At the onset, the divine attendant aided Gauss in defining a parameter.

The person whom Piers held secretively close to his chest was, quite possibly… an alchemist!

And now, isn’t Angel, in fact, an alchemist!

Moreover, Piers specifically sought out Angel, could he be the very person that Piers has been meticulously concealing? Velite’s mind was spinning with these thoughts, yet his visage betrayed no hint of turmoil, rather, he scrutinized Angel and Piers with a gaze filled with curiosity.

He yearned to uncover the reason why Piers had sought out Angel.

Piers too was in a state of internal disarray, adorned with question marks, he hadn’t anticipated encountering Velite while seeking Angel?! He was also clueless about the intentions of Velite being here. Could it be, has Velite discovered that Angel might indeed be the person marked by Cassini?

Piers, at this moment, harbored his own doubts, thus he decided to discreetly probe, “Quite unexpected to find you here, Velite. Do you also know Angel?”

Velite responded with a cryptic smile, opting not to answer. An answer would only clear up Piers’ line of thought. It was better to leave some ambiguity and let Piers stew in his speculations.

However, what Velite hadn’t anticipated was, despite his silence, Madeline standing beside him, spilled the beans.

“Lord Velite came here intending to inquire about the matters of Eternal Night Kingdom from Angel. However, Angel has already refused,” Madeline announced.

Madeline’s words instantly shed some light on Piers’ suspicions. It seemed, Velite was probably still oblivious to the connection between Angel and Cassini. With this realization, Piers knew how to respond.

Piers wore an expression of regret on his face, “Ah, the purpose of my visit was also to trade some information about Eternal Night Kingdom with you, Angel. Seeing as you have already declined Velite, it appears I won’t be receiving any news either…”

Angel looked puzzled, and asked, “Captain Piers, when Rosam mentioned earlier that you wanted to trade information with me, was this what he was referring to?”

Piers nodded, “Correct.”

Angel displayed an apologetic countenance, “My deepest apologies, but for matters concerning Eternal Night Kingdom, I suggest you consult my mentor. He had explicitly commanded me not to share information, given my power level is relatively low. What I perceived in Sleepless City might not be the reality.”

“Fair enough,” Piers responded with a jovial chuckle.

His visit to Angel indeed entailed intentions to negotiate about information on Eternal Night Kingdom. However, this was just a part of his objectives, and he wouldn’t fuss much if the exchange didn’t come through. His primary focus was to ascertain why Angel was familiar with the name Cassini.

Compared to Velite’s aggressive demeanor, Piers’ amicable approach was much more pleasant for Angel.

However, at this moment, Velite shot Piers a suspicious look, “Your visit to Angel surely has more reasons behind it, right? Perhaps other matters?” For instance, Cassini?

The balance in Velite’s heart had already shifted. After all, this matter concerned Piers, and he was an alchemist. Angel was an ideal choice.

Piers shot Velite a glance, knowing that he must have started harbouring suspicions.

Nevertheless, Piers didn’t care much. Even if Velite were to discover the connection between Angel and Cassini, it wouldn’t cause him much trouble. More so, Velite was merely suspicious at this point.

However, Piers was well aware.

If he revealed that Angel had been prying into the matter regarding Cassini, it might bring some unnecessary complications for Angel. His visit aimed mainly at strengthening his relationship with Angel. Even if Angel wasn’t the so-called “Seed of Truth,” his identity as an alchemist alone was enough for him to go out of his way to win favor.

Therefore, naturally, Piers wouldn’t allow Angel to get embroiled in a problematic whirlpool because of him.

Hence, faced with Velite’s subtly probing question, Piers shrugged, “Indeed, I originally had some information to share with Angel. However, since you are already here, it seems unnecessary to bring it up.”

Naturally, Velite assumed Piers was referring to the matter about Cassini. A wave of delight washed over him, “It seems Piers has admitted that Angel is indeed the ‘Seed of Truth’?”

“Ah, Angel, it seems that you have already been in contact with Velite; the information I brought earlier may not be of much assistance to you,” Piers remarked the very next instant.

Angel, confused, questioned, “Captain Piers, I’m not sure I understand your point.”

Piers feigned surprise, “You mean to tell me you don’t know? The magic rune scroll that increases luck attributes I mentioned is Velite’s.”

Velite, “???” Piers’ prior implications were not about Angel’s connection with Cassini, but rather that Angel was the customer interested in purchasing the rune scroll?

As Velite was stunned, Angel turned with a certain degree of surprise towards Velite, “Lord Velite, it seems the seller of the rune scroll Captain Piers spoke of was you.”

Piers confirmed with a sly grin, “Exactly, it’s him. He’s offering a price of one drop of Fragment of Constant. The question now is, Angel, are you willing to exchange with him?”

“One drop of Fragment of Constant for a rune scroll that increases luck attributes?” Madeline, who had been silent on the side, couldn’t help but spit out when she heard Piers’ words, “Lord Velite, your asking price is a bit audacious, isn’t it?”

Velite managed an awkward smile. His gaze upon Angel was inquisitive and also puzzled.

Could it be that he was wrong? Piers’ visit to Angel actually had nothing to do with Cassini?

After pondering, Velite asked, “Angel, can you… craft an item that can block prophecy spells?”

Angel replied, “As I’ve said before, I have no current plans for alchemy.”

Velite probed further, “You mean, you are capable of crafting an item that blocks prophecy spells?”

Angel didn’t know what Velite wanted to ask. But he knew that items like the Blood Night Sanctuary were exceedingly rare among the Southern Wizarding World, so he vaguely replied, “I’ve studied related magic formations. As for success, I would need to give it a try.”

Upon hearing the end, Velite looked deeply at Angel, “If you truly manage to craft an item that can shield against prophecy spells, you can find me. I would be willing to trade it for a scroll imbued with a rune of luck enhancement.”

“Items that can shield against prophecy spells are exceedingly rare in the Southern Region… They are worth significantly more than a mere tattered scroll of yours,” interjected Madeline.

Yet, Velite remained unperturbed, “The scroll that alters variable thresholds has long been lost to time. Although its effects last merely two or three seconds, sometimes, that’s all it takes to turn the tide. To measure the value of such an item is unwise.”

Having said that, Velite gave Angel a slight nod, “As long as I have not used this scroll, my words will hold true.”

With that, Velite turned and headed in the opposite direction. He could see that Angel was wary of him and Madeline was on guard as well. Since they would be journeying together to the Abyss, some mysteries can remain unsolved for the time being; there was no need for haste.

Velite departed, but did he believe Piers? Not necessarily.

Whether Angel was linked to Cassini was not difficult to ascertain. Back in the day, even Gauss had failed under the scrutiny of a prophecy spell. A simple test would be to contact Gauss, have him test Angel, and see if Angel could shield against the prophecy spell.

Velite had left, but at this moment, Piers moved his lips slightly, and a “Whale Language Spell” entered Angel’s mind.

Whale Language Spell, a form of encrypted sound channel created by Piers, was merely a variant of Sound Wave Spell. Although it was similar to a Message Spell, it was far more clandestine and required decryption to be heard.

The medium for decryption was the grey card from the Ashen Time Merchant Group. Different grey cards corresponded to different decryption methods. This unique personalization was one of the reasons why most clients of Ashen Time were satisfied.

Angel took out his grey card, and quickly deciphered Piers’ message.

“I have another piece of news for you, but this isn’t the place for discussions.”

While the Whale Language Spell was reasonably secure, there were too many wizards here, and Piers could feel the strong oppressive force emanating from the magical cottage at the top of the iceberg. He surmised that a formidable being must be nearby, thus conversing here could raise suspicion.

Upon mulling it over, Angel articulated to Madeline, “My Lady, I seek to converse with Piers on some matters. I assure you, I’ll return forthwith.”

Madeline cast a glance toward the Frost Moon Guard in the distance, busy attending to the repairs of the Wings of Cold Frost, and estimated the duration of their task. With a nod to Angel, she expressed, “Go ahead.”

Thus, guided by Piers, Angel soared into the open sky.

On the other side, Velite watched Piers lead Angel away, a hunch creeping into his mind, but he managed to suppress it swiftly. After contacting Gauss later, everything would become clear…

Following Angel’s departure, Madeline noted a subtle shift in the ambiance atop the icy mountain.

Beforehand, as she stood beside Angel, they attracted little attention. However, the arrival of Piers, accompanied by Velite’s advance, drew the eyes of several wizards their way.

While Piers was conversing with Angel, they hadn’t consciously used any spell to disguise their exchange. This inadvertently allowed others to uncover a particular matter—

“Miss Madeline, it has been quite some time… ah, the misfortunes that have befallen the Silian family have indeed saddened me… To my surprise, I didn’t expect you to join the Savage Grottoes,” the visitor paused momentarily before adding, “By the way, the apprentice who was with you earlier, could he possibly be ‘Lion Hearted Thorn’ Angel?”

Before Madeline could even deal with this wizard, who she seemed to have crossed paths with before but never exchanged words, another individual approached.

“Oh my goodness! My dear Madeline, it is truly beyond belief!” The newcomer spoke in an overly dramatic tone, “I never anticipated that Lord Rhine would actually dispatch Angel to the abyss; it is utterly inconceivable. To treat such a talent in this way, it would have been better to let Angel join our Torch Institute.”

What would he do at the Torch Institute? Learn drama, perhaps?
