The next day.

Angel once again arrived at Bliss Pavilion.

Today marks the semi-finals of the Novastar Competition, divided into two matches. The morning will see Hilary against Onassis, and the afternoon pits Azaz against Trom. Although Angel still believes Hilary’s odds of winning aren’t high, he plans on attending nonetheless.

Upon reaching Bliss Pavilion, Hilary was unusually awake ahead of time, but her expression still appeared somewhat disoriented.

Angel inquired about Hilary’s battle tactics, but her response was decidedly bewildered.

“Tactics… I haven’t thought about it. I’ve heard of Onassis’ abilities, but I don’t know how to counter them. I’ll just play it by ear,” she said.

This was quite in line with Hilary’s character. As a gifted individual in water transformation, she perhaps also inherited some of the elemental will of water. She herself is not particularly fond of combat; for her, making it to the semi-finals was already beyond her expectations. Even if she is eliminated here, she feels the journey has been worth it.

Angel didn’t dwell on the matter. If he were in Hilary’s shoes, he wouldn’t know how to tackle Onassis either. Besides, the dynamics of battle are often unpredictable, and adaptability might just be the better course of action.

After the brief conversation with Hilary, Angel located Alan.

Alan was seated by the window, holding in his mouth a straw that produced an abundant flow of cool, icy water, as he stared off into the azure sky, lost in thought.

It wasn’t until Angel approached that Alan finally snapped back to reality.

“I’ve already looked into news about Alana,” Angel cut straight to the chase, and Alan’s eyes slowly transitioned from vacant to focused.

“Where is she now? Is she still in Sky Mechanical City?” Alan asked, his face filled with anticipation.

Angel shook his head and said, “I’m not sure if she’s here, but according to the information I’ve received, Alana has not participated in the Novastar Competition.”

Alan responded, puzzled, “She’s not competing?”

“Correct. At least, there’s no record of her in Sky Tower and Infinite Battle Tower of Sky Mechanical City. However, her participation might be recorded in Sky Tower of White Coral Floating Island College, but as you know, Sky Tower information across different locations is not updated in real-time.”

This information was relayed to him by Glen in the morning. Glen had no reason to deceive him, so it was certain that Alana had not participated in the Novastar Competition in Sky Mechanical City.

But whether she had come here or not was another question. After all, Sky Mechanical City was not just a financial hub; it had a highly transient population as well.

Upon hearing this, Alan’s eyes, which had been shimmering with hope, dimmed once again.

If he hadn’t heard that Alana was going to participate in the Novastar Competition, he might not have worried about whether she had come to Sky Mechanical City or not. But since he had heard the news from Morrow… Alan was even more concerned that something might have happened to her en route.

Seeing Alan’s worried expression, Angel thought for a moment and then took out his communication device to contact Glen.

A short while later, Angel told Alan, “If you’re really concerned, you can go to this address and look for a wizard apprentice named Glen. He can allow you to use the signal tower to contact people at the White Coral Floating Island College. You could then check on Alana’s status with Morrow through this connection.”

Angel wrote an address on a piece of paper and handed it to Alan.

“However, you’ll need to bear the cost if you want to use the signal tower.”

Alan took the paper, looking gratefully at Angel and repeatedly expressing his thanks. As someone who had once worked part-time at the Butterfly Bar as a gourmet apprentice, he could certainly afford the signal tower fee. Unfortunately, he hadn’t previously had the qualification to use it. Now that Angel had facilitated this for him, he was deeply grateful.

After receiving the note, Alan immediately said his farewells and hurriedly left Bliss Pavilion.

Once Alan had departed, the gathering at Bliss Pavilion, including Shalem, all emerged from their rooms to head to Infinite Battle Tower to cheer for Hilary in her match.

Upon reaching Infinite Battle Tower, Angel parted ways with them. This time, he planned to watch the match as a special guest judge, and incidentally, he was curious to hear what the other members of the judging panel had to say about Onassis.

The much-anticipated semi-final officially kicked off at 10 in the morning.

To Angel’s surprise, among the permanent judges, he once again encountered an old acquaintance——Midorla’s disciple, “Mad Bear” Sabo.

Sabo proactively moved his floating seat closer to Angel’s. Before Angel could speak, Sabo said, “I thought you would only come for the finals. I didn’t expect you to act as a judge today.”

“I’m quite curious about this Onassis, so I came to take a look. Besides, his opponent hails from our Savage Grottoes, so naturally, I’d pay extra attention,” Angel paused before asking Sabo, “Speaking of which, what’s your opinion on this Onassis?”

Mentioning Onassis, Sabo sighed and shook his head. “His abilities are peculiar, but they don’t seem to be innate talents. I have some speculations, but I can’t confirm them.”

“Using philosophy as a spear?” Angel tentatively suggested.

Sabo looked somewhat surprised but nodded. “Exactly. We suspect he uses philosophy as a weapon, but I’ve never heard of such an ability before, so I can’t say for sure.”

Angel responded, “The world is full of strange and unique abilities. Wielding the spear of philosophy is indeed a possibility. Just like back in the day, without the Magic Painter, who would have known that a painting could also be its own separate world?”

“Indeed, but embarking on such a unique path, where no one has blazed the trail before, requires forging one’s own way through thorns and thistles. Onassis’s courage is something I admire,” Sabo exclaimed.

“Earlier, you mentioned that you still can’t confirm his abilities. Haven’t you inquired with the players who have competed against Onassis?” Angel curiously asked.

Sabo replied, “We have, but it’s all quite puzzling. Coincidentally, my wayward apprentice has also faced Onassis.”

“You’re talking about Bismarck?”

Sabo nodded, “Bismarck has returned to Sky Mechanical City to participate in the Novastar Competition, but he didn’t even pass the preliminary round. The main reason is that he encountered Onassis.”

After his match with Onassis, Bismarck was left completely perplexed, unaware of what had transpired.

He faintly remembered that during the match, he suddenly felt a yearning for ‘freedom.’

However, this notion of freedom was not a literal one; it seemed to imply a complete liberation from the flesh, and even the mind. Because at the time, he felt as though even his thoughts were restricted.

If the medical team hadn’t intervened in time, he would have likely harmed himself.

“What happened after that?”

“There’s nothing more to say. After the match, Bismarck only had a vague recollection of what took place on the stage. Perhaps that’s for the best, so as to avoid becoming ensnared in inexplicable philosophical speculations,” Sabo explained.

Because players tend to forget what happened during the match, it’s challenging to ascertain Onassis’s specific abilities.

Nevertheless, it seems to mainly fall under the scope of ‘utilizing philosophy as a means of attack.’

“Perhaps Hydra knows something? However, Hydra attends every match but seldom discusses Onassis within the panel of judges,” Sabo said, glancing over at Hydra who was not far away.

Hydra’s eyes remained closed, but he seemed to sense Sabo’s gaze. Turning his head towards Angel, he subtly nodded, acknowledging their presence.

Angel initially wanted to inquire further about Onassis’s match performance, but at that moment, the screen above the arena displayed… The match has ended.
