside the girl’s feet. The lid of the teapot bobbed gently, occasionally revealing a small opening from which a pair of tiny eyes could barely be seen.

The girl clearly hadn’t expected to be intercepted. Her eyes widened in surprise. “Divine Dress Maiden, Carvelyn?”

Onlookers began murmuring as they noticed Carvelyn’s appearance.

Carvelyn had been hailed by the chief editor of —City Firefly’s Night Whisper— as one of the potential rising stars capable of reaching the pinnacle in the Novastar Competition! Moreover, she ranked within the top ten in Sky Mechanical City’s universally acknowledged list of new talents, a true supernova contender!

“Have I offended you in some way?” The Magician Girl initially took a step back, seemingly conceding to Carvelyn’s imposing presence. But in the next moment, her eyes flickered, and the tone of her voice shifted. “Or should I say, have I offended you in the past? I apologize; my memory isn’t very good, and I often overlook the lamentations of the weak. Are you one of them?”

The magician girl’s voice lilted upwards, her lips curling in what appeared to be a sincere inquiry, yet her tone was tinged with mocking disdain.

A collective gasp echoed through the crowd as her words settled.

Who is this person? Daring to provoke Carvelyn? Is she thoughtless or simply ignorant? No, that’s not right; she mentioned Carvelyn’s name without hesitation. She must be fully aware of who Carvelyn is.

Or perhaps she’s just incredibly audacious?

However, Carvelyn’s expression remained unphased by her words, casting her a cold, sidelong glance. “You know exactly what you’ve done. If you don’t want to lose an arm or a leg, hand over the stolen items.”

The Young Magician Girl looked wronged. “I have no idea what you’re talking about. I’ve never stolen anything; people give things to me of their own accord.”

At that moment, a slightly immature voice suddenly shouted from the roof nearby, “I never gave you the Beast-Slaying Knife! You said you’d just take a look and then you ran off! You don’t keep your promises!”

Following the source of the sound, they saw a chubby boy whose eyebrows were knitted in layers of disapproval.

At the end of the street, Angel paused when he saw the speaker.

This chubby boy was someone he knew very well. It was Alan, who had left the Old Land Continent with him to enter the Wizarding World.

Because of the Novastar Competition, it wasn’t surprising that Alan would appear in Sky Mechanical City. But seeing him mingling with Carvelyn and others was indeed curious.

“When have I ever broken a promise? I said I’d borrow it to take a look, but never said when I’d return it,” the young magician girl said, even more wronged, her eyes welling with tears. The elegant teapot at her feet flew up to her cheek and nuzzled her, as if comforting her.

Seeing the girl cry, Alan’s initially soaring rage deflated somewhat. “Well, how long will you borrow it?”

“Until…” A sly glint flashed in the young magician girl’s dark eyes, “you decide to give it to me.”

Alan paused, then reflexively retorted, “It’s a gift from my mentor. There’s no way I could give it to you!”

“If you die, then I won’t have to give it back, will I? That’s quite the gift.” The young magician girl smirked, a chilling glint flashing across her eyes.

At the same moment, an eerie aura emanated from her, filling the air.

To Alan’s perception, her stature seemed to swell, as if she transformed into a giant. Her eyes, painted with crucifixes, leered at him menacingly.

Alan knew she was powerful, but he didn’t expect her to be this formidable. Under the weight of her aura, his legs trembled, and he found himself struggling to breathe, as if he were drowning.

However, she quickly retracted her intimidating aura.

Others didn’t sense the anomaly, but Alan and Carvelyn, who was in close proximity, picked up on it.

“Though I relish the wails of the weak, I don’t kill, you know~ So don’t worry. I won’t kill you. I’ll just wait for you to die naturally, then the Beast-Slaying Knife will be mine,” the magician girl cheerily declared.

“You… you’re toying with me!”

“Yes, indeed,” the young magician girl articulated, enunciating every word, “I. Am. Toying. With. You.”

Seeing Alan’s face flushed with anger, Carvelyn muttered “idiot” under her breath, then icily glared at the magician girl, “You’re not a gourmet wizard; the Beast-Slaying Knife would be useless to you. I’ll give you one last chance. Hand it over, or face the consequences.”

“So what if I’m not a gourmet wizard?” The magician girl lifted her head, looking toward Carvelyn who stood resolute atop her heavy cannon. “I like objects imbued with emotions, much like that divine dress you’re wearing.”

Carvelyn’s expression darkened instantaneously.

“Of course, I wouldn’t dare to take your Shepherd God Robe now. But once I’m certain the Shepherd God is truly dead, I’ll ‘borrow’ it from you,” she added, emphasizing the word ‘borrow’ and winking provocatively at Carvelyn.

At her audacious words, the crowd around them retreated several meters in an instant.

Even Alan was stunned. He had been hanging out with Carvelyn and Sunisha these past few days and knew all too well the taboos concerning Carvelyn. Coveting divine dress was one thing, but openly questioning whether the Shepherd God was dead… That was a surefire way to completely offend Carvelyn!

The law enforcement officers who were covertly observing nearby were also taken aback by her audacity.

“Who in the world is she? Making a statement like that is a direct affront to the Shepherd God’s family!” said an law enforcement officer hidden in a tall clock tower, visibly shocked.

“I don’t know, but I think she participated in the Novastar Competition,” another officer replied.

“However, neither the —City Firefly’s Night Whisper— nor the Novastar rankings have any information on her.”

It was as if she had appeared out of nowhere — a person who had sprung into existence abruptly.

“She does have some credentials,” a deep voice chimed in from above at that moment.

The officers looked up and saw a burly man standing at the top of the clock tower. “Lord Sabo!” The law enforcement team members bowed their heads in unison to greet him.

“No need for formalities,” Sabo paused, “You all want to know who she is, don’t you? She is actually…”

Sabo spoke softly, but all the officers heard him clearly. Upon learning her identity, they were all dumbfounded. They never expected someone of such high standing to be behind her!

They were relieved that they had merely been spectating and hadn’t intervened; otherwise, offending her would have led to subsequent troubles.

However, they were still members of the law enforcement team. Failing to act would be a violation of the rules set by Lord Rosen.

With this in mind, they turned their eyes toward Sabo. As mere apprentices, they couldn’t stop her, nor could they beat her, but Sabo was a formal wizard…

Sabo chuckled and said, “I’m not responsible for this area; what happens here is none of my business.”

The implication was that, like everyone else, he was just there to watch the spectacle unfold.

Sabo looked down with a beaming smile. The force behind the young magician girl was indeed formidable, but the family backing the Divine Dress Maiden was no less impressive, even more enigmatic. If they truly engaged in combat, it would be a battle worthy of the Novastar Competition finals. Why bother intervening when you can enjoy the show?

At that moment on the street, after the young magician girl made her audacious remarks, a cloud of darkness seemed to cover Carvelyn’s face as if it could drip water.

Originally, Carvelyn was just looking to reclaim the kitchen tool for her chef. But now, she was genuinely murderous.

“You. Are. Dead!” Carvelyn leapt from her heavy spear.

With her movement, her armor underwent a magical transformation. By the time she landed, a pair of steel wings had sprouted from her back.

Waving her hand, a heavy spear — taller than she was — fell into her grip.

Her steel wings fluttered, propelling her forward with a surge of boundless energy. The spearhead spun like a drill, transforming into a meteor that the naked eye could hardly catch, charging towards the young magician girl.

The magician girl showed no fear, her lips adorned with a laugh that resembled a melodic chant. This only enraged Carvelyn further.

As the spear penetrated her body, its spiraled tip immediately sucked up a large amount of liquid.

At first, everyone thought that the liquid was the magician girl’s flesh and blood, splattering all around.

But upon closer inspection, they realized that the liquid was just ordinary water. The magician girl had conjured an aquatic avatar, and her true self had already appeared elsewhere.

Smiling from ear to ear, the magician girl tenderly stroked a floating teapot beside her. The spout of the pot immediately spewed a furious water tornado, aimed directly at Carvelyn.

With a cold snort, Carvelyn wrapped herself in her steel wings. The force of the water vortex merely pushed her back a step, utterly failing to break through her feathered shield.

Seizing the opportunity to counterattack, Carvelyn lunged back into the magician girl’s body. However, as she did, a mocking voice rang in her ears, “You can’t find me~”

As the words echoed, the magician girl’s body exploded, once again erupting into a torrent of water splashes. Another water avatar!

Carvelyn blocked the waves that engulfed her. When her vision cleared, she found that hundreds of young magician girls had appeared — some perched on shop window ledges, others dangling their feet from rooftops, and still others leaning against walls… A chorus of eerie laughter filled the air.

“Crude tactics,” Carvelyn muttered. Her steel wings began to spin her in mid-air. With the appearance of afterimages, countless steel feathers rained down like a storm.

Each magician girl struck by the feathers transformed into yet another water avatar.

When Carvelyn ceased her aerial barrage, the battlefield was a ruin — riddled with holes and cracks. All the water avatars had vanished, leaving not a trace.

Yet, there was no real body to be found. As if it had vanished into thin air.

Still, the scornful laughter of the young magician girl continued to echo in her ears.
