Chapter 782 The So-Called Treasure

Chapter 781 The Vertical Pupils Behind the Gate <TOC> Chapter 783 Escape from Desolation

Behind the gate, the vertical pupils were filled with icy and ruthless emotions, scanning the dark landscape without restraint.

Angel was startled.

He understood that if he didn’t take some protective measures, he would be exposed to the Leviathan’s gaze. Being watched by a rampaging Leviathan was by no means a good thing.

Taking advantage of the fact that the Leviathan hadn’t noticed him yet, Angel dropped straight down, landing on the ground. Then, he set up a faint illusion effect around himself, blending with the desolate land around him. Simultaneously, he fully activated Boundless Silence, making his body appear nearly invisible.

However, even so, Angel still felt a bit uneasy. This island, which seemed vast before, now felt exposed when the dawn light came in. Looking at the surrounding terrain, which had hardly any cover, Angel’s heartbeat pounded like a drum. He felt anxious and apprehensive.

Although the Leviathan’s mental perception was weak, this landscape was too vast. There was no place to hide, and the illusion nodes floated freely in the air. If the Leviathan sensed the fluctuation of the illusion nodes, it would probably notice something amiss.

“I must find cover to evade the Leviathan’s gaze,” Angel thought calmly, directing his body through thought in this critical moment.

He turned his neck, observing the surroundings, seeking favorable terrain.

Suddenly, he spotted a depression in the ground not far away.

The earthquake had already stopped by now, and the island’s topography had completely changed. The place that Angel noticed used to be a mountain ridge. Tulas had purposely run here before to hide in the concealed space inside the mountain.

Now, the mountain was gone, leaving only a not-too-narrow crevice exposed.

Angel thought fast. If his guess was right, there should be a concealed space under the depression. Tulas had hidden there before.

Staying on the surface would make it extremely easy to be noticed by the Leviathan. Even an illusion for cover would not be a solution. Boundless Silence wasn’t invisibility per se, it merely weakened one’s presence, so there was still a chance of being discovered.

At the moment, Angel believed that the safest method was to hide in the depression.

With this thought, Angel immediately moved. Although the Leviathan’s attention hadn’t shifted here yet, there was still not much time left for him.

Angel slowly climbed, moving toward the depression. In the process, he had to avoid the rolling boulders caused by the aftershocks of the earthquake, which was extremely perilous. Fortunately, everything seemed to go smoothly. Just as the Leviathan’s gaze was about to sweep over the central area, Angel had already reached the edge of the depression.

With a slight roll, he fell into the darkness.

Beyond the sinkhole, only an inconspicuous scout puppet remained, serving as the eyes of Angel.

As he tumbled into the sinkhole, Angel didn’t neglect to activate his purification field, preventing the pheromones around him from dispersing into the dust. After several seconds of rolling in the darkness, he finally landed.

There was still a sense of pressure underground, but compared to the surface, Angel’s danger sense was significantly reduced.

He stood up and, aided by the light shield inherent to the purification field, began to survey his surroundings.

This was clearly a carved-out tunnel, its structural integrity seemed sound, although some debris had fallen, Angel had yet to see any sign of a significant blockage.

It seemed likely that Tulas had been hiding somewhere in this tunnel.

After confirming that there was no immediate danger, Angel connected with the scout puppet left on the surface. Through the puppet’s vision, he observed the situation in the sky.

The Leviathan continued to patrol this space, but Angel noticed something: the Leviathan was not only inspecting the world inside the “gate”, but also harboring ill intentions towards the “gate” itself.

Angel could see that the Leviathan was trying to tear the gate apart with energy.

Each attempt at tearing caused an energy upheaval in this space.

Now Angel could approximately guess what had caused the previous earthquake. It was possible that the Leviathan’s attacks on this space were causing unprecedented earthquakes inside this world.

While Angel was observing the Leviathan, he suddenly heard some peculiar sounds.

The Leviathan was focused on inspecting the inside of the gate, so its roar became softer until it was completely silent. This provided Angel with the opportunity to hear other sounds from behind the “gate”. He listened carefully and heard the sound of waves and a peculiar sound emitted by the pulse of an oceanic law.

Oceanic pulse, a force of law similar to gravity lines. It was unlikely that the Leviathan could master it, more likely, someone else was present…

Angel had once heard from Sanders that there were few individuals like him who owned a wizard garden, but there were exceptions, such as the Song of the Deep Sea, also known as “Sea God” Florence.

Florence had a mid-low level wizard garden, called “Ocean Paradise”. Through this wizard garden, Florence had comprehended the oceanic pulse.

A chill ran through Angel’s heart, it seemed his previous concerns were not unfounded. Behind the “gate” was not just the Leviathan, perhaps those from the Song of the Deep Sea and Summer Dew Ridge were present too.

Angel could only feel a sense of anxiety. At present, no one had entered from the “gate”, perhaps due to the Leviathan’s presence, or perhaps the “gate” had only opened a crack. Although the situation hadn’t deteriorated to the worst point, Angel believed that it wouldn’t be long before someone would enter this space from the gate.

If he has not left by then, his fate would undoubtedly be dire. Time was not on his side; Angel had to devise a plan to swiftly return to the cave beneath the cliff and leave this area through the teleportation formation. However, he currently could not venture out as the Leviathan’s pupil had not left the slit in the sky.

Angel speculated in secret, surely the Leviathan wouldn’t keep its gaze fixated on the slit forever. As soon as it shifted its attention, he would seize the opportunity to return beneath the cliff. His only solace at the moment was the scouting puppet he had previously obtained, without which he would be oblivious to the situation outside. Moreover, the crafting of alchemical creations only consumed internal energy and did not require the harnessing of energy between heaven and earth. This way, he wouldn’t alert the Leviathan.

While Angel kept tabs on the Leviathan’s movement through the scouting puppet, Toby suddenly called out by his ear. Angel turned towards Toby with a puzzled look. Toby was floating in mid-air, his wings pointing towards Angel’s… back.

Behind him? Angel turned around and saw a dark tunnel at his back. But there was nothing distinguishable in the inky blackness.

“What is it?” Angel asked Toby, while simultaneously monitoring the situation outside.

Toby let out a soft chirp.

“You’re saying, a golden light flashed deep within the tunnel just now?” Angel tentatively translated.

Toby nodded, then asked if Angel wanted to go take a look.

“Golden light? This is where Tulas previously hid. Perhaps it holds Tulas’s treasures, or maybe Lucas’s? Of course, it’s also possible that they are one and the same, given the suspicious details in Lucas’s voyage log.”

Angel sent his spiritual consciousness into the Cathedral of the Dead, hoping to get a glimpse of Tulas’s situation. If he had awakened, it would be best to glean some clues about the golden light from him. Regrettably, even though Tulas’s ghost was somewhat unique, the process of transforming into a soul still required time. Tulas was currently lying in a corner of the Cathedral, with no signs of awakening. The good news was that there were no signs of disintegration either.

Since no clues could be obtained from Tulas, Angel thought it over. Even if the treasures inside were indeed Tulas’s, it wouldn’t hurt to take a look.

In any case, as long as the Leviathan averted its gaze, he would surely accelerate away using the gravity lines. With the speed boost provided by the gravity lines, even if he ventured thousands of meters inside, escaping would only take a matter of seconds.

With this in mind, Angel nodded, “Let’s go take a look. I, too, am curious to find out if the true secret of this alternate dimension space is hidden within.”

This space, capable of attracting the presence of entities as profound as the Sea God, was undoubtedly extraordinary. The question remained, however, whether its secret was hidden deep within this passageway.

Angel followed the dark tunnel further inward, simultaneously keeping an eye on the Leviathan’s movements through his scouting puppet.

Shortly, he arrived at the deepest part of the tunnel, where a cramped room awaited. Inside, there was a stone bed, a chair, and some decaying wooden products. Additionally, various odds and ends were scattered about, although most were already damaged.

Beside the stone bed, there was even a chilling skull placed ominously.

Angel didn’t find anything that glowed gold in here, but a quick sweep with his mental tendrils revealed a space behind the bed partitioned by a wooden board.

It wasn’t a large space, and its contents were unclear. But when Angel extended a luminescent stone into the area using his mental powers, he was taken aback. Inside, against all odds, was a… treasure trove.

Countless gold coins were stacked in chests, flashing with dazzling gold light.

Gold and silver treasures, swords studded with pearls, precious utensils, heirloom masterpieces, and artistic creations of masters, among other things, were all gathered in one place. Even Angel, who had little desire for worldly gold coins, was stunned.

“It appears this is Tulas’s treasure,” Angel sighed, stirring the treasure a bit with his mental tendril, “Regrettably, it’s all mundane…”

As for the gold light Toby saw, Angel didn’t find any luminous objects here. Could Toby have been mistaken?

Since there was nothing worth exploring here, and no other paths to take, Angel prepared to turn back.

As for the treasure inside, apart from some master’s art pieces, he didn’t value any of it. And as for the art… at this juncture, when his very existence hung in the balance, he didn’t have the luxury of indulging in such distractions.

“Let’s go…” Angel patted Toby on the shoulder and began to move back. However, he paused after only one step, then his face lit up with joy, “The Leviathan’s gaze has left the gate. Our chance has come! Toby, we must leave quickly!”

With that, Angel sprinted outwards without hesitation.

Toby paused for a moment, ready to follow. But just then, it sensed a flash of gold light from behind. Turning its head, it found the source of the glimmering light was the skull by the bed.

Humans might feel a certain repulsion towards a dead person’s skull, but Toby didn’t have any such reservations. It found the flickering gold light quite pleasing to the eye, so it casually placed the glowing skull into the Snowy Feather, and then chased after Angel…
