Chapter 880 Awakening to Dreams

Chapter 879 Wilderness of Dreams <TOC> Chapter 881 Midnight Witch

Two days later, in the town of Borel, on the Continent of Revelation.

Freud listened to Angel’s account of that boundless Wilderness of Dreams with an air of astonishment.

However, Angel tactfully used the term “unique illusionary power” to describe the phenomenon of nightmares.

After hearing the whole story, Freud fell into deep thought. His expression changed constantly during the process of musing, and it took him quite a while to regain his composure. He finally said, “Every time you enter the Dream Realm of a non-living entity through the Dream Conch, you see the same wilderness. And since the Dream Conch is triggered by your unique illusionary power…”

“This wilderness could very well be, as you speculated, a special Dream Realm formed from the fusion of illusions and dreams.”

When Freud reached this point, his eyes seemed to be gleaming, and he murmured to himself, “It seems that the direction of my research is correct. I just don’t understand the unique illusionary power you possess, which makes my research seem empty and baseless. What exactly is this unique illusionary power and why is it connected to the Dream Realm?”

Faced with Freud’s question, Angel could only answer helplessly, “As I’ve said before, the method of cultivating this special illusionary power comes from my mentor. I can’t possibly divulge it unless you take the Oath of Luo.”

“Oath of Luo…” Freud was somewhat hesitant. His curiosity about this special illusionary power was intense, but precisely because he didn’t understand it, he didn’t dare to rashly conclude about its effects. If the effects were not as expected, wouldn’t he have lost out by taking the Oath of Luo?

And the Oath of Luo pertained to all his future endeavors.

In the end, Freud still couldn’t make up his mind. He sighed and said, “Let me think about it a bit more.”

Angel didn’t dwell on the topic of the Oath of Luo, instead he asked Freud, “Since you believe that the Dream Realm of the wilderness is likely related to the direction of your research, what do you think should be my next step?”

“Research it and gather more data. Most importantly, identify what sets it apart from regular dreams,” Freud responded without hesitation.

“And you’re so certain that it will be different from regular dreams?”

“The unique Wilderness of Dreams, triggered by a special illusionary power through the Dream Conch, must have its unique features. Find them, understand them, utilize them, and ultimately, control them!”

After his conversation with Freud, Angel decided to stay in Borel for the time being.

Before leaving the Old Land Continent, he had already bid farewell to Leon and had told Jon that he would not be able to return for some time. After all, he was going to research dreams and he hardly knew anything about the Dream Realm. It was necessary

Each time, Angel would forcefully pull the activated Gondola into the dreamscape, entering the dream-world to explore the vessel. As for the Gondola, it is now operated by Freud. Despite being a spirit, his soul brims with potent energy. Since long ago, he has been able to affect the physical realm. For him, operating a simple flying vessel is child’s play.

After crashing at least twenty Gondolas in the Wilderness of Dreams, spending close to thirty hours, and journeying tens of thousands of miles, Angel finally witnesses an unusual scenery during one of his ventures into the dream field.

To be precise, the scenery was familiar—an endless expanse of wilderness.

Yet, atop this boundless plain, an exquisitely crafted table stood.

Upon exiting the dream state, Angel materialized the table through an illusion. Freud scrutinized it carefully for a while before quietly saying, “This table… it seems to be the same one from Eniya’s room.”

Angel was baffled for a moment, only then remembering that his first use of the Dream Conch was in Silver Heron Palace, in Eniya’s room. At that time, he used Eniya’s table as a test subject in his initial experiment with the Dream Conch.

According to Freud, once a non-living object enters the dream, it remains there unless intentionally destroyed.

Angel was somewhat disappointed. He thought he had discovered something unique, only to find it was Eniya’s table.

However, Freud was quite excited. While they had assumed that all non-living entities that entered the dream appeared in the Wilderness of Dreams, it was just a hypothesis, hard to substantiate.

Now, they had evidence. Freud was now almost certain that when Angel activated the Dream Conch using special illusionary powers, the objects would all enter the Wilderness of Dreams—specifically, the same part of it!

This brought him one step closer to his hypothesis!

The Dream Realm itself was too vast. The objects pulled into it by the Dream Conch in this boundless world, where even a seasoned wizard would find it impossible to traverse in a lifetime, were more elusive than a grain of sand in the sea.

But if all the objects pulled into the dream by the Dream Conch appear in the same wilderness, their discovery becomes somewhat simpler!

After receiving this information, amidst his joy, Freud couldn’t help but question: what primarily gives birth to the Wilderness of Dreams—is it the Dream Conch, or the special illusionary powers?

Freud shared his thoughts, and Angel found himself unable to decide upon hearing them.

Freud pondered, “I lean more towards the special illusionary powers being the primary cause. Why don’t we conduct an experiment: can we send a living person into the Wilderness of Dreams using only special illusionary powers, without the Dream Conch?”

Upon hearing this, Angel hesitated, “I don’t think it’s possible. I’ve observed others dreaming, and none have ever entered the Wilderness of Dreams.”

“Lord Pat, haven’t you forgotten that those you’ve entered into dreams are, in actuality, self-dreaming? If you were to forcibly pull them into a dream through a spell, wouldn’t that lead you into the Wilderness of Dreams?” Freud paused, “The four fundamental spells that every dream-series apprentice must master are: Dream Initiation, Dream Entry, Dream Reading, and Dream Control. Among these, Dream Initiation is a spell for dragging others into dreams.”

“Dream Initiation, is it a type of hypnotic spell?” Angel pondered. If it were just a hypnotic spell, he could use his Nightmare Illusion to achieve this.

“Dream Initiation does possess characteristics of hypnosis, but its primary function is to pull others into dreams. Moreover, those who are dragged into dreams usually experience lucid dreams.” Freud explained, “Lord, all the dream-series spells use a unique Illusionary Power as their energy source. If Dream Initiation can drag people into the Wilderness of Dreams, that would imply… the emergence of the Wilderness of Dreams might primarily be due to this special Illusionary Power.”

Angel accepted Freud’s advice. However, Dream Initiation still remained a second-level spell. For Angel to learn it, it would take him about half a month.

Angel found this duration to be quite long, but Freud wore a bitter expression as if he had swallowed a bug, “Why is it that the favored ones are always so audacious?”

When Freud initially learned Dream Initiation, it was a saga of blood, sweat, and tears. Now, someone else was complaining about it taking too long to learn the same spell in just half a month?!

Of course, Freud didn’t understand Angel’s perspective. Angel was well aware that his shortcut method of learning was unconventional. Normally, learning this kind of cross-series spell would take him several years. The reason he felt it was a long time was purely because Jon’s health was deteriorating day by day, making the passage of time feel increasingly urgent to him.

Angel handed over the analysis of Dream Control to the holographic tablet for calculation, while he continued his search for more data within the Wilderness of Dreams.

As time passed, a week went by.

Freud had initially planned to stay next to Angel’s room in Tyson Lane for these days. However, early in the morning, he found a stranger in Tyson Lane and bid Angel farewell, returning to the orphanage.

Without Freud’s cooperation, Angel didn’t continue to allow the Gondola to enter the Wilderness of Dreams. Instead, he sat in his room, attempting to manipulate the Dream Conch to pull his small building into the dream.

In the past, he used the Dream Conch to pull small objects into dreams. This was his first attempt at pulling such a large structure.

Barely settling into the dream state and still adjusting his perspective, Angel perceived an anomaly within the dream. Through his expansive vision, he looked outward, yet his surroundings remained an endless wilderness, unchanged. The only hint of abnormality was a familiar scent carried by the wind.

Regrettably, his current form was a tendril of the dream, distorting his perception of this scent. However, as he immersed himself in this atmosphere for a while longer, a realization hit him – it was identical to the aura of the Nightmare Plane, albeit a tad diluted.

It rather resembled… the Nightmare Domain.

Angel clearly remembered Sanders once mentioned that the Nightmare Domain was the intermediate zone between the Nightmare Plane and the real world. But wasn’t he currently in the Dream Realm?

Could it be possible that this Nightmare Domain was the in-between of the Nightmare Plane and the Dream Realm?

Angel shuddered slightly at his own hypothesis. The last time he encountered the Nightmare Domain, he almost unintentionally became the culprit for world destruction. Through the barrier of the Nightmare Domain, he saw the stitch faced woman seated on the profound celestial throne.

The woman, whose mere laughter could rival the intimidation of legends.

If the Wilderness of Dreams also belonged to the Nightmare Domain, did it mean it was just a thin layer away from the Nightmare Plane? Angel shivered momentarily, wavering on whether he should continue his exploration.

Angel shook his head, discarding the unprovoked thoughts. He took a deep breath, murmuring to himself:

“In the absence of other alternatives, this is the only visible route to hope. Besides, this might not even be the Nightmare Domain. Even if it is, I can simply… sever it!”

Angel decided to temporarily suppress the “this place may be a suspected Nightmare Domain” thought deep in his heart. He would investigate everything after mastering the art of Dream Initiation.

With a heavy heart, Angel departed from the Wilderness of Dreams.

Due to its connection to the Nightmare Domain, he couldn’t share this matter with Freud just yet. If only he could contact Sanders – at least Sanders could provide him with advice.

But he was now on the distant Revelation Continent. Surely he couldn’t possibly make a special trip back to the Feran Continent just to check if Sanders had returned?

Angel recalled the White Shell Shipping branch back on the Feran Continent, which housed a communication device capable of long-distance contact with Sky Mechanical City. Could the Revelation Continent also possess similar machinery?

Angel decided to ask Freud.
