At that moment, Angel was gazing apprehensively at the heavens above.

Upon the emergence of the Source Fire, the sky had morphed into a sieve with gaping holes, ceaselessly raining down columns of fire, reducing a significant portion of La Sutherland’s edifices to ashes within these flaming pillars.

But that was not the limit to the chaos. As the nodes where the fire patterns converged increased, the sky was thoroughly set ablaze.

Initially, one could perceive the curtain of the night, with the fire patterns merely playing supporting roles on its canvas. Yet, in an abrupt turn of events, the roles had switched. The scene looked exactly the same as the painting within the Hunting Museum by Feng  — a world where flames shroud all else, casting an eternal eclipse over the night.

In this moment, numerous hidden truths finally surfaced.

“It really is the Source Fire, it’s really here!” A demon, suspended mid-air, suddenly cried out.

“Not just the Source Fire, such an anomaly signifies the advent of a new lord! Who could it be? Could it be Komodo? As far as I know, he’s the only Great Fire Demon in La Sutherland right now!”

News of the Source Fire spread like wildfire across the whole of La Sutherland. All demons were sent into a frenzy, especially the Fire Demons!

Angel was unsure of the significance of the Source Fire to these Fire Demons. Yet, what he observed was that nearly all the Fire Demons soared towards the sky, unwilling to descend even amidst the cascading Source Fire.

“For Fire Demons, even acquiring a hint of the Source Fire’s essence would bring them immense benefits,” Fafnir’s voice came through.

“What exactly is the Source Fire?”

This marked the second time Angel had inquired about the Source Fire. On the first occasion, Fafnir remained mute, but this time she finally broke her silence, albeit slightly, “The Source Fire, it’s the Flame of Origin. I’m not well-versed in fire-affinity related matters, so I don’t fully comprehend its situation. However, I know that it has always been present, it attaches itself to the cradle of civilization, burning fiercely in an indescribable dimension. To make it descend onto the mortal plane is exceedingly challenging. It requires a primer, cultivation, and only then can it be conceived.”

The Flame of Origin, born from civilization, was this in reference to the sparks of civilization? Angel pondered. Was this the same meaning as the Source Fire that the Source Worshippers spoke of?

Fafnir paused for a moment, speaking with a tone of nostalgia, “Each descent of the Source Fire signifies the birth of a new Lord of Fire.”

Angel was taken aback, “The Lord of Fire, do you mean Lord Night?”

Fafnir nodded, a glint of admiration in her eyes, “It should be him. To my knowledge, the only existing Lord of Fire in the Wasteland Plane is the ancestor of the Fire Demons. The ascent of Night will completely alter this situation.”

The ancestor of the Fire Demons? Angel thought of Greaves, that fireball, which would become a Fire Demon once matured.

“And what about the Flameless Lord? Is he considered a Lord of Fire?” Angel instinctively asked.

Upon hearing the question, Fafnir stared at Angel with a look as if observing a simpleton. After a moment, she replied disdainfully, “The realm of Demon Gods is a level beyond.”

Someone like the Flameless Lord could quite aptly be deemed a God of Fire.

Of course, it couldn’t be outright claimed that the Lords of Fire were weaker than the Gods of Fire; it entirely depended on an individual’s strength. Even amongst Demon Lords, there were some with power comparable to Demon Gods.

After hearing Fafnir’s tale, Angel’s astonishment was beyond expression.

He was aware of the formidable strength of Lord Night and that he would ascend to Lord once he shattered his shackles. However, he never anticipated that he would mount the throne of the Lord of Fire in such a supremely majestic manner!

Moreover, Angel himself didn’t just propel these events, but was also fortunate enough to witness the Lord and his crowning!

After the initial shock, Angel’s emotions were rather mixed.

On one hand, he felt privileged to witness these events, but on the other, he felt a mounting pressure from the greater and continuously emerging new forces in the Abyss Plane.

Setting aside the imminent Lord Night, just Fafnir by his side, Odeklaes of Ice Valley, Balalaika of the Resting Ground and so on… were all formidable entities similar to the chosen ones.

And the Wasteland Plane was just the weakest Aspect, the most inferior of all Phase Planes in the Abyss. It was hard to imagine how thriving the other Phase Planes were.

As Angel was lost in his thoughts, Fafnir, watching the dense sky filled with Fire Demons, suddenly smirked and said, “Dawn is drawing near. It seems that the peace is about to end.”

Initially, Angel didn’t understand the meaning behind Fafnir’s words, until the Fire Demons in the sky suddenly transitioned from not interfering with each other to a chaotic melee. Only then did he comprehend the implication of “the peace is about to end”.

“The ownership of the Source Fire was already determined from the very beginning. Thus, the amount of the Source Fire’s aura that was leaked wasn’t much, and there are so many Fire Demons. What would happen in the end, was, in fact, predestined.”

What Fafnir didn’t say was that even if the ordinary demons in the sky didn’t make a move, Komodo from the Void Obelisk would undoubtedly take action.

This is the quintessential law of the jungle at play  — weaken and even eliminate more competitors, only then can one gain more to grow stronger.

Once the battle in the sky is initiated, it was like lighting the fuse of a powder keg  — uncontrollable once sparked.

Moreover, any demon audacious enough to contend for a spot in the sky is undoubtedly formidable in power.

Angel stands atop a rooftop, gazing at this awe-inspiring melee. Every demon in the sky outclasses Angel, and the more he watches, the more a cold sweat breaks out all over his body.

The energy of the entire La Sutherland begins to spiral into chaos. This inferno extends not only to the fire demons but also to other demons. Some, to avoid damage to themselves, are reluctantly drawn into the fray.

At present, the only places that haven’t been swept up into the whirlwind of battle are the outermost domains and the Void Obelisk in the core area.

There are demons that meet the challenge, and there are demons that fall. The number of dead demons is far from negligible.

Even though Angel watches the sky with a sense of trepidation, as bodies of demons descend haphazardly onto the city, he can’t help but feel a pang of regret.

Although the value of a demon’s corpse doesn’t match that of a monster, possessing it would still amount to a tidy sum.

However, when a burning corpse of a demon fell from the sky and slammed into the woods outside the Phantasmagoria Cabin, Angel finally curbed his covetousness.

Because as soon as the demon’s body hit the ground, it turned into a massive fireball, reducing everything within hundreds of meters to ash.

The Phantasmagoria Cabin itself was also within this range. If not for Fafnir’s creation of a wind barrier, it would likely have been obliterated in an instant.

Even though the Phantasmagoria Cabin was spared, the surrounding environment underwent a drastic transformation. The once tranquil woodland was no more. Everything was wholly turned into a sea of flames, a molten furnace.

Angel found himself on the rooftop, even shielded by a barrier of wind, he could still feel the scorching gusts relentlessly brushing against his face.

This was merely the impact from a lifeless body, and Angel didn’t dare to imagine what would happen if it continued. Likely, even before the Source Fire was born, La Sutherland would turn into an inferno.

The situation had escalated to such an extent that it was probably beyond the expectations of the Great Demons in the Void Obelisk.

At this moment, there was an uproar inside the Void Obelisk.

“It’s time to put a stop to this, or else La Sutherland, which has stood in the void for tens of thousands of years, might be reduced to ashes.” The speaker was a grandly dressed female demon, radiating an aquatic glow.

This female demon, called Nythotep, was a water-affinity demon, and her size was the largest among the current seven Great Demons of the Void Obelisk. This was because beneath her grand skirt lay countless terrifying and ferocious barbed tentacles.

Nythotep’s upper body was no different from that of an average human being, delicate and soft. Yet, the tentacles beneath her skirt were enormous. Each one was like a kraken’s tentacle, making the originally spacious council hall in the Void Obelisk feel cramped and narrow.

“Nythotep, you’re speaking from your own perspective. La Sutherland will never disappear, it will be reborn through the flames. After being scorched by this fire, it will rise from the ashes.” The speaker was a Fire Demon with a skull resembling a newt. Despite its small size, it was the only Fire Demon among the seven  — Komodo.

Nythotep sneered, “Komodo, everyone knows what you’re thinking. The more demons that die outside, the greater your ultimate gain… But don’t forget, what kind of disaster would the death of so many demons bring to La Sutherland? If there are external enemies, the damage suffered by La Sutherland will never be restored.”

The so-called external enemies naturally refer to human wizards. Originally, they did not believe that human wizards would dare to invade La Sutherland. However, with Olucia appearing at this time, it’s uncertain whether human wizards might risk everything for such a prize.

“The Lord of Fire is about to descend, even if there are external enemies, do you think they can withstand a single glance from the Lord of Fire?” As Komodo spoke, a devout light flickered in his elongated eyes.

“And what makes you think that the Curator of the Hunting Museum would be willing to deal with external enemies?” Nythotep jeered, “He is neither one of our seven seats nor does he have any allegiance to La Sutherland. Why would he interfere in our affairs?”

“The Lord of Fire will burn everything to ashes,” Komodo immediately retorted.

For a moment, the inner hall was filled with the sounds of Nythotep and Komodo arguing.

The other five seats, excluding them, did not utter a word and simply watched this contest between fire and water with an amused look on their faces.

Nythotep snorted, “Well, let me ask you two questions, you should know very well, the reason why Olucia came to La Sutherland was also for this Source Fire. What makes you think that you can snatch the leaked Source Fire from her hands? And, if La Sutherland were completely engulfed in flames, even if it truly is reborn through the ashes as you suggest, do you think that demons of other elemental affinities would still be willing to reside here?”

To these two questions, Komodo did not think they were problems. After all, as long as he did not lay hands on Olucia, a simple contest of strength to snatch the Source Fire didn’t necessarily mean he would lose.

Moreover, if there were no demons of other elemental affinities in La Sutherland, Komodo felt it might not be a bad thing.

Nevertheless, no matter what Komodo thought, Nythotep’s words did provoke reactions from the other five Great Demons. If La Sutherland were to be truly engulfed in flames, the only one who would benefit would be Komodo. They would likely be forced to leave.
