The light was dazzling, like a bomb detonating in the midst of a pitch-black night. In just a fleeting moment, the blinding radiance sketched out the silhouettes of a crowd hidden within the darkness.

Moreover, this beam of light started off as a mere speck but grew progressively larger as time went on. It was as if, initially, it emanated from the far depths of the void, but now it steadily approached, and ultimately, it passed through the vortex.

The intense white light dispelled the darkness. However, the sky did not revert to daylight. The glaring light was even more daunting compared to the preceding profound darkness. The darkness, perhaps, symbolized the despair preceding the apocalypse, while the current bright light resembled the cataclysmic instant of annihilation.

At that moment, the minds of everyone who witnessed this spectacle went blank. It felt as if, any second, they’d be obliterated entirely by that “apocalyptic radiance.”

However, after a brief wait, they felt nothing. Neither did the apocalypse arrive, nor did they sense any abnormalities in their bodies. Other than the blinding light, everything felt as usual, as if they had been utterly oblivious to the impending peril beforehand.

What was happening?

The apprentices and ordinary folk on the streets, after a moment of hesitation, looked up. They realized that the light, originating from the deep void, had truly descended but… it didn’t touch the ground. Instead, it simply streaked past right above their heads.

On a mountain peak a hundred miles away——

Angel didn’t pause. He opened three gateways consecutively, leading the group to a place untouched by the “darkness and light.”

Here, the sky remained a serene blue. Their scalps no longer tingled, nor did their brows twitch, indicating they had moved out of the range of the looming danger.

Gloria touched her still beating heart and took a long, relieved breath. She then turned her head to find that Angel’s face was quite pale. “Are you alright?” she asked.

Angel shook his head, “I’m fine, just a bit fatigued from opening the gateways in succession.”

After Angel was advanced to a formal wizard, opening gateways consecutively wasn’t too draining on its own. However, the stipulation was that only he would pass through. Each additional person he brought with him doubled the energy consumption. Now, he had brought four people with him and had been traveling continuously through the gateways, so it’s only natural that he felt somewhat drained.

Sanders reached out to touch Angel’s shoulder, and a gentle surge of energy immediately circulated through Angel’s body.

The discomfort Angel felt significantly diminished.

“The energy consumption was indeed substantial,” Sanders remarked. “But with a day or two of rest, I should be able to recover.” Angel nodded in agreement, feeling the same.

Once Gloria was certain that Angel was truly fine, she turned her attention to the previous forewarning of danger. “What exactly was that just now?” she wondered aloud.

No one could answer her, so Gloria redirected her gaze towards the distant horizon.

Though they were now quite far from Sky Mechanical City, they could still vaguely see its silhouette shrouded in darkness.

At that moment, a streak of light was soaring across the sky.

Gloria took notice and followed the light intently with her eyes, seemingly trying to analyze its nature.

However, they were too distant, and she didn’t dare to project her mental power into the darkened area, leaving her without any leads.

“The path of that light doesn’t seem like it’s heading for Sky Mechanical City,” she mused. “How did it form? Where is it headed? Why does no one else seem to sense it?”

Gloria’s every question seemed to resonate with the doubts that lingered in everyone’s hearts.

As everyone began to ponder over the matter, a sudden burst of brilliance lit up the distant horizon! It was as if the entire Sky Mechanical City was enveloped by this radiant light. Such was the intensity of its glow that it even illuminated the area where they stood.

Out of an instinctive fear of potential danger, Gloria swiftly shut her eyes and conjured a protective spell.

However, the light didn’t persist for long. In a short span of time, its luminescence vanished into thin air.

With a moment’s hesitation, Gloria opened her eyes to gaze towards the distant Sky Mechanical City.

The bright radiance was no longer present. The massive void in the sky seemed to be gradually healing itself, and it appeared as though the genuine light of day was making its return.

Yet, Sky Mechanical City appeared largely unchanged. The only discernible difference was the mysterious disappearance of the light.

“What just happened when that intense light shone?” Gloria, having closed her eyes at the time, was unsure of the event and inquired with those around her.

However, both Sanders and Horus shook their heads. Even though they had been keeping a close watch on the horizon, the distance was too great, and the intense light obscured their vision. Even using specialized spells, they couldn’t clearly discern what had transpired. Moreover, with the foreboding sense of danger earlier having been so potent, they dared not extend their mental awareness into the darkness-enshrouded area. If they had, they might’ve gotten a clearer understanding.

Gloria sighed deeply, realizing that they’d have to wait for the dust to settle on this incident before they could delve deeper and seek answers.

Just as disappointment clouded Gloria’s face, Angel suddenly remarked, “I saw it.”

His proclamation immediately captured everyone’s attention.

Considering that even the two wizards with true knowledge hadn’t seen anything, how could Angel have? Could it be that he audaciously projected his mental power into the shadowed domain?

When the crowd looked at Angel with both surprise and doubt, Angel silently said, “When I opened the gateway, I left a scouting puppet in the city.”

Gloria had an epiphany and remarked, “So that’s what it was.”

Utilizing alchemical tools to extend one’s vision, under most circumstances, surely isn’t as effective as spell manipulation or mental probing. However, in this situation, the scouting puppet was the best choice.

“What exactly did you see in that light? How did it suddenly disappear?” Gloria inquired.

Just as the words left Gloria’s lips, the indifferent voice of Horus chimed in, “How’s the situation at the Savage Grottoes outpost? Are they… still alive?”

Angel responded to Horus first, “The light doesn’t seem to have a direct impact on life. Now, aside from some commotion, there are no other anomalies in Sky Mechanical City.”

Through the scouting puppet, Angel clearly saw that everyone was alive and showed no signs of injury.

Hearing this, Horus let out a sigh of relief. After all, being the one in charge of the Savage Grottoes’ base, his primary concern naturally lies with his subordinates.

Angel paused momentarily, then addressed Gloria’s question, “As for that light, I couldn’t discern what it specifically was. However, I saw it heading toward the central area.”

Which means the light disappeared in the central area.

Gloria thought to herself: Their previous guess that the light might not land in Sky Mechanical City was incorrect. It did touch down, but it didn’t cause any significant harm.

But what in the central area could possibly attract that light?

As the crowd was lost in thought, Azaz, who had been overlooked by everyone, timidly raised his hand:

“That Light Piercing Through the Void… seemed to be an arrow.”
