“I see you’ve ventured to the Void Obelisk, you must be aware that the master node of the runes has been shattered,” Komodo regarded Fafnir.

Fafnir remained indifferent, replying, “And so?”

“Shortly, La Sutherland will shatter in the void. When that happens, if the flame pattern blockade isn’t lifted, every living being in La Sutherland will find themselves on a countdown to oblivion. Surely you understand this,” Komodo relayed this grave news with an unnerving calm.

Its words struck like a thunderbolt, dazing everyone present.

The end of days for La Sutherland? All life extinguished? The assembled wizards, standing on the floating iceberg, were consumed by disbelief. This revelation was too monumental; none had foreseen the course of events to take such a dire turn.

Only a moment ago, Angel had warned them of demons in the Void Obelisk, plotting their annihilation with void rifts.

And in the next, they heard from the Great Demon that the master node rune of the Void Obelisk had been sabotaged, and La Sutherland was on a ticking clock headed towards destruction.

The chasm between the two predicaments was vast; the plot had twisted far beyond anyone’s expectations!

The wizards reflexively looked towards Lucci, yearning for confirmation from his lips.

“Pendulum Clock” Lucci, being a prophecy wizard, had immediately delved into the Wheel of Time for insight following Komodo’s shocking revelation. Given the abundance of known variables, discerning the truthfulness of this news was easier than a blind man that avoids crossing a river.

After some contemplation, Lucci seemed to make a discovery.

His hands danced like shadows, swiftly manipulating the twelve hourglasses he wore. As the hands of the hourglasses turned, a series of illusions appeared behind Lucci, flickering to life.

In the heart of these illusions, an eye snapped open.

An eye that seemed capable of piercing through the void and into the future, primitive yet wise. It opened slowly, and closed just as languidly.

The observing wizards felt as though they were witnessing the true flow of time in the blink of that spectral eye.

In that fleeting moment, it was as though they beheld lifetimes.

When the illusionary eye shut once again, Lucci opened his eyes and declared the verdict with deliberate pronunciation, “The end is nigh, darkness descends, and La Sutherland will be consumed by chaos. Komodo speaks the truth.”

Even though they were somewhat prepared, the wizards were still startled by Lucci’s definitive confirmation.

At this point, Mengke added, “I can feel it too, the edges of La Sutherland have started to collapse. Soon, all of La Sutherland will plummet into the void.”

Mengke’s confirmation cast a pall over the wizards, as though a dark shadow was coalescing overhead.

Apart from the impending doom, everyone felt that the course of events was taking an unnervingly sinister turn.

They arrived in La Sutherland just in time for the advent of the throne, a coincidence that could be traced back to their previous conversation with Angel. It was understood that the reason Olucia journeyed to the surface plane was to seek Lord Night. Therefore, they didn’t give it much thought.

However, upon reaching La Sutherland, they coincidentally discovered the master node rune was compromised, and La Sutherland was on the brink of its demise. This was undoubtedly a targeted incident.

Someone must have taken advantage of the humans’ intrusion into La Sutherland, secretly infiltrated the Void Obelisk, and orchestrated this catastrophe!

In hindsight, they were unwittingly utilized in this scheme. The mere thought of this made the wizards’ teeth itch with frustration.

Furthermore, who was the one who destroyed the master node rune? What were their intentions? These lingering mysteries were tormenting everyone.

The thunderclap Komodo dropped not only shocked the humans, but even the observing demons lurking in the shadows unveiled their faces of terror.

However, what the demons cared about was not who demolished the master node or seeking answers to the problem. Instead, they were primarily concerned about their personal interests and safety.

If La Sutherland was on the verge of obliteration, why would they continue to fight the humans? Their own safety was obviously of paramount importance!

The question of how to escape the sealed La Sutherland was the most significant quandary in the demons’ minds.

Their collective gaze converged on Komodo, hoping it could reveal a viable solution.

Not long after Komodo had spoken, Fafnir nodded, “And What is the Deal then?”

“You came to the Void Obelisk, no doubt, for the formation at the top, right? It is an independent teleportation formation and won’t be affected by the damage to the master node rune. Even if it cannot teleport, harnessing the teleportation force to break the seal and fire patterns will save you a great deal of effort.” Komodo accurately discerned Fafnir’s intentions.

Fafnir continued to nod at Komodo. Although Komodo was correct, up to this point, Fafnir still didn’t understand what Komodo wanted in exchange.

Komodo suddenly burst into laughter, “Your thought process is correct, however, you don’t understand the intricacies of the Void Obelisk.”

Komodo continued, “I’m not sure how the previous intruder managed to infiltrate the Void Obelisk, but the one who definitely broke the underground seal was Iuppiter. Once Iuppiter broke the underground seal, it was far easier for the intruder to sabotage the master node rune. But this merely concerns the two lowest floors of the Void Obelisk. With sufficient strength, one could indeed have a chance of intrusion.”

“But the higher you go in the Void Obelisk, the more extensive the defense mechanisms become. By the top floor, if you don’t have the help of us, the seven seats… Oh, I misspoke. If you consider Iuppiter, whose fate is unknown, there are only four seats left. Without the aid of us four, your chances of making it in are virtually impossible.”

At this point, Komodo’s intention was clear as day.

“I can escort you to the top of the Void Obelisk. In exchange, hand him over to me, what do you say?” Komodo pointed at Angel.

Fafnir, her visage as stoic as ever, coolly asked, “The master rune node is broken, do you expect me to take your word for it?”

“Indeed, the vast defenses of the Void Obelisk are controlled by runes, but do not forget, the construction of the Obelisk was but an invitation for the Cruel Scholar, the true creator was the Gazing Abyssal Eye!”

While the Cruel Scholar orchestrated the rune system within the tower, ample regions within the Obelisk still bore the unmistakable trace of the Gazing Abyssal Eye. Given the laws left by the Gazing Abyssal Eye, it would prove difficult for Fafnir to reach the tower’s zenith without the proper authority.

Fafnir was submerged in silence. If Komodo’s claim held water, fleeing using the force of teleportation would indeed be no simple task.

Fafnir’s silence unsettled Angel, her steadfast ally, who stood behind her.

Discerning Fafnir’s silence, Komodo understood that she was weighing her options, “Isn’t the choice obvious? Surely, you wouldn’t want to enter into combat with me at such a time?”

Fafnir knew, while Komodo’s physical condition had become precarious, its strength had grown substantially. Engaging in a confrontation with Komodo now would not guarantee a swift victory. It would rather drain her own energy. Additionally, being in the Void Obelisk, Komodo could retreat at any given moment. Leveraging the teleportation formation at the tower’s top to escape would then leave her with no recourse.

If she could evade a battle, Fafnir would prefer peace.

Fafnir glanced at Angel, then at Komodo, plunging into deep contemplation.

Angel swallowed, uncertain of Fafnir’s thoughts. Even though they had a brief harmonious coexistence in these recent days, Angel had never anticipated that Fafnir would be ready to engage in battle with a force as formidable as Komodo, and that too, for his sake.

Time trickled away in the silence.

With each passing moment, Angel grew increasingly anxious… this sensation of being a pawn on a chopping block filled him with discomfort, a thought in his heart morphed swiftly within this brief time.

Meanwhile, upon the floating iceberg, Sanders sighed at this unfolding drama.

He never imagined that he would have to consider the limits of this formidable character — to what extent she would go for Angel, only to be promptly thrown into this choice.

Silently, Sanders slipped off his white gloves, storing them in his breast pocket.

Tipping his hat, the next moment, a short staff appeared in Sanders’ hand.

Originally, Sanders intended to respect Angel’s decision and seek him out in Ice Valley once this ordeal was resolved. However, it seemed that the plans can’t keep up with the shifting circumstances.

Sanders was preparing to plunge into the battle.

His actions were no secret to the others. Mengke discerned Sanders’ decision and chose not to intervene. Although Mengke had a certain degree of confidence in breaking the void’s seal without the need for teleportation, having control over a Great Demon would prove beneficial to them.

However, before Sanders could make his move, a new development emerged below——

Komodo had certainly deliberated extensively, even speculating that there was a high chance Fafnir would not choose to engage in battle. Yet, it hadn’t accounted for extrinsic factors. For instance, even without Fafnir, Angel had a firm foundation to lean on. Additionally, the situation with the Void Obelisk was far more severe than it had imagined.

As Komodo was in a standoff with Fafnir, an unexpected voice pierced through their impasse.

“Komodo, you are truly avaricious.” The icy timbre caused Komodo’s brow to furrow.

“Iadase?” Familiar with the accent, Komodo quickly spun around, indeed detecting the presence of Iadase within the Void Obelisk.

“Though I have no love for Eudecernos or Minotaur, I never imagined you would consume them whole, your appetite is truly gargantuan,” stated Iadase, “However, unregulated greed paired with blind confidence invariably leads to a lamentable outcome.”

Iadase had previously visited the Phantasmagoria Cabin and learned some truths from Hai. The Voyage of Experience, as its rules stipulated, was only effective for the water element affinity. Therefore, even if Komodo truly captured Angel, it would not eradicate its underlying threat.

Moreover, Komodo hadn’t contemplated that if the master node rune connections could be shattered, why couldn’t the teleportation function also be disrupted?

Iadase’s gaze was opaque. After all, this was another Great Demon preparing to vie for the power of the Gazing Abyssal Eye…

“Do you intend to oppose me?” Komodo’s voice turned frigid.

Iadase casually replied, “I merely wish to remind you of something: the teleportation formation at the apex of the Void Obelisk is also compromised.”
