Chapter 1261 Fading Away

The aftershock of the spectacle on site didn’t wane with the passage of time. On the contrary, it surged with a fervor growing more palpable.

At first, there were but hushed exchanges, but soon the discussions reached a crescendo, Tree Spirit Hall became more tumultuous than a bustling market square.

As everyone ardently shared their perspectives, Angel found himself momentarily sidelined.

During his time in La Sutherland, with the support of Fafnir, Angel might have played a significant role amidst the upheavals. However, with the fall of the Flameless Lord, given Angel’s capabilities, he couldn’t have possibly been embroiled in it.

Angel listened to the uproarious dialogues around him, his gaze narrowing. The tension he felt finally began to dissipate.

From their chatter, his significance was gradually Fading Away, precisely what he intended.

But the cacophony became overwhelming, even Tree Spirit seemed irritated. With just a mere thought, every wizard who turned their gaze here felt a jolt in their consciousness.

When they refocused on the Grand Tree Spirit Hall, they saw Wallace remark nonchalantly, “What’s there to debate? Frost Moon’s efforts bore no fruit, and it hardly pertains to our Savage Grottoes. As for the true demise of the Flameless Lord, clarity will emerge with time… Moreover, do you truly believe that you can capitalize on the fall of a Demon God’s True Spirit?”

Wallace’s words silenced the hall.

Indeed, their astonishment stemmed from the True Spirit’s fall. But on reflection, was this monumental event truly relevant to them?

After laying down his perspective, Wallace shifted his gaze to Angel, “Beyond the fall of the Demon God’s True Spirit, I’m more intrigued by your earlier claim. Did you genuinely secure the friendship of the Abyss Dragon from Ice Valley?”

Angel nodded in affirmation. Sanders had instructed him to divulge this detail.

He aimed to shift focus, making others, especially those from Frost Moon, believe that his escape from Popoca’s clutches required a powerful ally. And Odeklaes was the indisputable choice.

Wallace peered intently into Angel’s eyes, scrutinizing every word he spoke, every subtle shift of expression. Every nuance was under Wallace’s sharp observation.

He was confident that Angel was holding something back.

Yet, he was equally certain that whatever Angel had shared was the truth.

“You mentioned earlier that Odeklaes tasked you with synthesizing the Firestone. Is the reason for his camaraderie that you succeeded in synthesizing it?” Wallace inquired.

His question sparked a revelation amongst the wizards present. The real epiphany wasn’t about the demise of a True Spirit; it was about the potential gains. If Angel had indeed synthesized the Firestone, that would be the true boon!

It’s widely known that the Firestone is a legendary treasure. Many wizards who navigate the Abyss inevitably come across shards of the Firestone. While these fragments might seem trivial to some, they hint at the immense power of the full stone.

Numerous records from predecessors further testify to its value. It can be said that the Firestone is the coveted gem of all fire-affinity wizards. Even for those not specialized in fire, but having practiced fire spells, the Firestone can significantly boost their capabilities.

All eyes converged on Angel, awaiting his confirmation.

Angel nodded gently, “I did.”

His admission electrified the atmosphere. Just as the hall threatened to burst into a cacophony reminiscent of a bustling marketplace, Wallace’s voice cut through, restoring immediate silence.

“So, you’re implying that you can still synthesize it?” Wallace asked, focusing intently on Angel. He was acutely aware that the gathered wizards were equally eager for an answer. Even if the Firestone’s benefits weren’t as profound as imagined, as a scholar-wizard, Wallace yearned to study this fabled item.

“Yes,” Angel affirmed. Sensing the escalating excitement, he quickly added, “However, obtaining the primary materials for synthesizing the Firestone is challenging and irreplaceable. For instance, one essential component is the Ashen Flame Solvent, distilled from the Abyss Ghost Flames. If Lord Wallace can procure the necessary materials, I can synthesize it for you.”

In an instant, everyone was taken aback. For a vast majority of them, the intricacies of alchemy were foreign, leaving them clueless about the essence of Ashen Flame Solvent. However, the Abyss Ghost Flame was something they were all too familiar with.

Currently, the only creature known to possess the Abyss Ghost Flame was the Fire Demon!

This implied that to obtain the primary material of the Firestone, one would need a Fire Demon willingly assisting in the creation of the Ashen Flame Solvent.

The difficulty of such an endeavor was beyond imagination! Even a Young Fire Demon held power equivalent to or surpassing the level of true knowledge. Moreover, these demons were notoriously stubborn and fearless to the brink of death. The idea of convincing one to help in synthesizing the Ashen Flame Solvent was virtually unthinkable.

“How did you manage to acquire it?” Wallace had barely posed the question when he noticed Angel casting a bewildered glance his way.

Not just Angel, even Tree Spirit wore a furrowed brow, “Are you so immersed in your research that you’ve lost all common sense?”

It took a moment for the penny to drop for Wallace. The connection was clear: Odeklaes had sent Angel to Lord Night, likely the one who crafted the solvent for him.

Clearing his throat, Wallace continued, “What I mean to say is, since you’ve garnered the friendship of Odeklaes, could you possibly leverage that relationship to obtain this primary material once more?”

His suggestion was met with a series of perplexed stares.

Sanders scoffed coldly, “So, you’re suggesting that the recently ascended Lord of Fire, Lord Night, should aid Angel in creating another batch of Ashen Flame Solvent?”

By emphasizing “Lord of Fire,” Sanders effectively silenced Wallace.

If someone had the influence to persuade a Demon Lord to craft Ashen Flame Solvent, they wouldn’t need the Firestone in the first place.

Angel continued, “The Ashen Flame Solvent, brewed with Abyss Ghost Flame, is just one primary material. There are other irreplaceable components, all of which are challenging to procure. If Lord Wallace is genuinely keen on crafting it, I suggest seeking further details privately.”

Angel’s words were candid and unequivocal, leaving no room for ambiguity. Everyone understood he wasn’t being deceitful.

Reflecting upon it, one wonders why, until now, only the Fire Demons have been able to produce the Firestone. It’s evident that the Fire Demon plays an indispensable role in its creation. Given the rarity of the Firestone, it stands to reason, as Angel later suggests, that other primary materials are equally treasured — perhaps so rare that even the Fire Demons have difficulty acquiring them. This sheds light on the matter.

Upon hearing this revelation, the previously stirred emotions of the crowd began to settle.

They were acutely aware of their own capabilities. The “Ashen Flame Solvent, brewed with Abyss Ghost Flame” presented by Angel set the bar for alchemy, a standard which they clearly couldn’t meet.

To put it simply, to obtain the “Ashen Flame Solvent”, one would need to best a Fire Demon in battle, right? Yet, among those present, probably only Sanders and Tree Spirit believed they could defeat such a demon.

The assembly recognized the futility of pursuing the Firestone.

However, whether or not they can gather the materials, the mere fact that Angel can produce the Firestone has already caused quite a stir in the Southern Region.

Perhaps he’s the sole human to possess the formula for the Firestone.

In the realm of alchemy, this is undoubtedly headline news.

It also attests to Angel’s prowess in alchemy, to the extent that he’s even secured the friendship of an Abyss Dragon like Odeklaes through alchemy.

At this moment, Angel’s intrinsic value was fully manifested.

Initially, there might have been some who resented Angel’s inclusion into Rhine’s inner circle, but now, they were wholly convinced of his worth.

“Even though the Firestone can’t be synthesized, forging a bond with Odeklaes provides immense opportunities,” Tree Spirit mused with a gleeful smile.

In the grand tapestry of life, many have long contemplated the potential advantages of the situation, fully recognizing the profound value of forging an alliance with a powerful being from the Abyss.

Such a bond might even provide an unprecedented avenue to breach the barriers that the major wizard organizations have placed around the Abyss strongholds.

Yet, while these thoughts lingered in their minds, none dared to give voice to them. They understood all too well that to truly penetrate the wizard organization’s blockade of the Abyss, the depth of this “friendship” would have to be immense.

The intricacies and depth of the relationship between Angel and Odeklaes were unknown to them, and it was not their place to pry.

However, what was evident was that the prime beneficiaries of this entire ordeal would undoubtedly be the lineage of Phantom Island.

This realization was a thorn in the side for Wallace, who had always harbored a disdain for Sanders. It was clear as day that Angel, with his scholarly demeanor, belonged to the White Seagull Chronicle Academy, yet he was intercepted by Sanders along the way.

As Wallace pondered this, he looked at Angel with mournful eyes, remarking, “The doors of the White Seagull Chronicle Academy will always be open for you.”

This unexpected comment left Angel utterly baffled: “What’s this now?”

After the necessary reporting and explanations were made, the matter should have drawn to a close. Yet, a voice tinged with peculiar curiosity suddenly queried, “Where is the Source Fire?”

At the utterance of this question, a palpable tension seized everyone present. Even Wallace, who had been ready to chastise the one breaking decorum, paused.

During Angel’s recounting of the tales from La Sutherland, two significant aspects were unavoidable: What happened to Olucia and the Source Fire.

While the matter of Olucia was set aside for the moment, they hadn’t forgotten about the Source Fire. However, they were well aware that they had no right to inquire about the Source Fire’s whereabouts. Moreover, the Source Fire didn’t have a substantial connection to Angel’s narrative.

Yet, since the question was raised, they were keenly interested in hearing Angel’s response.

“The Source Fire,” Angel began with unwavering resolve, “is with me.”

The one speaking wasn’t Angel. Instead, it was Sanders, who had been standing silently in the background. Raising an eyebrow, he inquired, “So, Chilledin, you’re still fascinated by the Source Fire?”

After a brief pause, that peculiar voice responded, “Merely curious.”

“The Source Fire’s significance to the whole affair is minimal. Whether Angel chooses to discuss it is his prerogative. However, your sudden inquiry is indeed odd.” Sanders retorted with a wry smile, uncertain of Chilledin’s intentions but noting that the focus had once again shifted to Angel.

The worth of the Source Fire is in no way inferior to the Firestone; in fact, it might even surpass it.

Thankfully, Sanders was present. Otherwise, Angel might have become hesitant and evasive due to Chilledin’s probing, leading to rampant speculations amongst the others. The resulting ripple effects would undoubtedly be substantial.

One could argue that Chilledin’s question was either thoughtless or had an ulterior motive.
