Chapter 945 A Change of Attitude

Chapter 944 Flight Trajectory <TOC> Chapter 946 Into the Abyss

When the fog of uncertainty finally cleared, the shimmering trajectories deep within Angel’s memory started to glisten.

Angel hadn’t completely grasped the entirety of these trajectories. Rather, he retained just a fragment, a minuscule corner. But even this tiny corner was enough to enlighten him.

“Accumulation,” Angel whispered, identifying the concept that this little corner symbolized—a distinct part of a magic rune!

Was this, then, a magic formation? Angel queried.

A smile sprouted on Rhine Mute’s face, “Indeed. As an enchanter and an alchemist, the Path of Magic Siphon outside could not obstruct you.”

“Path of Magic Siphon? Is that the name of the magic formation?” Angel was clueless. He rifled through his memories and found no reference to this so-called ‘Path of Magic Siphon’ in any of the books about magic formations he had read. Clearly, this wasn’t a formation that could be utilized in enchantments.

“Correct, that’s the name of the magic formation. The Mirror World possesses a high concentration of primal magic power, with the Path of Magic Siphon playing a key role. It draws a massive amount of primal magic from the outside world and channels it through a spirit in the magic formation to various locations within the Mirror World,” Rhine Mute responded, “The white dove you saw earlier is the spirit within the formation.”

A spirit in the magic formation—Angel was familiar with this terminology. Although he hadn’t dabbled much in formations beyond enchantments, he knew that every skilled runemaster would have their own unique way of operating their magic formations, and spirits were part of this.

However, the use of spirits in runic systems is an ancient practice and is no longer the mainstream. With the progression of eras, the majority of current magic formations are operated by magic puppets.

“I see,” Angel’s eyes brightened with realization. When he first arrived at the High Cloud Tower, he noticed a significant increase in the surrounding magic concentration, presumably because this was the core of the magic formation—the home of the spirit.

With a casual wave of his hand, Rhine Mute opened the window behind him. A white dove, flapping its wings, fluttered in and perched on Rhine Mute’s hand.

Just as Angel was about to express his confusion, Rhine Mute extended his hand, offering the white dove to Angel.

With a gentle smile, Rhine Mute said, “I’ll gift this spirit to you.”

“For me?” Angel was taken aback. He found himself at a loss for words, unable to decide whether to accept the gift graciously or politely decline due to the unease he felt.

“Oh? You don’t want it?” Rhine raised an eyebrow, upon seeing Angel’s struggle, he succinctly elucidated, “Almost every official wizard of the Savage Grottoes possesses a spirit from the Path of Magic Siphon. The locale of the spirit is akin to the outward reach of the magic formation.”

In other words, wherever the spirit soars, the concentration of primal magic power would naturally escalate there.

Sanders’ Phantom Island has a higher concentration of primal magic power than other places, a phenomenon accredited to the presence of the spirit.

With Rhine’s exposition, Angel was quick to grasp the implications. It was evidently a skewing of resources in his favor, which led him to ponder… Was he being prematurely ushered into the core echelon of the Savage Grottoes?

Nonetheless, Rhine never explicitly stated this, and Angel dared not confirm it.

Regardless, accepting this spirit would undeniably be a wise choice.

Angel nodded, expressing his gratitude, “I am thankful for your gracious gift, Lord Rhine.”

Seeing the comprehension in Angel’s eyes, Rhine acknowledged him with a knowing smile and a slight flick of his hand, causing the dove to flutter over to Angel.

The dove circled around Angel, seemingly memorizing his aura. After a while, it nodded lightly at Angel and then flew out of the room.

When Rhine said he was gifting the spirit to him, he did not actually mean “gift” in the conventional sense. Rather, he made the spirit remember Angel’s aura, while the spirit continued to dwell in the High Cloud Tower. Should Angel acquire his own territory in the future, the spirit would move the node of the Path of Magic Siphon to Angel’s territory, increasing the concentration of primal magic power there.

After accepting the spirit, Angel distinctly felt that his conversation with Rhine was less inhibited, and in the following dialogue, Rhine subtly disclosed some secrets of the Savage Grottoes.

For example, Angel knew that the Savage Grottoes possessed a high-level Wizard Garden but he had no idea what it was. Now, Rhine had unveiled the secret for him—it was the Soul Garden.

Moreover, Angel discovered a secret; Baroque, who had once tried to frame him at Sky Tower and nearly replaced him with Parasite Mother, also came to the Savage Grottoes for the Soul Garden. However, up to now, he had no opportunity to enter it.

Rhine candidly shared these intricacies of the power dynamics with him, which validated Angel’s previous conjecture. He was indeed inducted prematurely into the core by Rhine.

Could it be because of his mastery of alchemy?

Although Rhine had divulged some confidential matters, he had refrained from discussing the distribution of power among the formal wizards within the organization with Angel. It wasn’t that he was unwilling to share, but rather that Angel’s current ability was inadequate, and Rhine had no intention of immersing Angel in these intricacies.

At present, the main focus remained fostering Angel’s growth. Discussing other troublesome matters in abundance might just serve as a hindrance.

Moreover, Angel was an alchemist.

Rhine estimated that even the most opposing wizard factions within the Savage Grottoes would refrain from employing drastic measures against Angel.

Having relayed nearly everything that needed to be communicated, Rhine turned to Angel, “Before your mentor departed, we had a casual conversation about you.”

Upon hearing Sanders’ name, Angel immediately pricked up his ears.

“He mentioned that you seemed to be working on a research project related to ghosts and souls. How’s your study progressing? If you’ve made any discoveries, consider submitting them to —Mirror—.”

—Mirror— was the official magazine of the Savage Grottoes, targeted towards its formal wizards. Rhine didn’t believe Angel could produce some revolutionary research, but if Angel genuinely submitted something, Rhine wouldn’t mind reviewing it for him and publishing it in —Mirror—.

This was, in fact, a subtle way of signaling to the other wizards in the Savage Grottoes that Angel had now been accepted into the core circle.

Hearing Rhine’s words, Angel immediately recognized the research topic he was referring to: The Irreversible Theory of Ghosts and Souls.

In fact, Sanders had suggested to him before that if he didn’t mind, he could publish this topic, which had the potential to overturn the established theories of the wizarding world, in —Mirror—. However, Angel, who was eager to return home at the time and had not yet conducted a complete experiment on the Prelude of Reincarnation, gave a noncommittal response.

Now that Rhine had brought up this point, Angel began to seriously consider it.

His luck had been good during this journey; he had replenished the white light bullets of the Prelude of Reincarnation in the Sea of Ghosts and successfully completed an experimental procedure, transforming Tulas from a ghost back into a soul.

Subsequent observations showed that Tulas did not revert to being a ghost. This proved that the irreversible theory of ghosts and souls was, in fact, flawed.

This research topic can be deemed a success, and Angel doesn’t mind disseminating the research findings. However, if he were to officially publish it… the example used in the experiment couldn’t be Tulas.

This is because the moment Tulas’ name gets written, should anyone follow this clue and investigate closely, discovering that Angel had once visited that dark space on Silver Palm Island, he would find himself in a predicament that even rational explanations couldn’t absolve him of.

Musing on this, Angel spoke to Rhine, “Lord, I have indeed been researching this topic, but it isn’t fully refined yet, it needs more comprehensive experiments. If I were to publish it, it might take a bit more time.”

Rhine chuckled, “No worries, research itself is a long-term process, there’s no rush considering the vast sea of time ahead of us. And remember, any topic you wish to publish in the future can be featured in —Mirror—.”

Being one of the reviewers for —Mirror—, Rhine didn’t mind lending a helping hand to Angel.

Subsequently, Rhine engaged in some alchemical discussion with Angel, and brought up the Rhythm of the Ocean, praising it highly. Angel initially worried that Rhine would want to test the effects of the Rhythm of the Ocean personally, but thankfully, Rhine merely suggested that Angel, when he found the time, could hold a class at Tree Spirit Court. There, he could charge other apprentices for the experience of the Rhythm of the Ocean, to increase their affinity with water magic.

Rhine merely suggested this, he did not mandate it, nor did he attempt to test the Rhythm of the Ocean himself.

This relieved Angel, and he readily agreed to Rhine’s proposition.

Rhine remarked, “As I mentioned before, our conversation is just casual banter, yet it seems I have been doing all the talking. Do you have no questions of your own?”

Angel hastily nodded. Facing one of the most powerful wizards in the Southern Region, he had been somewhat on tenterhooks. He had not dared to interrupt or speak up, only providing passive responses, which was somewhat regrettable. Yet when Rhine offered him the opportunity to speak, how could he not seize it with both hands?

“Today happens to be a free day for me, so feel free to ask me anything you wish.” Rhine smiled gently, “If you’ve set your sights on someone, I could also lend a hand by putting in a good word for you.”

Angel: “…” Rhine Mute is fond of playing matchmaker, and Angel is no stranger to this penchant. During Gloria’s spell crafting period, Rhine Mute was present. Not only did he persuade Sanders to be with a woman named Samantha, but he also suggested that Gloria might be a consideration… As a result, Angel has experienced firsthand how fervently Rhine Mute participates in this endeavor. However, Angel did not expect that one day this hobby would be imposed on him.

“At present, there is no one I am interested in. My main focus is still on cultivation.” Angel swiftly shifted the conversation after his comment. “Lord, I would like to know if you have any means of contacting my mentor. There are matters I need to discuss with him.”

“Contacting Sanders?” Rhine Mute mused for a moment. “He’s currently at the Abyss Frontline; it’s not easy to reach him. Do you have urgent business?”

“It’s about the Nightmare Soul and Nightmare Domain.”

He initially intended to say that if the issue was simple, he could substitute for Sanders in providing answers for Angel. But if it’s about the Nightmare Soul and Nightmare Domain, he truly was out of his depth; this was a secret spell unique to the Phantom Master lineage.

After pondering, Rhine Mute proposed: “If you are genuinely trying to reach Sanders, perhaps you could do this…”
