Gloria’s training was proceeding in an orderly fashion. Angel watched for a moment before preparing to head back to his room.
However, just as Angel was about to rise, the manor’s grand door was knocked open.
Led by Butler Number 1, Azaz, clothed in a black wizard’s robe, entered the room.
Having decided to become part of the Barbie Restaurant, Azaz was currently residing in a magical cottage temporarily erected by the lake, near Gloria.
Upon entering, Azaz found the scene before him familiar. He was already aware of Toby’s identity and Gloria’s purpose for training him. After offering his greetings to Gloria and Angel, he prepared to head back to the magical cottage.
“Why have you decided to venture out today, given that you normally stay indoors?” Gloria looked at Azaz, her eyes imbued with curiosity. Toby’s training had just concluded its initial phase.
Azaz, who had initially harbored immense resentment towards Gloria, changed his attitude dramatically after learning of her true identity. He now emanated an aura of respect and reverence, verging on zealous devotion.
Azaz respectfully replied, “I was initially planning to continue my research on the recipes that my lord has provided me for the restaurant. However, today I have a match, so I have to temporarily set aside the recipes.”
“A match?” A light bulb seemed to go off in Angel’s mind. After losing to Trom, Azaz probably had only one match left.
“Is your match today against Hilary?”
“Hilary? You mean Sleepy Trickle to Flowing Stream?” Azaz nodded, “Yes, today is the match between her and me.”
Angel curiously inquired, “Who won?”
Azaz wore a slight look of embarrassment, “I lost.”
This outcome did take Angel by surprise. According to his estimations, Azaz should have had a high chance of winning against Hilary, unless… “You didn’t use your demon power?”
Azaz nodded. Gloria had previously had a lengthy discussion with him, stating that while he could borrow the power of the demon, he should refrain from revealing it in such a competition. This was to minimize any complications it could bring for wizards specializing in gourmet magic.
“I see,” Angel realized. Without invoking his demon power, it would be impossible for Azaz to beat Hilary.
Nevertheless, even though Azaz lost, he still ranked fourth in the Novastar Competition. Given the bountiful style of Infinite Battle Tower, the final rewards would certainly be substantial. Moreover, it showcased the strength of gourmet wizards to other specializations.
After inquiring about Azaz’s match with Hilary, Angel asked about the outcomes of other competitions as well.
In the match between Cherie and Carvelyn, Cherie won. Carvelyn had just recovered and wasn’t at her peak physical condition. Additionally, the last time she wore her Space-Time Witch Suit, she had an encounter with a demon that left her somewhat traumatized. In the end, Cherie won without much effort.
As for the match between Jiebo and Suyatutai, it was rather dramatic. Jiebo didn’t show up, leading to Suyatutai’s automatic victory.
No one knew why Jiebo opted not to compete. One could only speculate that he may not have fully recovered from the physical toll of his loss to Hilary, or perhaps he felt his reputation tarnished by the loss and decided to withdraw from the Novastar Competition.
That being said, the final match became a contest between Cherie and Suyatutai to determine who would take fifth place.
At this point, Azaz paused briefly, “However, the Shadowflame Witch and Philosopher also did not participate in their match today.”
Angel queried, “Cherie also didn’t compete?”
Shadowflame is Cherie’s nickname.
Azaz nodded, his expression tinged with a hint of melancholy: “Yes, not only did they skip the competition, but just moments ago, they got into a scuffle at Fragrant Plaza with the Son of the Ocean.”
Cherie got into a fight with Jiebo? Angel suddenly recalled the inexplicable gust of wind that had blown by earlier. Could that have been the turbulent aftermath of Cherie’s battle with Jiebo?
After briefly pondering, Angel surmised Cherie’s state of mind.
Initially, when Cherie competed against Trom, she chose to concede. Angel guessed that the reason for this was that Jiebo had lost to Hilary. If Cherie wanted to encounter Jiebo in the arena, her only option was to keep up her Farce and lose intentionally.
However, Jiebo surprisingly didn’t compete afterward.
This resulted in Cherie’s opponent being Suyatutai, which was something she couldn’t possibly tolerate.
Given that she couldn’t face Jiebo openly in the arena, it was only natural that Cherie, true to her character, would opt to take matters into her own hands privately.
Cherie has a condition of autism; ordinarily, she might exercise some restraint. However, when fueled by anger, she disregards both time and place, pursuing her course with single-minded determination.
“So, what happened next?” Angel inquired further. “What was the outcome of Cherie and Jiebo’s fight?”
Azaz shook his head: “I didn’t go to Fragrant Plaza. The area is already flooded by seawater, and the enforcement team has sealed off that section. So, I don’t have any details on the situation.”
While saying this, Azaz also cast a glance at Shirley, who was some distance away.
Last time, Shirley had just narrowly flooded a street. But this time, the battle between Jiebo and Cherie had genuinely inundated an entire plaza.
Angel nodded, choosing not to inquire further. Instead, he shifted his gaze towards the lush plaza. He hadn’t paid attention when the wind had blown earlier, not wanting to expend energy, but now that he suspected it had something to do with Cherie, he took a good look.
And that look made his eyelids twitch.
Just hearing Azaz’s description had made him think the situation might have escalated. But actually seeing it, he realized it was far more than just a simple escalation.
The plaza was nearly obliterated. Except for the head of a statue representing an ancient master alchemist in the field of aromatic studies, the rest had been transformed into a vast ocean.
Though Sky Mechanical City had taken emergency measures to contain the sea within a certain boundary, the spectacle was still astonishing.
Luckily, the plaza was a gathering place for alchemists specializing in aromatic studies. From shop owners to pedestrians, everyone there was extraordinary. The damage should not be as grave as what Shirley had caused last time, which led to many mortal casualties.
However, this was an alchemical hub… with the flooding being this extensive, the losses would certainly surpass that of Shirley’s previous incident.
Starting today, it’s likely that the aromatic circle in the entire Southern Region would permanently blacklist Jiebo and Cherie.
Last time Shirley had caused a commotion, the Water Ripple Witch had helped her barely manage the situation. Angel had thought, as a friend to Cherie, that he could similarly step in to mitigate the disaster. But seeing the actual state of things, Angel felt his head grow heavy with concern.
Even if he’s willing to cover for her, those alchemists specializing in aromatic studies are likely not going to let Cherie off the hook.
The same goes for Jiebo, of course.
Angel’s gaze continues to scan the vast expanse, hoping to locate Cherie and Jiebo. However, there’s no trace of either of them. All he sees are numerous law enforcers cleaning up the aftermath and wizards in aromatic alchemy robes hurling curses in frustration.
It appears that both Cherie and Jiebo have likely been subdued by the authorities of Sky Mechanical City.
Rubbing his temples, Angel ponders for a moment before deciding it’s worth inquiring further.
He takes out his communicator, preparing to get in touch with Antonio. Although Antonio serves as a guardian spirit for the Research Institute, he holds considerable sway within Sky Mechanical City. One could even say that Antonio represents the standpoint of the Research Institute.
However, just as Angel is about to contact Antonio, Sanders suddenly appears in the courtyard.
“Mentor?” Angel looks at Sanders, puzzled, wondering what brings him out.
Sanders merely says, with an air of detachment, “Canter has arrived.”
