Chapter 1547 Ivo and Alex

After Angel finished speaking about Frost’s “Ghost’s Box of Reincarnation,” he paused. He didn’t elaborate further on the events that transpired afterwards, deeming them irrelevant to the present conversation.

While Angel did add a fictitious Ghust Town to Frost’s experiences, everything else he shared was true. Fingernail Granny listened intently and, showing no signs of doubt, fell deep into contemplation.

Is the “Ghost’s Box of Reincarnation” the same as the “Box of Reincarnation”? Though Angel didn’t provide a definitive answer, the implication was abundantly clear: the odds were extremely high that they were one and the same.

Fingernail Granny also thought it likely, as only this would substantiate that Alex of Ghust Town was indeed Ivo.

She sifted through her memories of her past interactions with Ivo, simulating his behavioral patterns and thought processes. Then, she mapped these simulated thoughts onto Alex’s actions in Shadow of the Cage.

Fingernail Granny discovered that not just their names, hair color, and tones of speech, but even their thought processes when making decisions and their interpersonal traits, were nearly indistinguishable.

In other words, it was highly probable that Ivo and Alex were the same person.

This realization rekindled something in Fingernail Granny’s heart, which had been dormant for a millennium. A pebble named hope was cast into the placid lake of her heart, sending ripples across its serene surface.

Fingernail Granny had been searching for a thousand years.

Uninterruptedly.

Despite all the methods she had tried, she never received any news about Ivo. Even when she spent decades in the Crown Star Church and participated in hundreds of Star Observing Days, not once did she find a glimmer of hope.

Just when Fingernail Granny had nearly succumbed to despair, even considering entombing that particular memory deep within her memory box.

Angel appeared before her and inquired about the Scroll of Luck.

The Scroll of Luck rekindled Fingernail Granny’s long-buried memories and likewise sowed a seed for today’s tale.

A millennium later, when Fingernail Granny thought all hope was lost, it was Angel — the same individual who had unlocked her dormant memories — who brought her renewed hope.

Perhaps this was fate or destiny — the terms often fancied by prophecy wizards.

Fingernail Granny had never been a believer in destiny, but in that moment, she was willing to attribute this long-awaited hope to it.

“Thank you for sharing this with me,” Fingernail Granny’s voice was a bit parched, as this simple phrase encapsulated the highs and lows, the bitter and sweet, of her thousand-year-long wait.

Angel replied, “Granny, you’ve helped me a great deal. It’s my honor to be of assistance to you.”

Fingernail Granny shook her head with a smile, “Actually, meeting you is my honor. Otherwise, my millennium of waiting might have ended in nothing but emptiness.”

“As long as you never forget, it won’t be in vain,” Angel paused before asking, “Is there anything else you wish to know, Granny?”

Fingernail Granny nodded, “I want to know the end of the story Shadow of the Cage. What happened to Ivo… Alex, after he entered the Space of the Dead? Did he kill Sister Tessa?”

Angel replied, “I wish I knew the ending too. Unfortunately, the story as far as I know it, ends there. I have no idea about what follows.”

Fingernail Granny had somewhat expected this answer; after all, there was no reason for this theatrical story to intentionally lack closure. Whether in victory or defeat, the play would have had a fulfilling conclusion. Yet, it intentionally left things unresolved, which didn’t align with the extensive backstory that had been laid out.

Although tinged with some regret, she believed that if Alex were indeed Ivo, he would not stumble so easily over such a hurdle.

“I have one final question,” Fingernail Granny’s voice softened. “Could you tell me where the entrance to the Ghost’s Box of Reincarnation is?”

Angel sharply looked up at Fingernail Granny sitting across from him. Her eyebrows were lowered, making it difficult to read her eyes, yet beneath her placid expression, a subtle determination could be sensed.

“Do you intend to enter the cycle of reincarnation?”

Fingernail Granny: “Now that I have news of him, I’m indeed contemplating it.”

Angel furrowed his brows: “The dangers encountered in the Ghost’s Box of Reincarnation are random. Not every time is it like what happened in Ghust Town — a simple serial murder case accompanied by a fallen nun who can control ghosts. There’s a strong possibility you may face exceedingly difficult scenarios, like the Twilight Demon Palace that Lord Frost mentioned. That place harbors a special ghost that’s almost legendary!”

“And furthermore, Lord Frost later found himself in the most terrifying Ancient God’s Graveyard, where there were not just nearly legendary entities but even fallen godly ghosts!”

Frost, a professional Mysterious Hunter, nearly lost his life in the cycle of reincarnation and had to pay the price of losing his right hand to escape. If Fingernail Granny were to enter with her current abilities, let alone nearly legendary entities, even dealing with special ghosts of mere wizard level would be likely insurmountable.

Moreover——

“The Ghost’s Box of Reincarnation contains many different pockets of space-time. Even if you were to enter, it’s impossible to predict which mini-universe you’d end up in,” Angel explained. “Finding Alex would be like searching for a needle in a haystack.”

Fingernail Granny smiled, “Don’t worry. While the thought has crossed my mind, I won’t act recklessly. If I do decide to go, I’ll make sure to be thoroughly prepared.”

Angel let out a sigh, “Even though I feel that, despite being fully prepared, it would be extremely difficult to survive within the Ghost’s Box of Reincarnation, I believe Granny will have her own opinion. After all, if Lord Ivo knew that you had fallen while searching for him, he would be quite distressed too.”

“Moreover, the Box of Reincarnation isn’t entirely without a way out. Didn’t Lord Frost leave it originally? If Alex is indeed Lord Ivo, then he’s already been in there for a thousand years, and perhaps he’s not far from exiting.”

Fingernail Granny nodded with a smile, “I hope so.”

Seeing Fingernail Granny staring intently at him, Angel finally relented, “Lord Frost did not tell me the exact coordinates of the Ghost’s Box of Reincarnation. However, he mentioned that he received a message from the Orderly Guild when he was in the Guman Kingdom. They claimed that an ‘out of control object’ was found in a small world near Guman.”

Angel didn’t know where Guman was located. As for what small worlds were near it, he had no idea. Therefore, a lot of effort would be needed to determine the exact location of the Box of Reincarnation.

Fingernail Granny nodded, “Thank you, that’s enough. By the way, you don’t mind if I share this information with others, do you? I mean people from the Research Institute and prophecy wizards.”

After pondering for a moment, Angel nodded, “That’s fine, but try not to mention Lord Frost if possible.”

As Angel left Fingernail Alchemy House, he felt somewhat bewildered.

The workings of destiny are truly mysterious. When he intentionally sought something, he found no clues. Yet when he was simply teaching and used the Shadow of the Cage as a ‘time-killing’ tool, he found light at the end of the tunnel.

If his speculations today are correct, then not only did he confirm the displacement effects of the Gateway of Fantasy, but he may have also found Lord Ivo, who has been missing for a long time.

Whether he was nudged toward Alex by the invisible hand of destiny, or Alex, through his own tenacity, harnessed unknown forces to draw Angel to him, is hard to say.

The events of this day have truly taken Angel on an emotional roller coaster.

Is there still a chance to meet this amnesiac Alex?

What Angel meant by “meeting” was simply encountering through the Gateway of Fantasy. As for personally going to the Ghost’s Box of Reincarnation? He’s not itching to shorten his lifespan.

However, even meeting Alex through the Gateway of Fantasy would likely be quite difficult.

After all, even if he chooses to “jump off the train mid-journey” the next time he opens the Gateway of Fantasy, there’s no guarantee he will end up in Ghust Town.

Regardless, Angel seized the opportunity to check the Gateway Model on his Spell Position.

The special energy that had previously retracted completely has begun to expand outward once more after a period of sedimentation. It will only be ready for reactivation when it completely covers the Gateway Model again. According to Angel’s estimate, reaching that stage will likely take about half a year.
