Mengke never anticipated he would encounter Angel in this manner.

From the puppet he had dispatched — somewhat distant from the battlefield’s heart — specific details remained elusive. However, the figure of a short-haired woman, her skin of a dusky hue, with a man and woman trailing behind her, was strikingly clear.

By her exterior attributes, it was apparent the woman was a half-demon. The man, on the other hand, exuded an aristocratic elegance, clad in traditional finery.

In his stupor, Mengke was even led to think that he saw Sanders.

One had to admit, both Sanders and Angel projected the persona of traditional aristocrats based on their attire. However, upon closer inspection, their different auras became discernible.

As the battle commenced, Mengke’s gaze was magnetically drawn towards the short-haired woman.

Her terrifying mastery over wind, her swift and ruthless technique of slaughter, her power surpassing Mengke’s wildest imagination — without a doubt, this woman was the mighty ally of Angel!

In a relatively short duration, hundreds of demons were obliterated by her seemingly casual techniques.

As the bloody rain descended in flurries, the battlefield turned into a wasteland littered only with flesh and remnants.

This was a born killing machine. All the wizards who bore witness to this scene fell silent. Surrounding the floating iceberg, countless demons lingered. Their strength was not too far from the demons she had just annihilated, yet they had been stalling for a significant amount of time, making no substantial progress. Meanwhile, this woman had ground all the demons into bloody pulp in the blink of an eye.

Moreover, her technique of exterminating demons seemed effortless, as though she expended not an iota of energy.

One could only imagine that if this woman were to attack the floating iceberg, it would disintegrate within moments.

Upon this thought, they felt a profound sense of relief for their previous decisions, grateful they did not choose to antagonize this woman, or their fate would have been as precarious as the lesser demons watching in the sidelines.

Fafnir’s dance of carnage rendered the wizards silent, especially after all the demons were slain. Her casual glance towards the puppet sent a shiver down the spines of the already terrified wizards, rendering them mute.

“She must have noticed us, right?” came a voice trembling with fear.

“She definitely has,” the reply was firm.

“But it seems she’s not paying any attention to the puppet.” Swallowing hard, the speaker continued, “Surely, she wouldn’t bear any animosity towards us? After all, it seems like Angel and her are well acquainted.”

After her slaughter, Fafnir merely nodded at Angel and continued on her way.

The wizards took note of this interaction.

“What kind of relationship does Angel have with this woman?” Even though Angel had shared plenty of important information before, no one dared to inquire about this powerful individual.

“Did you take note?” A voice sliced through the silence. “In the previous skirmish, Angel stood unfazed at the center of the battlefield. He truly lived up to being a disciple of Sanders.” If it were any other apprentice, their knees would’ve likely buckled and given way, especially considering even that half-demon was seen secretly slinking away.

A chorus of envious, resentful gazes swung towards Sanders, who remained stoic and silent.

Ever since Angel had tumbled from Shadow Demon Castle into Fairytale World, his journey had been anything but predictable. Even Sanders found it challenging to foresee Angel’s path at times.

However, looking at Angel, his face still carrying the valor of youth, Sanders felt a deep sense of gratification. If only Angel would refrain from causing trouble, everything else about him as his disciple would be perfect.

“Sanders, what’s your take on this?” Mengke’s gaze also shifted towards Sanders at this point.

Sanders paused for a moment before speaking, “Two questions plague me. First, why would these demons target Angel? Second, why did Angel leave the southern outskirts?” Although curious about the dark-skinned woman’s identity, knowing these details would only satisfy personal curiosity and would do little to help the current situation. What he truly couldn’t grasp were these two points.

“Why the demons have set their sights on Angel? That depends on what Angel possesses that might be of interest to them,” Mengke responded. “In essence… it must be awakening. Although it’s unclear how Angel accomplished it, it seems that the demons are fearlessly desperate to capture Angel, likely for this very reason.”

“As for why they left the southern outskirts,” Mengke was speaking as he was pondering, “Their destination suggests they’re heading for the Void Obelisk. The present Void Obelisk… is indeed somewhat peculiar. Lucci and I have both sensed it; in the not-so-distant future, the Void Obelisk will bring a terrifying disaster to La Sutherland.”

“So, Lord Mengke, you mean because the changes in the Void Obelisk have left  even the Great Demons no choice but to leave?” Revitta, best at catching details, quickly responded.

“Perhaps, but I cannot confirm. Puppets cannot probe into the Void Obelisk, the specific situation is unknown, but based on the current situation, it seems that La Sutherland might indeed face a momentous crisis,” Mengke sighed.

“Why not send a puppet to contact Angel?” someone suggested. No matter how much they speculated, asking the prime culprit involved seemed most appropriate.

Mengke had also considered this, but puppets, after all, are tools of alchemical reconnaissance. Their presence within the cautionary radius of any powerful entity might cause displeasure or even hostility. And since Angel was following that dark-skinned woman, the puppet’s approach would inevitably provoke a reaction. If it led to antagonizing an overwhelmingly powerful individual, the risk would far outweigh the benefits.

For a while, the debate focused entirely on whether or not to use a puppet to interact with Angel.

However, Sanders, standing on the sidelines, was primarily concerned with the actions of the demons. Their brazen pursuit of Angel was definitely suspicious, and what concerned Sanders even more was, to what extent would the dark-skinned woman support Angel?

Sanders didn’t believe that the dark-skinned woman would aid Angel without any ulterior motives. She must have a demand, or perhaps something was being exchanged.

If one were to speak of a transaction occurring between any run-of-the-mill wizard apprentice and an individual of profound power, Sanders would likely regard it as a joke. However, Angel was an exception, carrying within him are so many secrets that revealing any would send shockwaves through the Wizarding World. Therefore, if it came down to dealing with an individual of such immense power, it wouldn’t be entirely implausible for Angel to hold his own.

During Sanders’ contemplation, Angel found himself newly encircled by a formation of demons.

Though plentiful, the demons proved no match for Fafnir. As the onlookers marveled at this disparity in strength, a Goat Demon appeared out of nowhere behind Angel.

“A speed-type Goat Demon?!” A wizard exclaimed in surprise. Even ‘Black Dragon’ Essex furrowed his brows. This type of Goat Demon was one that even he would generally avoid in battle. If Angel were to be caught by it, the chances of escape would be slim… Such were Essex’s thoughts when the Goat Demon reached out and grabbed Angel by the shoulder.

It seemed as though Angel was in for a difficult time. This was the consensus that formed in the minds of the observing wizards when they witnessed this scene.

However, events didn’t unfold as they had anticipated. Angel’s soul escaped its confines and he freed himself using Gravity Lines. The turn of events, brought about by his succession of actions, left the wizards in a state of bewildered awe.

Were they in his place, even if they could free themselves, it likely wouldn’t have been as swift and decisive. To their surprise, Angel had managed to pull it off!

Even Mengke couldn’t help the surprise and admiration that filled his eyes. Despite Angel possessing Gravity Lines, making such a quick response under immense psychological pressure was by no means an easy feat.

Angel’s escape was a cause for astonishment among the crowd. The subsequent series of events that unfolded left the wizards feeling even more astounded.

Komodo, who had been absent until now, finally made its appearance.

And it seemed as though Komodo was the puppet master pulling the strings behind Angel’s predicament!

“Bring more puppets closer!” Seeing the dramatic transformation of Komodo, Mengke felt a sense of foreboding. He had the feeling that they could obtain the answers they sought from Komodo’s actions.

However, the dialogue between Komodo and Fafnir was inaudible due to the distance. Upon giving this command, Mengke hoped that even if they couldn’t hear the conversation, they could at least interpret it through lip-reading.

Unexpectedly, the puppets’ approach didn’t trigger a significant reaction.

Or, one could say that there were many demons secretly observing the battle nearby, and the addition of a single puppet was insignificant to both Fafnir and Komodo.

As the puppet drew closer, they heard a chilling feminine voice: “He carries a mission from Odeklaes, I cannot possibly let you take him away.”

On the other side, Komodo smirked: “Nothing is absolute. How about we make a deal?”

Upon Komodo’s words, Fafnir didn’t respond immediately, and silence fell over the area.

Meanwhile, atop the floating iceberg, the wizards fell into discussion.

“Who is Odeklaes? Angel is tasked with a mission from Odeklaes, could this be the hidden bond between Angel and this supreme being?” Rivetta exclaimed, swiftly jotting down in her book. The news of today alone was more substantial than what she had garnered in the past year, and much of it held tremendous value. Once organized and sifted through, she estimated that —City Firefly’s Night Whisper— would have another huge scoop!

“Odeklaes is the Abyss Dragon of the Eternally Frozen Ice Valley,” Mengke revealed. In his endeavor to establish a stronghold for Frost Moon on the surface, he had ventured to the Ice Valley in search of this Abyss Dragon, thus learning of its true name.

Previously, Angel had mentioned a mission from a ‘senior’ through the communicator. It was surprising to realize that this senior was indeed Odeklaes. Moreover, according to the information available, this formidable entity seemed to be linked to Odeklaes as well.

The more Mengke delved into it, the more mysterious Angel appeared to him.

Don’t let appearances deceive you. Odeklaes might be an Abyssal Flame Dragon, but its prolonged residence in the Ice Valley had turned it into a being capable of controlling ice. Mengke’s previous visit hadn’t been particularly pleasant. It was astonishing to discover that Angel was somehow connected to it.

“Putting that aside, I’m quite curious about Komodo’s transformation. Its physical power has escalated tremendously with its current change. Isn’t this shift happening too swiftly…?”

“And why did Komodo capture Angel?”

As the crowd engaged in fervent debates, Fafnir, who had remained silent till now, finally broke her silence:

“What sort of deal do you wish to strike?”
