Chapter 1592 Sinful Monster Laboratory

In the Wilderness of Dreams, a thousand kilometers away from Initial Heart City, lies a region shrouded in dark mist.

This dark mist zone is essentially a breeding ground for Sinful Monsters.

Nearby, there is a pure-white metallic structure with a spherical design. At a glance, it has no windows. The only markings on its walls are runes symbolizing absolute defense, designed to repel the encroachment of the dark mist.

On the upper level of this structure, there’s an airfield where several steam-powered mechanical airships are docked. Just like the building itself, these airships also lack windows.

Angel, having come to the Wilderness of Dreams from reality, just happened to see one of the mechanical airships flying away in the distance, headed toward Initial Heart City.

Upon approaching the spherical structure, its smooth, curved surface automatically unfolded to reveal a passage.

Entering the passage, the interior was incredibly bright and spacious, adorned with silver metal and transparent glass. After walking down the silent hallway for two minutes, Angel came to a stop in front of a room door.

The moment the door was pushed open, Freud’s voice could be heard.

“Information on Sinful Monster Number 7 has been largely recorded; good work everyone. However, our work for today is not yet complete. We still need to conduct a preliminary assessment of Number 7’s abilities. For now, we’ll transfer it to the simulated battleground for testing, and this task will be handled by Tulas, who is skilled in speed-based trials.”

“By the way, where is Tulas?”

After Freud’s words echoed in the room, there was no response for a while.

Finally, someone spoke up: “Lord Tyson, Sheriff Tulas mentioned earlier that he found the lab a bit dull and wanted to get some air. He left, and it seemed like he was headed for the upper level. We don’t have access to the upper level, so we have no idea where he is.”

“Upper floor? That Tulas guy, really…” After a muttered curse, Freud consoled, “Wait a moment, I’ll go find where he is.”

However, before Freud could leave, a voice said, “No need to look for Tulas. He’s already left the skyport and taken an airship back to Initial Heart City.”

The sound of the laboratory door closing caught Freud’s attention. Turning around, he saw Angel walking in from the entrance.

“Lord, you’re back!” Freud’s eyes brightened as he moved to greet him.

Angel nodded to him and then turned his eyes to the other people in the room.

Besides Freud, there were seven others here, all dressed uniformly in white lab coats. Some held measuring instruments, some operated experimental apparatuses, and others scribbled fervently with pens.

They were all researchers in the Sinful Monster Laboratory.

The Sin Lab, a spherical building where they currently resided, was specially built by Angel for the close-up study of the Sinful Monsters.

Originally, it was just him and Freud doing research here. But the tasks — logging information about Sinful Monsters, establishing relevant files, spell analysis, simulated combat, and so on… were too cumbersome. Unable to implement the knowledge directly in the real world, they had to manually complete these tasks, slowing down the data collection significantly. To speed up the process, Freud recruited a team of researchers from Initial Heart City to come here.

With their help, the pace of documentation accelerated several-fold.

Life here was actually quite monotonous, but for these researchers, who were accustomed to solitude, it was rather fitting. Moreover, their research aimed to protect the citizens of Initial Heart City. With this noble cause in mind, they were willing to stay.

Angel nodded at them, then turned to Freud, picking up where they left off: “Since Tulas has departed, I’ll take his place in the upcoming simulated battle experiment. Coleus, get me the data on Sinful Monster Number 7.”

Coleus, a young researcher wearing glasses, promptly handed over a stack of documents.

The last time Angel had left the Sinful Monster Lab, they were still researching Sinful Monster Number 5. Advancing to Number 7 in just two days was a remarkably quick pace.

Opening the folder, the first thing that caught Angel’s eye was a quick sketch of the Sinful Monster.

Angel had interacted with Coleus a few times during previous research and knew his style. While Coleus’s drawing skills were not extraordinary, his sketches captured the distinctive features of the Sinful Monsters quite well.

“It looks like an anemone with a chrysanthemum face?” Angel mumbled, “It actually looks kind of cute.”

As Angel’s words fell, a shiver ran through everyone present. Recalling what Sinful Monster Number 7 actually looked like, they couldn’t perceive it as cute.

“Have we settled on a name for Number 7 yet?” Angel asked while flipping through the documents.

Coleus: “It’s still just a number for now…”

Freud: “My Lord, although we haven’t decided on a name for Number 7 yet, I think it’s best not to be hasty.”

Angel gave Freud a skeptical look, “Are you suggesting that I’ve been hasty in naming before?”

Freud offered a restrained smile. Though he didn’t say it out loud, his meaning was clear. Angel’s naming skills were inconsistent, often imbued with a perplexing sense of self-assurance. Rather than gamble on the name Angel might spontaneously come up with, it would be more prudent to discuss and agree on a universally accepted name.

Angel scoffed softly, muttering, “No appreciation for the arts.”

After reviewing all the information on Sinful Monster Number 7, Angel set the documents aside: “Alright, I’m done. Time to head to the simulation arena and get acquainted with this Sinful Monster.”

In a glass chamber shrouded in a faint mist of darkness, Angel stared at the Sinful Monster designated as Number 7 across from him.

At first glance, it resembled a massive oval slab of flesh. Its body was covered with an array of tentacles abundant enough to make anyone with trypophobia scream. These tentacles seemed to sway in an invisible wind. The flesh slab had a large mouth that Angel had initially mistaken for a drawing of a chrysanthemum face — yet it was fundamentally different. The creature’s “face” bore no features, but when its maw opened wide, it revealed rows upon rows of sharp teeth, which rotated in a circular formation, becoming denser towards the center, similar to a blooming chrysanthemum.

“I take back what I said earlier; this is not cute at all,” Angel muttered. The mere sight of it could inflict emotional trauma, let alone its un-cuteness.

Angel couldn’t even begin to imagine what would happen if such a Sinful Monster were to integrate itself into a human body. What would that person look like once the monster’s powers were unleashed?

Despite its gruesome appearance, the Sinful Monster was powerful. Nonetheless, it couldn’t breach the protective rune. Angel casually strolled around it as if he were out for a walk.

After a moment, Angel emerged from the simulated battle arena.

“How did it go?” Angel looked at Freud standing outside.

“I’ve recorded the whole thing with a shadow stone,” Freud paused, “This Sinful Monster Number 7 didn’t move at all from start to finish. It relied solely on its tentacles for combat. It sort of seems like a defensive counter-attack approach, might be more suitable for Knight Sabel.”

“Suitable for Knight Sabel, you say? …I don’t know whether to say that’s unfortunate or congratulations are in order,” Angel remarked.

Freud chuckled, “Knight Sabel probably won’t mind the appearance. Besides, before unleashing its power, it still looks human.”

Pausing briefly, Freud continued, “Anyway, if it really is suitable for Knight Sabel, we’ll finally have the opportunity to document the transformation of a Sinful Monster when it’s unleashed within a human body.”

Currently, they had yet to have any demon hunters on their team.

When the first demon hunter does appear, the scope and depth of their research will expand significantly.

Furthermore, with the existence of demon hunters, simulations like these can be entirely entrusted to them, obviating the need for Angel to personally step into the arena, or for Tulas, who excels in speed, to take part.

“By the way, how is Labu’s evaluation going?” Angel suddenly inquired.

The emergence of demon hunters inherently requires inheritors of Sin Fog powers to subdue the demonic entities. Lab is currently the best candidate for this inheritance.

“As of now, Labu’s character and temperament have passed muster; it’s just a matter of his willpower. I plan to take him to the Sinful Monster laboratory to have a close encounter with these entities.”

Angel: “That sounds good, but remember, keep the truth about the world beyond the city walls confidential until authority is formally granted.”

Freud nodded: “I will handle it in the manner of this batch of researchers.”

The researchers in the current Sinful Monster laboratory all arrive by airship, which lacks windows. Despite being miles away from Initial Heart City, they are effectively kept in the dark about the reality outside, much like frogs at the bottom of a well.

After discussing matters related to the Sinful Monsters, Freud suddenly said, “By the way, I have here a set of design drafts for the new city. Would you like to take a look?”
